Facts. Whenever I do a 5k I make sure the first 1.5 miles I keep a steady easy pace and then just full on get after it. It’s easier that way in my experience

@@HeyItsJoe1 lmao the middle school in my town always does a last day 5k thing right kinda like to get kids out and as a fundraiser. So, of course there is an option to actually compete, so I do that. I’m the complete opposite of you man. I’m low key kinda lazy especially if I get bored😂😅. So what I do is I just hang around the middle to back of the runners for the first 1.5 miles. After that for .5 miles I pick up the pace enough to make up some time. And for the last mile I go full out and let me tell you...nothing is funnier than sprinting past the people leading especially since they are our best runners and all guys(I is a girl) like the look on their face is priceless and I don’t think I’ve ever had that many curses yelled at me before. Sorry just a funny story I wanted to share😂

I don't know if you are familiar with race s but it doesn't work like that. Who is to say the break she took didn't give her that last energy. Sometimes breaks are bad, they make your body stop doing something it is use too for like 20 minutes. Then restarting it takes time.

howardOKC that is a loaded question. I would say take a minute and a half off, but there are too many variables. She is a very fast female, because she also stopped. This is equal or possibly a better effort than the men’s.

Good for you smartly and safely hosting a community event like this and sticking up for it! I have a dumb run question though: what does it mean when two leaders “work together” how does switching off leading laps help? I just think of it as tiring yourself out more, I never ran track and always wanted to. Your videos are really helping me learn, since you narrate races and stuff. Speaking of which, you could totally host a podcast (if you don’t already) if you can find things to talk about for an entire 5k hahaha!

My best 5k is at parkrun 22:57, did an unofficial 22:30 and that was a few months ago. But considering I've come down from 33:30 in 18 months I'm incredibly proud of my times. End of the day guys if you're unhappy with your times, always know that someone would dream to run as fast as you. Hope to break the 20 someday, Can't wait to do it

I've never really "maintained contact" in a 5k. I do local road races, and I just spend the entire race picking off people who started too fast. Passing someone is a real motivator for finishing strong.

Can you do the following event: - 20 runners of the same gender - devide them evenly across a 400 mtr track (so every 20 metres) - Someone in the middle waves a flag or gun shot and race begins - if you overtake (or tick) the person in front of you then that person is out. He steps away via the inside (to avoid accidents). - see who survives the longest The fun is that everyone needs to start extremely explosive but then when contenders drop out it becomes an endurance race

I remember meeting Tony a few years back when I was shoe shopping. Saw him a few days later run a sub 15 at the butte to butte and I've loved watching him put up really good times every year since. It'll be sad to not see him around anymore.
