This is a film that, when you see it for the first time, you think...okay, nice movie. And then for years it keeps haunting you with good vibes and makes you feel special every time you see a glimps of it, like this video.
Agreed. The first time I saw it, I fell asleep and I thought it was tedious and boring... but then I realized I remembered vividly the images, the sounds, the story... I always go back to it. It has something very powerful that I cannot explain...
@@mariosanchezgumiel7757 THANKYOU for saying this, because I felt THE SAME. I fell asleep too LOL. But now, I think I look back with more appreciation now because of how real and grounded the whole movie was. Like legit, I felt the heaviness, and a sense of loss, as these two people just never act on their feelings. There is this dynamic of a tug-of-war of wanting to root for them but you suck in a breath and hiss to yourself when you remember they're married, and this movie makes you feel it intensely and unforgivingly. And the way the film just shows this separation with such cinematography and beautiful shots is an understated miracle that a lot of people will not get until they appreciate this more. Like, this movie actually made me understand why people may cheat on their spouses, in a way.
Bcoz of the exceptional craft of visual, sound, cinematography, art and vibe, acting and so everything. It’s exquisite & classic. truly masterpiece of modern cinema (and what cinema is all about)
The costumes, the set design, the light placement, the sound track, the cinematography, the acting , the screenplay the direction EVERYTHING is so on-point in this movie. Chef’s kiss 🥹
@@watcher05er Not true. The budget for the film was $150,000 but its worldwide box office revenue was over $14 million. It can be considered both a critical and commercial success
@@watcher05er Honestly speaking, this is not set to be a blockbuster movie, this is pure art of cinema. Films like this are not made to gain money, sell merchandise, create numerous sequels and spin-offs, and make more and more revenue selling another idiotic franchise to teenagers that never grow up. This movie is what a cinema should be. The director's statement and piece of art, not a piece of commercial shit.
Bravo's to Mr. Wong Kar Wai ..! There are many hidden gem's (stories) lying just under the surface of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland China. They are awaiting the patient, honorable students of Cinema to resurrect them and shine the Glorious Light on them for the world to be enthralled...!!
This movie had the most profound effect on me when I watched it the first time and still does. The greatest movie ever made in my opinion. It is perfect.
This is an intimate conversation between the painful gentle cry of a violin and the grounded encouraging and unwavering voice of an ostinato which creates a safe and secure space for sad expression and keeps the conversation moving forward, as in a beautiful dance between pain and hopefulness.
Just watched this for the first time tonight. The scene at Angkor Wat was so beautiful to me it literally made me cry. I’ve never seen anything like this before.
i really appericated your words. but i want one more. ... i want you give the money to this channel. your money will be making the movies more perfectly. If you understand, do it now man.
One of the most painful things you can go through in life is meeting the right person at the wrong place and time. Then fall for them, but never really get to love them, or even fully express how you feel for them. On top of it all, you abruptly lose them and not even get the closure that you need. So you go through life not being over them, wondering all the what ifs, and unable to form new meaningful relationships. That is why what happened to Chow was so sad.
@@mehrdad2685I saw 2046 first, and I abhorred how much of an asshole Chow is to this young lover of his. But then when you see this, you understand. He never got over this woman, because he did not even get the chance to start anything much more end it.
@@mehrdad2685It is, yes. it is a sequel for this and another Wong Kar Wai movie. It features an older chow how is still not over Maggie Chueng's character
Ummm.. no. My fam emigrated from HK to the US in 1964. The tallest building was 12 stories. Shantytowns on the hills that get washed out every typhoon. Always the fear of the Communist Red Horde coming right across the border. Everyone can’t wait to get to the US or Australia. Great if a sailor on furlough; but, yuk if you can’t get out.
Look up the 1965-1967 Hong Kong riots, it was a wild, violent period. There was a real danger of it turning into a Maoist state. Most of the population were dirt poor. Even these relatively well off, nicely dressed middle-class people are forced to live in subdivided apartments. Things started improving rapidly in the 1970s, and perhaps the 1980s and 1990s were the best times to be in HK. In the early 2000s it was starting to fizzle out.
I've made video essay about "In The Mood For Love" in similar style for one of my academic courses! Your is much better of course! Love your channel, let's spread love for Wong Kar-wai works. 🥰
Oh cool, do you do some sort of film academy? By the way this was actually an old video, I've just re-edited it with the 4K remastered version of the movie from criterion. Ps: People already complaining of the amount of WKW publications here 😂😅
@@Clarencito Yes, I'm a student of Film studies. I'm especially into East Asian cinema and now I'm working on my BA thesis about latest Korean cinema, so now I have to focus on that and try to catch up with new films of other Asian countries, but it's good to see that classics like Wong Kar-wai are still admired and I love returns to his films and look at video essays, analyzes etc. Anyway, keep it up and good luck!
I find it incredible for i finally saw it after loving Mulholland Drive so much and wondering what is this other movie they utter when paying respect to the best thus far of the 21st century. Watched, didnt think i was invested but liking it until their departure, last meeting and the waterworks came. Mesmerized hook, line and sinker.
One of the most amazing artistic movie I've ever seen. It never leave my mind after so many years..................... Every scenes and the music in this movie is like a master piece. Love it always!!!
i really appericated your words. but i want one more. ... i want you give the money to this channel. your money will be making the movies more perfectly. If you understand, do it now man.
This movie brings Antonio’s non communication technique to its zenith. Every scene/ action reveals complexity and lasting impression. Music is just deadly sexual!

Two broken marriages, 4 broken souls in rains. Can they heal each others? No, no one can heal others, other than its, itself. Love is beautiful as long as it is still incomplete. Life is still beautiful as long as we, lonely souls, still trying to complete ourselves.
Are you planning to do a video for the "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring" by Kim Ki-Duk? I saw you already have a video with a Kim Ki-Duk's movie.
