To see other skilled tradesmen truly care about solving the client's issues and go the extra mile like you did by adding that extra catch basin and not "pocketing the extra" is a wonderful thing to see. Shawn your work is top notch and honest. Wish you, your team and family all the best in the New Year.
By raising the concrete against the bldg you also get a smoother transition with those door sills. 🤩 The down hill curb turned out real nice too. Love that you do “in the rain” after footage.
Hello from the Netherlands . as a true Zeeuw (province) and Dutchman, as Water People it is so beautiful and fantastic to see that there are still other people who have the insight into how water runs and determines its own way and how you can steer that in a natural way to the right place . thanks for the video Shawn. Sincerely, Hollandduck
Nice one Shawn, another solid, professional job with good results. Great to see the concrete guys working hard, turning it round quickly and delivering a great job every time !
Ah the joy of seeing you fix others dumb mistakes, and see the perfect result, that is sooooo rewarding, watched this after having a really bad day at work, and now I am happy inside again, good job!
As of date I have watched this twice - this second time I am even more impresed with the work done than I was the first time. The little things that matter came across even better.
Something about the way the guys pour and spread that concrete is mesmerizing. A superlative job! And the walk-though to check the drainage is always fun. Thanks Shawn!
Great job to solve this problem. Great watching all the people involved solving this water issue. Breaking concrete, adding catch basins, correcting the angle away from the building, laying out the new concrete and following up with the video seeing the water flow like you planned it. Just great work. Looks like all involved enjoy their work. Hats off to the cement guys, too. Buen echo.
I love that not only you show the before (problematic phase) but you also show after (solution phase) and you also follow through and show how well the solution works. 👍🏼👍🏼 I love the way you work and I have the same mentality. That's called a job well done and a good night's sleep with amazing work.
Everyone on my team is a valued professional and I welcome their input. Sometimes I start telling them what the job is and they'll say, what about doing it this way, and I reply, yes that's how we're doing it....now.
@@GCFD This answer, I really wish more people could think like that. You don't just hire muscles, you hire people with skills and experience, and their input is worth listening to.
Shawn you’re brilliant man as a plumber in the commercial industry I’ve done tons of drainage outdoors and now I’m on my own with my own company it’s amazing to see there’s good guys out there that understand hydro mechanics like you do I get into it a lot around here with landscapers and other drainage companies that build disaster after disaster especially the burrito wrapped French drains to name one lol keep it up
Filter fabric works great. You just have to find the brands that work well. Dude, even the DOT uses it. But ya, I certainly agree that most companies do not do good drainage work.
@@High-Flow-Drainage-Solutions lol the dot isn’t the greatest branch in the world also u can use filter fabric I didn’t say that I actually Do usually line the bottom Of the French drain with fabric so silt doesn’t climb up into the French drain piping holes but a full burrito wrap Is a waste
@@High-Flow-Drainage-Solutions it works it’s just slightly restrictive to flow and for what it is the pipe stays just as clean depending on the soil type
You are becoming a master of getting water away from buildings......You and your team really are making a name for yourselves....Everyone loves a hard worker and you have a gang of them.
I’m a big fan of yours in the UK. I’ve been following you around. two and a half years now and without doubt, this has been your best video in every way.. very professional. Keep ‘em coming 👏👏👏
Thank you Brian! This was one of my last videos with my old Garmin virb action cameras. I now have gopro 10s at 4k. I wish I had made the switch sooner. More good stuff is OTW!
another stellar job Shaun and couldnt think of a better result. I had several videos to watch when i got home but yours as always was the first I got into. True professional
Many thanks for sharing this video! It was essential to me, OMG , almost a year I was looking for an effective solution to my similar problem in my yard. You did amazing job, THANK YOU!
It's probably been close to 8 months since I last watched one of your videos and I have to say I'm loving the outro. Time to catch up on everything I've missed.
Shaw, I really interesting, educational and entertaining video. Thanks! And please do not be afraid to repeat stuff you probably have repeated a lot in the previous videos you have made. Stuff like "water want to flow downhill", and "you never ever want water flowing to the house". It really adds to your videos when you point out these principles.
This is probably one of my favorite videos, great synergy between the boss man and employees as well as the music, it may be RU-vid stock music but it’s very relaxing and fits with the time-lapse clips
Amazing video Shawn, love the drone footage, that's awesome .. must be amazing knowing your work will be here 50-100 years from now serving the next generation of people.
Great job solving the problem. You should create a master class on drainage. It's disappointing to see all the jobs you have to fix when other people don't do it the right way. People need to learn to call you first because then they get the job done the right way the first time.
Love the project! Agree: very important to add that catch basin. That location needed one due to its low point position. I sure like those catch basins. So pitiful that all that expense went into the first project establishing those catch basins with no fall away from the FFE. Smart to never put drains against the foundation. Great project.
Really enjoyed the great educational work from you guys mate. Loved the concrete work and great personalities too. You also threw in some awesome innovative camera work which was a treat… shots from the drone, in drains and even up the concrete shute. Bloody ripper of a program. Great work mate.
Thanks for the video. I’ve been watching your channel for a while now and one of my favorite parts in them is when you go back in the rain to show us how it’s working. Great work!!
Oh man! My son really wants one of those millipedes as a pet! Your knowledge about drainage systems is unprecedented but I didn't know you were an entomologist as well!
Yes Sierra! I worked for a few years as an aquatic ecologist and my specialty was identifying benthic macroinvertebrates (bugs that live in the stream bottom). I also did my master's work in community ecology and climate change using insect communities. 👍
Magnificent job well done Shawn, Harvey's crew did a wonderful job as well you guys really work well together keep up the good work and thank you being a decent and upstand man the world needs more like you. Shout out to Ronald and Jeremy God bless you.
