The reason behind having axel as defender was due to me wanting to have the max % of atk/def passive boost before comitting a foul, i had no other place to put him, darren was because he has a passive in wich you get 20%KP when u regain the ball without a direct catch for 15 seconds.
It lasts for 15 seconds, to reactivate thr boost, you need to regain the ball again Usually you can see if those stats are active in the bottom left corner.
