The Golden Hind, The Flagship of Sir Francis Drake. There is not a lot of solid information about this ship, but a lot of educated guesses and much more conjecture. It is thought that the original name of this ship was Pelican and it was built around 1574. It is also thought that Francis Drake had renamed the ship Golden Hind (which refers to a female red deer) after he sailed through the Magellan Strait. I am not sure of where Revell got the plans to make this model but no one is sure how correct it is, as far as comparing it to the rebuilt one in Britain, it looks about the same, but no one knows if that one is correct either as far as I know. After the voyage thje ship was put into drydock and rotted there, and was broke up about 20 years later. No one really knows what it looked like because not many original plans survive from that period of Tudor England. This kit was made in 1965 but I must say I am quite impressed with what they made then and it looks so much better than modern revell ship kits.
