"A thinking person's horror picture that dares to be as cerebral as it is visceral." - Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times
Sutter Cane (Jürgen Prochnow, Dune, The Seventh Sign) is the best-selling author whose newest novel is literally driving readers insane. When he inexplicably vanishes, his publisher (Charlton Heston, Soylent Green, Planet Of The Apes) sends special investigator John Trent (Sam Neill, Daybreakers, Dead Calm) to track him down. Drawn to a town that exists only in Cane's books, Trent crosses the barrier between fact and fiction and enters a terrifying world from which there is no escape.
Inspired by the tales of H.P. Lovecraft, this shocking story is, in the words of its acclaimed director, "horror beyond description!"

FUN FACT = Spanish cable provider Movistar decided to create a horror movie-themed channel for this month of October. They showed Jacob's ladder and In the mouth of madness back to back! For me, Jacob's ladder gets ruined by the ending because the screenwriter is too much into Tibetan crap (it could've been a fantastic movie about PTSD and paranoia!) AND In the mouth of madness could've been better IF it had played in chronological order (no need to know he ends up in an asylum from the start!)

Annihilation is honestly my favorite cosmic horror film ever. True cosmic horror is when normal people encounter something that shatters their perception of reality and makes you realize how we are momentary specks in a vast indifferent universe. Annihilation delivers exactly that.

What a masterpiece! How is it that I haven't heard of this movie until now? I'm a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft and this movie finally did him justice. Event Horizon, FTW! It's really too bad that the studio interfered so much and then sent the originals to a not so secure salt mine where they deteriorated so much that we'll never see the rest of the stuff that wasn't able to make it into the film. I'd like to see today's budget and technology used to recreate/update it - still with mostly practical effects.

Did I ever tell you my favorite color was blue ? Wakes up from his dream and the world was all blue. I used to wake up in my dream and everything was all grey. So I get up, turn on the light expecting color to return. Flip it a few times. Room and the world remained grey. A greyscale world is not normal. Got panicky. I was awake but trapped in a dream yet still asleep. When you wake up inside your dream there is some latency like the Matrix. To answer your question yes I forced myself back to sleep in my dream. Shakespeare said life is but a dream.

After seeing the movie can't believe how much Bloodborne (which is by the way my favorite game of all time) was inspired by this film. People talk about Brotherhood of the Wolf or Berserk as inspirations for the game but I saw many similarities like the healing Church and the spread of madness turning men into beasts and the world going into ruin and madness as well as the protagonist/hunter (in the game) not being able to escape the nightmare, the involvement of Old Ones/Great Ones (in the game) with just a different time period and setting

Horrible trailer, really good movie. And I don't like it. It's probably considered "slow" by today's standards, refreshingly low on gore, and it's a great psychological build up. One of my primal fears is not knowing what's real and what isn't ... This movie did a great job playing on that fear.

@@dissolvemusicofficial7652 Well, that and, "The Thing" flopped. They're only listing the movies of Carpenter's that were successful financially.
