0:07 kinda funny how the old man had absolutely NO IDEA who he just let into his studio. Imagine being the guy who let the future Beatles record their very first single.
Well the bastard cop that killed johns mom knew whose mom he killed and when he got a job delivering letter , Paul’s old house was on his route Dude can’t catch a break But he deserved it
well half of them anyhow. know ringo wasn`t there dont think george was either. not that that really matters. waited i think it was ten years to hear this song, from when i heard it even existed till it came out on the first anthology album .
He sold them one copy of the disc then taped over the original tape recording! How much would that tape be worth today? david altman - George co-wrote it, played guitar and did the backing vocals on it
Does anyone else think this this whole movie is powerful/sad, as we see what John Lennon had to put up with throughout his teenage years, he had quite a hard life if you think about it.
It's pretty cool that they kept it authentic with the vocal harmonies. John - lower lead vocals, Paul - higher background and George- middle background actually :)
This film never got enough credit, it's one of my personal favourites of all time, and I've had this song on repeat in my head all week it's just incredible! Hats off to the actors aswell they play the roles brilliantly!
I truly love the the person they picked to play Paul McCartney, (Thomas Sangster). Even though he doesn't look exactly like him, he acts the part very well. Even when he sings/play he makes the same faces/motions exactly like the real Paul McCartney. He is just a brilliant actor, and this was a great movie I might add! :D
Ha Base only on the look of the actors who were in this movie, a lot of people will assume that this is a very bad Beatles tribute film, or maybe a "Yesterday"-scripted movie 10 years before the real "Yesterday" came out
organboi The scene in the movie implies that they are singing the song while he is grieving after the sudden death of his Mother, she was involved in a hit and run accident and killed instantly, The clips of him dancing are memories of happy time with his Mother.
It wasn't a tear jerker for me per se, but it holds great meaning to me. It's putting everything that's going wrong in their lives behind them to do something that they didn't understand was incredibly historic. It was the monumental scene for me.
Madshepherd They recorded on the 12th of July. Julia was in the accident on the 15th. It bothered me how they messed up events in this movie. Also, George should be present for the recording, but was not in the movie. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie I enjoyed, but some of the history is off/bothersome. John was really mad about how the drums sounded on That'll be the day.
Everyone always had trouble getting George right. In yellow Submarine they said it themselves that they couldn't find a voice that suited George properly
I really was crying in this scene, the pain of lost a mother must be the most terrible thing, poor John and Paul, one more reason why their friendship went far away until now, The Beatles for ever!!
This version sounds nice because modern equipment was in the movie. The Quarry men recorded this song in a house and a cheap disc was cut. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q2LcLrI6HUI.html
Cynthia should've been in this film, she played a big part in John's life during this time in his life. She was there for him when his mum died, she comforted him and really cushioned his blows. I hate that she's forgotten in the history of John Lennon. "We used to take the mickey out of her, but John always said he fancied her. He called her Miss Prim. He was certainly always attracted to her from the first time he saw her in the canteen."- Thelma pickles "I hate the word, but posh best describes John's first impressions of Cynthia. He was clearly attracted to her but hid that behind a regular barrage of bad jokes about her. She was the most important person to him for a long time but John did not want to look weak to his peers, to be soppy over a girl." -Pauline Sutcliffe "One day, not long after we had first met Cyn, I was at Mendips with John and he told me that Cyn was coming from town on the bus. I was twelve then and I was looking forward to seeing her again, wondering what arty, studenty clothes she would be wearing. Mendips is right on the main road, which meant that you could see the bus stop if you looked through the upstairs windows, which is why John ran up and down the stairs to his bedroom whenever he thought he heard a bus engine. You could hear whether or not the bus stopped to let passengers on or off. When the bus did indeed deposit Cynthia on the pavement, John shouted ‘Yes!’ and then flung himself downstairs to watch for her coming through the gate. Then he sauntered through the kitchen, as if he didn’t even know she was coming and he was bumping into her in his own garden by sheer good luck! I couldn’t believe his cool. I loved it! Cynthia was dressed in black from head to toe, just like John. A couple of art students, in love and looking like art students…in love. It was tangible." -Julia Baird (John's sister)
Loved your take on Cynthia. For a time, she was a stabilizing force in John's life. The thing about John Lennon is that, after a childhood of pain where his father abandoned him and his mother was more a fun, "free-spirit" than mother; it left him harboring a deep insecurity. And from that childhood of insecurity he began to act "The Tough". E.g., "No one can touch me - No one can hurt me." It was all an act - and an exhausting one at that. I believe he really did love Cynthia, but she couldn't fill the void in his shadow self left by his dysfunctional mother and father, and so, he "acted out". Fortuitously - and tragically - music/show-biz is perfect for people who live to "act out" and for years he stepped fully into his Role as Beatle John. Decades later it looked as if he'd finally figured-it-out, but at that moment, he was taken. RIP John Lennon.
