I had the privilege of teaching at the junior school that Jesse and his two brothers attended, called Merchiston Preparatory School, in Pietermaritzburg. I only got there when he was in grade 7 and I was so taken aback by his and his brothers' manners, their selflessness and they enjoyed team spirit and camaraderie and creating school spirit too. He would help coach my u/10C boys teaching them some of the essentials he'd learnt and didn't think anything to invest time with these boys . The Kriel boys epitomized back then what a young gentleman should be. His mom came from far out of town to watch and shout for her boys playing and I don't think she missed a match! Such a great foundation he came from and so great to see that he has built on that. He won the senior boys cross-country that year which I was haring and I was so impressed by his tenacity and the way in which he beat some of the seasoned runners. I just hope he gives praise to The Lord for his talent which is a blessing he's received and if he can do this he'll reach full potential.
This is one top notch center - one of the best in the world. Watch him in the 2019 World Cup. He will be strong and ready, and may well score the winning try...........Watch this space.....his stellar career is just starting.......he will end up right there with the great Danie Gerber in time. Stay fast Jessie......
