Tony Visconti is solid gold , a great producer, so responsible for and integral for the massive success that T Rex had, and unless you were there at the time, you wouldn't realise how big they were!!! Tony was the 'fifth' member of the band , and the sound he achieved was brilliant, a wall of sound. Rock on !!! KALMIYH ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely beautiful to bring my childhood to life I would run home with my new T rex single put it on my garrard mono record player warm up the valves and this explosive enegry from the speaker would fill my bedroom with this skillfully constructed wall of sound I even built my own sound booth out of cardboard boxes so I could focus on the track I was the same with the B sides it was a real event and I've never felt that excitement from music since the 1970s playing on my brothers burgundy ripple AJAX drum kit and drumming to bill legends groove amazing times thankyou for your work Tony and love to the band and there families x
Some of the greatest sounding records ever made. Tony you caught the wind. Accidents and genius combined made this fantastic track. I love this so much it’s hard to put it into words. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Even though Tony Visconti produced so many artists in his long career (Bowie, Gentle Giant, Sparks, etc) to me, his most memorable and significant work was with T. Rex.
Fantastic by the master🎸 And now we can have 120 tracks in pro tools cubase etc, and still not finish a song, or sound as good I finished more songs on my 8 track and captured the immediate energy...then i do now with all the bells whistles and plugins 😳🎸😎
3:09 - Marc did a lot of that enthusiastic shouting, on a LOT of songs, whilst playing the guitar. Caught by the room mic. Another reason Tony Visconti is a brilliant producer
Tony I am curious, my first ventures into recording was with the 1968 Phillips EL 3302 cassette recorder that my parents bought me for my 14th B,day in 1972. It came with a hand held external plug in mic and had one button for record one for play and a forward & rewind button. What was yours and your first recording memories with it. You take care now and god bless you.
Amazing. Thought the studio takes and mixing by Tony Visconti were well explained. I learnt something there ! The string arrangements were beautifully arranged when added, something dearly missed in later songs. Eight track recording on tape...wow, sounds a labour compared to digital tracking, but all this sounds lovely. Interesting sounds from the FLY brown album, maybe EMI next ?
Recordings back in these days were better,4-8 tracks was enough for the sound engineer who could still work magic on the tracks, tony worked on many hit recordings.. legend 👌
17:24 Tony mentioned Marcs Gold Top Les Paul, if i understood that right. But i have never seen Marc with a gold Top Les Paul, and i'm a Marc and T.Rex fan not later than Telegram Sam. Marcs normally used Les Paul was in naturally wood top finish. P.S. in the meantime i've found a video "Lifes a gas" german tv show where Marc indeed played a Les Paul Gold Top with P90 pickups. 👍
So we were able to send men to the moon but we only had 8 tracks to record music on. And there was no storage device like a USB or floppy disc so when you deleted a track it was gone forever. Hard to fathom...
Great video, but I wish Tony Visconti would make up his mind? In his excellent biography he trashes Marc as being "a not very good guitarist, who couldn't even tune his guitar", yet in this video he gushes how wonderful a guitarist and musician he was???? To be fair, when Visconti stopped producing T.Rex, the sound on the later albums was pretty poor.
That's because Bolan was not a record producer. He had a different skill set. Unfortunately, he didn't know his limitations. Thought he could anything. That's cocaine talking. His music during that period paid the price.
old man Tony doesnt like modern music production, wants to live in in the past when he actually had a clue how things work. He thinks all modern producers who work in Ableton use only loops and know nothing about the production process
