Episode one in a new series looking for traces of Prescot's medieval past. In this one I explore the open field system. A way of farming that sustained the town for over 800 years. I start my quest at Chirche le Fielde (Churchley Field).
Presented and edited for Born & Raised in Prescot by Philip Battle.
Camerawork by Catherine McMahon.

Great video. I was born in Prescot in 1960. Both my mum and dad were born in Prescot into real poverty. Keep the videos coming … really enjoyable viewing.

Phil - another well researched and presented vlog. Loved this one - all the information about the area in which I grew up - in Chirche le Fielde. Look forward to the next one. 🤗

My "Scouse twang" is due to me spending over 40 years living and working in Liverpool. Far too long in my opinion! 😀😎👍🏻

Hi Phil i did`nt mean to offend you my comment was just about the changes which have taken place over the years,we moved to Huyton because of the bombings in 1946 and when we got the tram to Prescot and spoke to lads from Prescot it was like we were speaking 2 different languages,i have a lot of nice memories of Prescot and watch all your videos mopstly i am interested in the History of the ancient times which you have done recently, i learned many years ago that watches were made in Prescot before Switzerland and original Prescot Watches are very valuable perhaps you cpuld do a video on that . i visit Liverpool most years and want to get to Prescot to visit the new Shakespeare Theatre at some time,so thanks again Phil.@@Prescotian

Another very interesting video. I usually learn something or two new bits of info watching your videos! This is just a guess of mine, but I think there may have been at least a settle there going back into the mists of time. The way that the road runs in a circular/ovoid fashion around the church grounds suggests something much older may have been there before the first church? Perhaps there was a menhir or circle or something, lost when the church moved onto the site?

Yes you are RIGHT Tony - I'm currently working on a vid looking into the possibilities of late Stone Age. Keep watching and thanks for your comment. 😀👌

@@Prescotian Great. I'll look forward to that. I discussed my thoughts (a good few years back) and I was told that there was a woman, who wrote the church magazine who had done a little research into that idea. They may have some record of her work, and if she found anything?

@@tonysebo9010 Thanks Tony, I'll contact the church to see if anybody has any info on that, perhaps an article in the parish magazine, that could be interesting. 👍