@@GCFD You and your guys are great too though... watch your videos all the time. Very professional installations and you always know what's best no matter the situation... love that you sit on the videos for so long too, until you can add the rain footage - it's great to see it in action...
One of the best investments ive made was one of those sewer jetter hoses for a pressure washer. I used to have issues with drains backing downstairs in my house and after hiring a plumber a few times, enough was enough. What was truly shocking was the sheer volume of "debris" that builds up in the pipes over the years. Everyone always blames the toilets but what surprised me was how much buildup was caused by the laundry. All that fine fiberous stuff slowly accumulates into literal bricks of fiber that plug everything up.
Nice to see the millipede relocation. They are important to the soil. And very educated too, nice job at the site. The first contractor, took the money and run. Good job guys!
Water flows downhill. Seems so intuitive, so why don't more people know it? Lol!!! Love watching the way you present the beautiful work of these concrete crews!!! Love Miguel and all the guys. You're the best, Shawn.
I had a pet Millipede as a kid (About the size of a Cigar) - they make surprisingly good pets, and are great for the soil if you're gardening! They do love sweet fruits and veggies - anything they can find rotting on the ground. Melon rinds were my Millipede's favorite dish.
It is amazing to watch people who know exactly what to do. I found it to be reasonable to expect my Latino workers to know what to do and I did not have to ask a lot of questions. Fun working with those guys as to being their customer.
Great job! Going the extra mile no matter what! That was a great add with that extra basin for sure! A lot of water under that little bridge deck! Don’t mind the longer videos either. Be safe and have fun!
I agree with your assessment. It is always far better to prevent the water from getting anywhere near the building. It is good to have both active (drains) and passive (sloping) systems in case the drains get clogged. I would add mesh to the sidewalk. Helps prevent unwanted cracking. But would require a pumper.
Hi Shawn, Great video nice job it amazes me that people don't clean away leaves from these drains. If they don't it will eventually clog up. Your system will work great if managed right.Keep the videos coming.👍👍
Always enjoy the Gate City Foundation videos. It’s so fascinating because we can all relate to water issues. My Mom always said, “water seeks its own level”. You bring peace to your customers. Harvey’s crew and yours are true professionals. Thank you Shawn. Happy New Year!
Fantastic job, great work as usual. You’ve got me questioning the channel drain installation on my patio close to my house now! 🤦🏻♂️😂. Wish I had seen these videos before!
As already commented, couldn't believe no rebar in that slab. Great job though. I'm sure the company that got ghosted ended up getting a better job done hiring you.
Another great video. I am planning on putting a slab against my house like you did here and then incorporating your French Drain system to keep the water away from my foundation on one side of the house.
The finish result was great, that existing strip drain is a disaster waiting to happen. I would still put reinforcing steel in the concrete. Consider it cheap insurance. Also would note the method of cutting into the bigger pipe for the drainage basin, can be improved and more efficient, we use a 4 inch Snap T junction, you just glue it on and drill out center, quick fit and reinforces the pipe too. Worth a google look. Even though one pipe is 8 inch and a different size pipe, we just use a heat gun to soften it and spread it over the bigger pipe, using a leather glove, great invention. Thanks for sharing, from Down Under!
Yeh Down Under must have a AS Standard for Re-Bar hey ? The Council Plans shouldnt have allowed the building to be set so low against a hill in the first place
Excellent video and what a job. Great work between GCFD and Harvey's team to get that large area marked and poured. Looks like it is working like a dream as well - but maybe the homeowner will be best off investing just a little more in a leaf blower 😅 Cheers Shawn, looking forward to the next one already.
Dear Sean, it was a 45 minute video that seemed like 10 of how good it was, interesting, entertaining, wanting to see more, an excellent job and very well explained for those of us who are not experts on these issues, I hope you continue to surprise us with So interesting, great and educational videos, HAPPY NEW YEAR (with a lot of work and health) my greetings from Buenos Aires ...
Nice solution. I’m an electrical engineer, but our 1st year civil engineering lecturer stated the First Rule of Engineering as ‘You can’t make water run uphill!’
Really? Some people make quite an effort to make it seem so. Take a look a recent reddit post where water seems to go uphill. search "This whole place doesn’t make sense!! Who has an explanation!?"
@@firesurfer Various 'Mystery Shacks' around the country were built as optical illusions. I specifically remember one at Knott's Berry Farm in California (since torn out) where water appeared to run uphill.
Absolute amazing job. It always sucks to have to come in and fix bad work, but I'm sure your client is very happy with yours and Miguel's crews hard work.
I've got some work to do around my place, I think I'll pick me up one of those pretty green wheelbarrows. . It was a nice touch,, you putting that in there.
Logic would say, that you creating the low point, puts control in your hands. Great video. I've never known or thought about the location of a grate like the one you removed.
Hi Sean, another great video. Worth the wait, it is so much more satisfactory to see the end result working. Bummer that it took you an extra couple of months to get the footage, but well worth it to see it working. Keep'em coming!
Great video! This is one of my fav that you've put out! I like these bigger projects! I don't know why I watch these, I live in Phoenix where we get flash floods during monsoons and it is dry and sunny the other 350 days of the year, lol. But great work!!!!
Shawn, great job again. I was thinking of using a channel drain to caught water in front of the flower bed and run it out to the side yard, but now I'm not sure.
Might not be relevant to your situation, but... Where is the water going? Where does it go once it gets to your side yard?In my garden I'd be looking at improving drainage under the flower bed rather than moving it somewhere else. In the UK our system sewer system is so undersized that we have a law prohibiting diverting surface water into the highway - therefore always looking for solutions to drain water without moving it very far.
