The Royals returned home after a split in Cleveland and immediately faced adversity, falling behind 8-0, but refused to go away. Nelson Velázquez got the Royals on the board with an RBI infield single before MJ Melendez made things interesting launching a three-run blast to pull the Royals within four. The Mariners would tack on a run in the 6th before the Royals pushed back with three thanks to another RBI from Melendez and a two-run single from Hunter Renfroe, making it 9-7. The score would stay the same until the bottom of the 9th inning when Maikel Garcia brought home a run on a ground-out setting the stage for Bobby Witt Jr. to come through with an electrifying RBI triple to tie the game. After intentional walks to load the bases, Nelson Velázquez stepped in again and hit a one-hop rocket that was too hot for the Mariners to turn a double play, giving the Royals a dramatic, come-from-behind, walk-off win.