I think your comment is off the charts great! Thank you for sharing that. Your interest in the subject and insight blew me away. I have been a Beatles SUPERFAN since 1995 and have read everything I could on them and seen everything I could. I say “could” because that “ability” caveat limited the overall amount, but not much. Anyway, it NEVER occurred to me that Cynthia was not included here. That is a staggering omission, on the part of the Producers/Director(s). etc. Once again, thank you for including those quotes, to illustrate your point and also add context to your sentiments. I would love to know sources for those and ANY other comments/interviews by people associated with the Beatles from that time period, including the ones cited in your comment. Peace
What I find odd is that they gave him a small love interest in this movie who I don't think even actually existed. If they wanted to give John a love interest to any degree why not add Cynthia?
I was young enough when this movie came out and i come to meet it after 10 years with 22 years old. Then it gives me nostalgia even if i haven't see the movie before. I have always love The Beatles,i mean from my childhood.
So I hate to be the sappy guy here. But my grandmother who died in October of 2022 was the reason I got into the Beatles, and her and I used to sing this song together. I miss you so much Grandma, I hope you’re still singing with me in heaven!
+Charlli Bardwell Not a hater or a troll, but I really CAN'T see how anyone would think he's hot. Maybe it's a culture thing, and what you find good looking might not be the same as I do (I'm Indian), but I know people here that look pretty much the same as he does, and are considered plain faced and aren't given much attention. I'm also babyfaced myself and not the most eyefucked guy in any given room. Then again, it can't be a culture thing, because there's Aaron right next to Thomas, and he makes me feel a little unsure about what I'm really into. Jk, but the guy looks a billon bucks. I just don't get how people perceive Thomas to be so hot when he's not more than average looking at best.
If you listen to the original recording by the quarry men, this cover is actually pretty accurate. It basically just sounds a remastered version. They sound exactly the same. I love it. It's just like listening to John, George and Paul but in HQ.
One of the best scenes in the whole movie. The emotion is so intense, evident by just Aaron's expressions. Fantastic actor, fantastic movie, fantastic song.
@@x.xiahtic if this person doesn’t reply to you, I will. Think Sangster is a reasonable fit, due to him being able to play the guitar. But he doesn’t really look like Paul. So I partly agree with you
Aaron Johnson did an amazing job portraying John Lennon and this final scene really tears me up because of all the pain on his face and what he's gone through/
I haven't seen this movie, but I have to say this is some very good work by the actors. It's quite a moving scene for me; I lost my mother, who I loved dearly, around the same age as they did. She had great taste in music and loved The Beatles above all. It was The Beatles who, in the wake of my mother's loss, inspired me to take up guitar and bass. I was completely shattered, but as the sounds coming out of that first rinky-dink practice amp began to sound like music, I gradually started coming back to life. So I can relate a bit to John and Paul in that regard, and will always be grateful to them for their awesome music, which helped light the way out of the darkest place I've been.
In the end he became one of the most profound artist of all time. Shows how shit life can be and you can turn it into something amazing. Very inspirational, Great movie.
