Hi everyone I just wanted to send out an up date on the Port Bolster Drive-in which by the way is called Irwin Drive-in I believe. Well she has been given a new lease on life. I just live up the road and I had noticed some equipment coming in and the treeline being extended. So with a little digging I found out that she was bought and is now in renovation stages. The old picture building where the old camera was shown in the video, is demolished. Not sure about the camera, but The grounds are now set up with rows of parking mounds for parking. She is expected to open later in 2022. Some good news for a change...

Thanks for this one Brent. I have many memories from the 70's going to the drive-in with my parents and us five kids in the family station wagon. Eveyone I've seen has a playground below the screen. There hasn't been any around where I live now for 40 years.

Here in So. California, I worked four years at a Drive In Theatre. There were many at that time, field was paved and offices sometimes were in the screen tower. Almost all drive-ins are now gone, giving way to walk-ins. Land was worth more than running a theatre and now are shopping centers! Has fun times working there right out of high school.

First dates in the early 70s. As a kid in the late 50s with my parents. I never saw a playground. That doesn't mean there wasn't one . Out of 5 of my siblings I can't imagine that at least one of us never noticed one . Lol . I'm curious now. The Mitchell Drive In , Hammond , Louisiana. 50s through 70s maybe 80s .

@@jenniehughes6927 we have one left here in Buffalo NY. We use to have 5 and all of them had play grounds right under the screen so the kids could play up until just before dusk. Our last Drive Inn has a miniature golf course in front now under the main screen and there are 4 screens. The food is great but the candy is expensive. I could get what they want 5 dollars a box of candy for a dollar a box at family dollar or dollar general.

Canada’s first Drive-In was built in 1946. The United States first Drive-In was built in 1933. The United States has the largest remaining Drive-In theatres at Approx. 330. Canada has the second largest number at 36 remaining Drive-In theatres. Sixteen of the 37 remaining Drive-In’s in Canada are located in the province of Ontario. Many Drive-In theatres in Canada have closed down and are left abandoned never to show a film again.

I grew up in and around an Ontario drive-in in the 80’s. Dad was the projectionist, mom used to work the concession stand where they met a long time ago. Used to sometimes let us do the changeovers, and learned to drive in the lot during the day when we’d go to fix the speakers that customers forgot to take off their windows when they left. Another great video, bringing back memories of all the movies we went to see at our local Drive-In when I was a kid in Massachusetts. Ours closed down in 1979. It was torn down and now a shopping center is on the site. We used to hang the speaker in the car window, the sound was always scratchy and would occassionally break up. The concession stand had popcorn, sodas, hot dogs and a lot of candies. Fond memories. The place would be packed with cars, this was the 1970s... a different time indeed.

I live 10mins from the drive. Good times there as a teenager and then took my kids there. Sad to see the state it's in now.

I used to go to this drive in when I was a kid and spent most of my time on the swings and slide with my friends. My parents spent a lot of time there when they were teenagers as well, closest one around to us, very nostalgic to see

Like seeing these old theaters. Wonder if the room under the screen was an arcade for kids. Great job here Brent.

Hi Brent. Cool find. Don't think I have ever been to a drive in before. Sad it's rotting away. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.

I'm so happy we still have a drive in theater in my little town. They didn't have to close because of the covid either.

I know this drive-in. I recognized it right away because I lived in the area until 2016. I’m not sure when it closed but it was closed down way before 2014. Thanks for the video because I had never seen inside the fence even though I drove by the place everyday on my commute to work. So thanks!!

Old website showed movies playing up till 2014 but maybe it wasn’t updated. Someone mentioned it closed in 2013. Hard to find history on this place

The playground still had the great swing set that you could really get air and the slippery slide gave you butterflies as you slide down. Good times.

Good job Brent, proof it doesn't have to be an old house to be entertaining. I'd like to see more stuff like this. Take care.

WOW I am supprissed that it is in some kind of good condition . Even tho the consession stand needs a good remake the Drive-In could be turned into 2 or 3 screens

I grew up going to this Theatre, I am so surprised someone hasn't bought it. As for the speakers on the posts, they got rid of those in the 70's, they had wires that you would attach to your car antenna for a good signal. It closed down because all film was switched to digital and the cost of a new system was too expensive, that's what I herd anyway.
