Deaths I don't mind so much. In fact, one might say they are even preferable since they actually provide a sense of fun. Dead-man walking situations, that's a different story. One is a failure state, the other is a failure state that doesn't tell you you failed. Fortunately for the most part in the Space Quest series, it's because you didn't pick something up.
