Young Matt Reynvaan is producing some of the most terroir driven Rhone style varietals in all of Washington state. Drawing upon the consulting expertise of Cayuse's Christophe Baron, it's really no surprise that Matt's wine continues to draw domestic and international attention. From his award winning 100% Syrah Stonessence & the classic Northern Rhone In the Rocks blend of mostly Syrah with a touch of Viognier to the co-fermented Queen's Road White, a blend of two thirds Marsanne & one third Viognier, Matt is proving that he is a force and a leader in the Washington wine scene.
When we arrived at his facility, construction on his new addition was already well on its way. That's good news when demand for your wine is beginning outstrip supply. Shortly after we introduced ourselves, Matt jumped in his truck and led us up to the Foothills in the Sun vineyard, built on a hillside. As you can see, the grapes look healthy but still had a few weeks to go to achieve phenolic ripeness. I expect even greater things from Matt in the years ahead and would not at all be surprised if he emerges as one of the stars of Washington state!
