So the InCase Woolenex case for the Apple AirPods feels great in my hands. The texture on this case is top notch so if all you want is a thin, non rubbery feeling case for your AirPods or AirPod Pro’s, the Woolenex case is worth checking out.
At MREH, Monty and I base our reviews on actual usage. Now that Monty’s finalized the scoring system, the fun part starts. Every AirPod case we review here on out gets ranked so it’s almost like watching scoreboard for your favourite sports league?
The Incase Woolenex is #16 out of 22. Great design, average protection and below average functionality. My scoring system takes into account everything so certain things that this case fails at like color options and a loop of some sort don’t matter to you, may not apply to your decision to get this product.
The look of this Apple Exclusive product is awesome. This is the only case in our collection that uses a fabric exterior rather than fake leather, real leather or rubbery exteriors. It’s a simple looking case whose sole purpose is to prevent your giant white chiclet from getting scratched.
The case comes in two colors, pink and black. Now in an effort to make the case sound fancier than it is, Apple’s website says the case is crafted with refined, durable Woolenex, a light weight fabric blend with excellent abrasion and weather resistance and the shell is made from injection-moulded Bayer Makrolon polycarbonate. Sounds fancy doesn’t it? Nothing like dropping names to make things sound good.
Woolenex is basically a synthetic fabric made from polyester. Which is scratch resistant. Bayer is the company name, Makrolon is the brand of plastic and injection molding basically allows you to make plastic parts by spewing hot, melted plastic into a form. The other way of forming plastic is thermoforming but that only works on larger pieces of plastic.
Cool back stories right? But does it really matter? All I care is that this fancy named thing fits my AirPods Pro well. And it does. The bottom of the AirPod’s case slides easily into the bottom, is kept in place by two rubber sides so it doesn’t move around from day-to-day, and the top cap stays on because there’s a sticky at the top.
I’ve had mixed results with my Incase products. The laptop cover I bought a few years back didn’t fit my laptop BUT this Incase Tensearlite is my goto ultra-thin laptop bags so...
When it comes to portability, this case has nothing. No loop, no holes in the case for a potential loop. Which isn’t a bad thing because I personally think loops are stupid BUT removing that option all together means this product scores lower.
Remember my biggest complaint with Mous’s case? It pinches you. It’s the same issue with this case. The 90 degree angled cutout by the hinge area will give you a small finger nip if you’re not careful. Is it annoying enough to forgo this case all together? I don’t think so.
I had no issues clicking my cap all day, there is a hole for the indicator light on the front and the sync button is accessed by pressing the leaf button on the back. I wonder what fancy material that’s made from…
This case handles incredibly well. Honestly, if you just want something that covers your AirPod’s this is a good option. Again, it’s just nice to have something that’s not fake leather, or real leather or really rubbery in my pocket.
Now how about protection? FAIL.
