Incredible boost in power with Power Wheels gearboxes and 12V motors in a KidZone bumper car

This was a surprise upgrade as I wanted to utilize barely used 12V motors and gearboxes from the Power Wheels that I put into before my first video. My daughter totaled the car from crashing into the curb, by breaking the front axel off the frame and was pretty much unfixable. I didn’t want the items to go unused so I decided to put them in the bumper car. So, when your child hands you a basket of lemons, you make lemonade!
This gearbox swap was pretty fun to do, and the outcome was way better than I imagined. I believe most bumper cars you buy today are outfitted with 12V motors but if you have an older 6V version, buying some new gearboxes and making this upgrade is a MUST if you want to entertain the kids.
Be sure to subscribe as I might look into putting in a new voltage regulator and 60V battery into the system!
If you have any comments or suggestions, let me know. Enjoy and hope you learn something!

Went from 6V 14,000 RPM motors to 12V 35,000 RPM motors which was a huge upgrade for the car. Let me know what you think!

Did u change out the mother board also or just use the 6 volt control board it cane with?

I fried the 6V board almost immediately when I plugged in the 20V drill battery. You’ll want to upgrade to a 12V board at least and dial down the voltage to something like 15-16V to avoid frying it (still run the risk but your odds are better at those levels).

I really want to upgate my girls bumper cars to a 12v over the 6v is it easier to replace the motor like you did here over the battery?

I ran my bumper car with 6V for a while just fine. It’s about power delivery though, you need to upgrade the power source (drill battery) to make any changes.

I have a 12 volt bumper car for the kids that I want to upgrade. You mentioned we could reach out for help with that. How do I do that

You could still use the drill battery for it but you’ll want to get a voltage step down to avoid any possible damage to the board. I was able to use the 20V on the 12V board for a while until it fried. So I think if you get everything and dial it down to 15-16V, you’ll see a huge improvement without running the risk of frying the board. Let me know if you need anymore help!

Whats the battery life on one charge

For the battery I use (6 mAh), about 30-45 min of continuous use.

Why did you cut the ends off, no need do that, shows amature not knowing how to modify wiring.

Oh interesting - can you link the timestamp on where I did that? Admittedly, I am new to doing this but learning as I go (including ya'll to the experience). Anything to help improve the process!