Who else gets emotional watching this when they see John on the verge of crying there? That's how you know it's a truly great song. I can't think of a single song made within the last 11 years that has the same effect.
I know, but it's the same thing.. because it's about struggled for the dreams. I love The Beatles because it's formed by the struggled and sacrifice which began from the quarrymen
[Pre-Chorus] In spite of all the danger In spite of all that may be I'll do anything for you Anything you want me to If you'll be true to me [Chorus] In spite of all the heartache That you may cause me I'll do anything for you Anything you want me to If you'll be true to me [Verse 1] I'll look after you Like I've never done before I'll keep all the others From knocking at your door [Pre-Chorus] [Chorus] [Verse 2] I'll do anything for you Anything you want me to If you'll be true to me
Paul, too for that matter; Elvis was The King for the young dudes of the time. Without Elvis, there would certainly've been no Beatles- or Stones, or Who, or...well, let's just be thankful there was Elvis.
Hell of a movie, amazing performances, Mr. Johnson was spectacular portraying the young troubled and confused John Lennon. I enjoyed this movie immensely. This kid can act!!!!
Omg what a film! saw this last night but missed the first hour I watched what I could of it on tv and this song is stuck in my head what a song! This is so good surprised no one has tried to re release it lately it's so catchy and I love the harmonising. It's really beautiful.:-) I kept thinking over and over of my mum though who passed away and all I kept thinking of was hours spent listening to the beatles and being told oh but you need to know before that was the quarrymen! She bought me a guitar cherry red acoustic for my birthday she took me to choose one and said no you need that one. I have never changed the guitar to this day and I love it. I can play lightly but, this above is so many geniuses in one space oh to be that gifted would be amazing. i write I sing yet, I do not have the courage to put my songs on here.My mother's wish was for me to release them and sing but, sadly I am just too shy when it comes to public.
It's really not THAT great of a song. At the time, it was little more than a ripoff of "Trying To Get To You" by Roy Orbison (also recorded by Elvis). Paul McCartney even admitted as much long before the Quarrymen version came out (he didn't name the song at the time).
Dude you know all these years i'm a potterhead and only recently i was somehow stuck with The Beatles so i just found this movie, and now i know where they get all the James Potter pics to make aesthetics in us potter fandom. sigh.
I'm impressed that Aaron Johnson is able to capture that true Lennon tone with his singing. (Interesting side note: He looks quite a bit like the old Beatles drummer, Pete Best.) The boy playing George has a nice voice too, from what I can hear.
Every day I get home from school, grab my guitar and jam with these guys till my fingers hurt :) you should hear it, I sound AMAZING with them lol :) I could have been the 5th beatle, well Im a girl so Idk how that would work, oh yea, I could just have married John, no big deal and also have been born like a decade or so ago, despite all those things it would work! :)
One of the greatest emotions and happiest moments of my life was listening to Paul singing it and tons of people and I singing along to him this song at his concert last year.
This Beatles song is so beautiful and romantic, it makes you want to cry, it's so perfect and cool, The Beatles are a very talented and incredible band, they're amazing❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢
This scene says more than it lets on....the recording of this song occurs shortly after John's mother is killed by a drunken driver....following this horrific tragedy, John could have gone down the wrong path - booze, petty crime, etc...but he instead takes solace in his music. Wise move as it turns out.
The change of the guitar pattern here at 1:56 is very close to the riff of Nowhere Man, a song from Rubber soul. It's really beautiful, this movie just having a four-second of the essence of John's most self-defining song (at least in own mind) and naming the movie around it is just cherry on the cake.
Música fantástica. John, Paul e George. Os atores estão muito bem representados. Acho esse filme triste, comovente. A história de John foi realmente muito 😢 triste
I loved the movie, cried my eyes out! and when Julia was hit by the car, everyone gasped..deadsilence.. and then the music started again. AMAZING effect. Think this cover is done pretty well too! Though noone can top the original! never!
