Multi-axis machines provide a high level of CNC manufacturing capabilities and come with several benefits which make them invaluable tools to use. In simple terms, multi-axis machining is a manufacturing process whereby tools can move in 4 or more directions. This technical element helps to provide better surface finishes and quicker production times. CNC programming is made easier though the use of multi-axis CNC machines.

Just to appease my curiosity, what is the purpose of having the spindles running during the handoff between spindles, I feel like it would be safer if they where stopped, I'm sure there is a good reason??
@Assilidor
@Assilidor 3 года назад
Im doing the transfer with spining spindles because im using a robot for loading parts. Spining transfer gives me a bigger chance to avoid chips in the jaws when transfering

@Old Dog Tools: Not faster if next operation is with C-axis machining.
@TheFeralEngineer
@TheFeralEngineer 3 года назад
Spinning on approach gives you the opportunity to clean chips off of the part and jaws. The ideal way to do this (at least on the machines I work with, one being a ten axis mill/turn), is to approach with rpm sync, enable and home both C axes and grab static, with the C servos engaged. It's the most accurate way to match feature to feature between spindles. Spindle phase sync is primarily for polygon stock.
@marcf7008
@marcf7008 3 года назад
@@TheFeralEngineer makes sense, I knew there had to be a good reason. In my old lathe Iv got sub spindle, however it's only a 2 axis lathe so no milling etc, Iv always handed off with spindle stopped. But that makes sense now. Thanks.
@TheFeralEngineer
@TheFeralEngineer 3 года назад
@@marcf7008 on any machine with a traversing sub axis, you're doing yourself an injustice by not running it through via the available commands on the control. Simplest way to do it would be (on a fanuc or similar based machine): Handle jog sub to "grip" position Set g54 sub spindle axis (usually A or B) zero point (B, 0, measure) You'll get a distance from machine home of, let's say -14.5" Send the sub home Program structure: O0001; (Left side operations) M5 M1 M211 (sub chuck open on mori) M51 (air blow) M35 (rpm sync) G97s500m3 G0 B3.0 (clearance above part) G1 G54 G98 B0 F20. (grip position) M210 (close sub chuck) M11(open main chuck) G28B5. (Use 5." Above B0 position as "intermediate position" due to sub axis not having an incremental call) (Sub will return home) M5 M36 (disable sync) M1 (Right side operations) M30; Mileage may vary from machine to machine. M codes are always different from each manufacturer, so check your documentation for air blow, chuck open/close and sync commands.

Nice work. I'm curious how the machine operates. I used to work on a twin turret Mori Seiki ZL-200S with sub-spindle, It required two programs, one for each head, and used wait codes to synchronize operations between them. M201, M202, etc. The Tornos-Bechler Deco 20a and 13a swiss lathes I worked on had proprietary software that would synchronize or constrain operations between the main and back work so the machine could run continuously without one head waiting for the other, though. The downside of the Tornos machines was, being optimized for high volume production, they converted the program to binary so you couldn't read or edit the G-code in the machine.
@TheFeralEngineer
@TheFeralEngineer 3 года назад
Doosan does it the same way as Mori. Split control. Someone must've poked around in your parameters because mori wait codes are 100-199 (100-197 on recent machines because of m198 being external media) sub call. 200 series m codes are dedicated to second spindle commands - m203, m204, m219, etc. M200 and m201 are typically chip conveyor.
@josephshmoe1647
@josephshmoe1647 3 года назад
@@TheFeralEngineer You're right on with the wait codes, they were 100-199. It's been a couple of years since I worked on a lathe. I got out of the small shop where I worked on whatever needed to run and took a job in the milling department at a larger company. Been doing 3, 4 and 5 axis milling these days, though mostly they give me 5 axis jobs to do in a 3 axis.

I like it but try amping the sfm up for your finish turning. Especially with aluminum, sometimes it's better to just run straight rpms and feed rate. G97, not G96.

That boring bar T3, is there anything different you would do to break the chip instead of having a stringer? I can never get the chip to break nicely and not ball up.
@patrickmartinez3217
@patrickmartinez3217 3 года назад
Probably just leaving more stock for the finish pass would make it better. It’s probably not a heavy enough pass for the chip to curl into the chip breaker. A lot of manufacturers “finish inserts” are still good to about .040” depth of cut and in my experience being up in that range helps with the chip control.

yooooo i got you a new type of cnc drilling that can be fast even for really deep metal.... ok so you got your drill right what if you have a drill holder on the bootom..????? i mean the drill drills a hole to the bottom and then the drill holder gets atached to the drill that will make the drill being held from top and bottom.... maaan with the drill holder you can really up the ipm like allot because it is held by both sides....you can even add some nitrogen or something so that the heat doesnt build.... but i think this needs a new cnc machine.... but i mean if you get like a 20 sm solid steel and you drill it with a 22sm drill and then atach the drill holder to the drill you can easily drill the whole block because it hold both up and down.... you know drill brake because its pushed by only one side maaaaan that can be an awesome drill ....
