Willie and Benni fight for the orangutans and the rainforest!
Benni is committed to saving the orangutans and their habitat, the rainforest. For this he has launched a project. Due to the invitation of Dr. med. Willie Smits, a forestry scientist, orangutan saver and environmental activist, Benni travels with his family to Indonesia in the spring of 2016.
Together with Willie, Benni visits orangutan-rescue-camps and schools, encounters the local Dayak and learns in the middle of the jungle sustainable cultivation methods and productions as an alternative to palm oil.
But Benni sees also burned and cleared forest areas, driving through kilometer-long palm oil plantations and over poisoned rivers. Suddenly he understands how important the role of the orangutans is as a gardener of the rainforest: For the great apes with their food selection ensure the survival of healthy rainforests. Those forests that produce the oxygen, that our world so urgently needs in times of climate change.
Benni decides to work in the future for the rescue of the rainforest and its inhabitants.
