@@KohleAudioKult it could be that a graphite neck has all fibers in the same pattern vs a wood neck. It sounds more even, no dead spots and no surprises? If you would track both basses side by side; as an engineer you might hear and define the difference in the studio while fans live often would not.

I think it's not only an amazing "lesson by practice" for producers to see how to make an instrument fit in a mix, because it's litteraly a recording of the session it's also a useful tool for musicians to know what to tell the producer about their vision without wasting everyone's time, truely a course everyone should follow ! I'll buy it when i'll have more money but among online metal mixing courses, this one looks like the most useful not only for producers but also for performers !

I really liked that producing part of this. I'm not a pro or anything but I really love working with good musicians who respect my ideas to probably make their art more potent what comes to arrangement. @@KohleAudioKult That's understandable as musicians might be perfectionists (like me) so telling them there might be a way to make their "perfect" arrangement even better can hurt the master minds feelings. :D Luckily those guys I've worked with have either played in a same band with me (where I was the "master mind" as a song writer) or others have just recognized my views and knowledge what comes to production.

Well. His set has a 128 B-string, but he tuned up to C to have it tighter. What about using a 135 B-String? I know there are trade offs. For instance if you would use a 140 or even thicker, than the tone becomes surprisingly duller, because it lost flexibility and therefore the ability to produce higher clear overtones. just for interest: If you use 200 or 210 for low F# than even the overtones are not harmonic anymore because the string becomes so thick that it cannot be treated a a one dimensional string but a three dimensional object. Overtons are reflected inside the string so that they run a longer way inside the string compared to the foundation tones. I can recommend Pyramide. They produce all kind of strings exactly to your specs. And they are not expensive. They also made my 8-string low B tuning string set accordig to my specs.

I like the idea of running the signal through a guitar amp as well and adding in a little bit of that sizzle for some extra cut. But the main takeaway here for me truly is: the instrument itself is set up really well and has a good solid and snappy sound to it. You put that in the hands of a player with good technique and then the rest of the recording gear is secondary, you can basically get away with almost anything you want.
