should've done a turning radius test with before and after you did the mod. then you can really tell how much you gained, and Good job on the video, very helpful.

It's called a Morse taper. It has a slight press fit effect. That's why you need a big hammer or a ball joint remover tool to pry them apart. It's not something you can really do with a stepped drill bit. That's probably the reason people cut and weld them instead of drilling.

Note: put the castle nut on backwards.... if you expose the notch and hit it, it could break....

I get the angle you did after the mod on my stock ranger. Should I just get a 1.5:1 quickener and some sway bars and call it a day? It's already got the beltech 2 4 drop, springs in front leaf flip in back

With the tie rod closer to the center of the knuckle shouldn't the car be more responsive while turning?

Supra also look nice wearing cool wheel! You mean, the wheel Is BBS? It was one step closer to drift machine by changing the steering knuckle! It is to compete Freddie's also as a player in Japan's D1 Grand Prix After a little more! ? :-)

makes me wonder what modifications people typically do to mk3 supras to gain some angle to make it essentially become 'normal' angle (like what an s-chassis has) so that they'll be much more conducive to drifting without being a super dedicated track car suspension setup that isn't ideal for the street (like what Wisefab front suspension is for s-chassis). i can only think of a few mk3's that i'm aware of that have been sorted out to slide well, and i assume they must have some increased angle since they seem to skid as good as any other car. the best example that comes to mind is the Risky Devil mk3 supra (look up the "Risky Devils Extended Cut" video). love the body lines of that car, and the fact that the proper aggressive wheel fitment both looks appealing and performs very well!

i havent tried them, i wanted to get more angle for 100% free, and they wouldnt give me any more angle now because my tires still hit the sway bay and stop

Is there any real benefit in picking the cut and weld option over the drill a new hole option? Drilling it just seems like theres a bit less to worry about.

+TheIgnorantBastrd my thoughts exactly, thats why I did it. You can easily go back to stock with the drill method if you mess up, if you cut and weld you CAN'T

i would have just removed the swaybar and given that a go first, but the differance for me is i have a corolla not a supra and i know alot of guys drifting ke70's and ae71's most remove front swaybar anyways as they understeer alot less on all accounts

Just did this 2 weeks ago, but I also have beech inner spacers, and I went in 1.5" with tierod hole. running 17x9 -15 with 235/40r17

How much weight or force do these have to hold? Im dying to try this, probs the cut and weld method but i dont wanna die. Ive got harbor freights welder lol. Modestly say im a decent welder with it tho. Thanks in advance.

Well ive put a few thousand miles on this set up and "drifted" a few times with no issues yet. The reason I like the drill method over cut and weld is that if you mess up with the welding, you cant really go back to stock..But if you drill it wrong and mess up or dont like it you can go back to stock in minutes.

Corey Stevens no, you would still end up hitting the bump stops, and modifying the knuckle also makes the steering ration quicker

You could remove the sway bar and possibly relocate it or get stiffer springs and not worry about contact? Unless you dont wanna go that route lol

Yeah just barely, i only got 8mm spacers, I'm gonna get 12mm spacers and that should eliminate contact

I have personally done it with both me and my friends supra and it is perfectly streetable as long as your alignment is good. Feels amazing being able to get way more sideways. Eventually I cut and welded mine to be safer cuz there is a super small bit of play in the wheel if you still it too big. I'll post a video of my buddy's supra sliding with the mod pretty soon. You can see on my channel right now without the mod.

hey I have a 1jz supra too!!(stock twins) could you do a video with the steering rack spacers? gonna do the knuckle mod but want to do the spacers at the same time but don't know how to do it and I think it could help with your angle.

+Enrique Diaz the spacers won't help if you do this mod, the tire hits the sway bar before you get to full lock. You need more modification to get the spacers to do any benefit

boarderboi7 the point is this isnt a street car, there are things you do not have to worry about on a drift car because it is not meant to be driven anywhere but the track. this mod is one of them

+Poor Man Mods the only difference is that MKIII's / GX81's (same knuckle) are known for having stress cracks from factory, and that you gained about 5 degree's lock (which in drifting makes no difference at all), now you've just drilled into it and created a weak spot as it wasn't treated for heat soak and will crack after a few events of abuse. There's a reason people cut / weld / buy kits, it prevents stress. I'm all for one for your channel dude but this just made me wonder why it was even done (apart from showing people how to do it if they wish to).

+H&H RUNNERS I agree that he added a weak point, but I don't think the knuckle will crack just from a few runs, unless he was seriously abusive on the car, and actually, since he drilled it closer to the hub, the part of the knuckle that the tie rod connects to would be less likely to crack since there is less stress on the entire arm that the tie rod bolts to and the part of the knuckle closer to the hub will allow it to take more stress

Easier way to get those rotors off the hub, see those two small bolt holes that aren't used for anything, they are threaded, find the right sized bolt, put it in, tighten them up .. separates the rusty arse rotor right off the rusty arsed hub.

The tie rod end fits into a tapered hole. Hence the reason it requires a removal tool. You've created a straight hole. So..... A tapered shaft in a straight hole. Super dangerous man!!!! Your gonna get somebody killed. You should really consider taking this video down!!!! If you've already done this mod... Quit driving your car until you can undo the damage you've done!

Okay so you are creating the "taper" with a step drill. Not good enough. I worked for years as a machinist. Your taper needs to be the exact angle of both parts (the arm and the tie rod end). "It's been fine" is not good enough!!!! You are hurling thousands of pounds of steel down city streets with lives other than yours at stake!!!!

There is a ton of load transfered through the original contact area between the tie rod end and the tapered hole in the steering knuckle. You have decreased that surface area incredibly by mismatching the contact area of those two components. Think about how heavy the front of your car is. Now consider how much that weight multiplies as the car is thrust into motion. This is when the engineers come in and are able to precisely sheer strengths and all that other metallurgy and all that good stuff. Now we're dealing with science, and for a damn good reason. The method you've shown lacks any scientific method other than "it's fine so far". Will it break and kill somebody, maybe not. But let's say it does and somebody gets hurt or killed. This in no way is justified by your desire to "have fun on the cheap".

I know most people believe i did it the "wrong way", what I want to know is how exactly it will break. If you tell me its going to break and kill someone I want to know how. Is it the tie rod, is it the knuckle? You can't tell me i did it wrong and its going to break without being able what will happen. If you can give me specifics I will try to "fix" it.
