I’m not a fan of dry walled ceilings and walls in a basement. How do you get at the plumbing, electrical, and drain systems. Next basement I’ll use a OC product that the panels click into place for the walls. And for the ceiling, although a smooth flat surface is nice, this system employs T shaped track. One side gets attached to ceiling and the other section snaps into place. Allowing to get at ceiling mounted support systems. You did a very nice job on your basement

Congrats Andrew .. project turned out great! I know the next one you do you'll jackhammer your own floor and do the drain plumbing too ;) Kinda jealous of your jackhammer .. I have the Amazon $160 version which works OK, but nothing like those yellow Bosch's. Best in '24!

Nice work! For the best silicone lines you use tape first and then soap water. And you should add silicone to the ceiling boards, moisture from the shower Will rise and get up there Even with your fan on 😊

I’m back and forth about drop ceiling in the bathroom I’m planning on my basement. I read that it can cause trapped moisture and of course lead to mold. Thoughts?
@AndrewThronImprovements
@AndrewThronImprovements 10 месяцев назад
Hmm I don’t see how a drop ceiling would trap any more moisture than drywall 🤷‍♂️ I’m initially skeptical but I may need to do a little research
@shaneacevedo8157
@shaneacevedo8157 10 месяцев назад
Okay yeah, I was all about doing a drop ceiling, then I looked it up and saw a lot of literature saying it’s not ideal due to moisture accumulation/retention- BUT, pvc might be the factor that makes your application safer, along with the fan location. So yeah just another DIYer to another I say do what works best and as long as you’re aware of potential issues - just keep an eye on it.

By curiosity how much you pay for the house, how much you put into it so far and how much your house worth now? Because for some strange reason i put since the last 5 years, a 100k and my house hasn't went up in value

Nice work! I plan to do something similar in my basement. How much did the rough in plumbing cost you? I know there are a lot of variables, but I’m also in the Northeast and trying to get a ballpark for how much hiring out that step (including the concrete work) would cost.
@AndrewThronImprovements

WHY did you not use ANY vapor barriers. It looks nice now but it will rot out if you actually use it. Just asking for mold. also left a huge opening in your wall under the sink.

@evictioncarpentry2628

You should always build floating walls (code for us in Canada and likely northern states too) in a basement due to the slab shifting. This prevents it from heaving into your floor joists. Your electrical wires werent stapled properly. Thats an inspection fail. You don't need a licensed anyone to do any rough ins. Typically (not all the time) Homeowners can apply for their own permits. Just be sure you know the building codes for when it gets inspected.

I've seen your videos and can tell you take pride in your work. But this job was not something to be proud of. The waterproofing on theat shower tub is pathetic. The LVP is a big mistake. You should have tiled the floor. The accordion door is a real bad look. The custom barn door is odd considering the work on the door vs the work on the bathroom. The PVC piping is really weak. Use pex or copper I like your videos. Not trying to rip on you. I just think if you are going to film a video, you need to do better. If your a scammer trying to make easy money on a flip (I know you're not), keep doing renovations like this
@AndrewThronImprovements
@AndrewThronImprovements 10 месяцев назад
Appreciate all feedback! Let’s dive in a bit though: 1. Can you elaborate a bit on your waterproofing comments? The tub was set by the plumber and the shower surround was installed per manufacturers recommendation. As far as caulking, it is actually advertised as “Caulk Free”, but I added some as an added layer of insurance. 2. For the LVP, I just matched what was done in the rest of the basement. I agree that tile is nicer. 3. Accordion Door is definitely now a proud point haha. I call it tacky in the vid (cause it kinda is) but I needed access and went with a quick, cheap solution. Can’t defend that one too much haha. 4. I Agree they PEX and Cooper is superior to CPVC. I didn’t specify in my SOW (my mistake) and the plumber did the rough in with CPVC. 5. Custom Barn Door was just a fun project I thought of. I agree that it is a bit out of place. Let me know your thoughts on technical issues. I am not as worried about stylistic choices since no two people will agree on those. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Appreciate you!
@rosegold7975
@rosegold7975 10 месяцев назад
@@AndrewThronImprovements Hey no problem! 1. No problem with the tub. The issue is the shower surround. What you have almost always (99.9%) fail swithin 10 years. Water finds a way through it. I've seen it plenty of times and everyone I know involved with remodeling/building agrees. Most homes built before 2010 have tiled surrounds with waterproofing underlayment underneath. 2. Nothing wrong with LVP. Love that stuff. But in a bathroom with a shower, you are major risk of water penetrating and mold growth. I know it says waterproof but water gets through after several years and ends up in the basboards and drywall. Once again, most homes built before 2010 have tiled floors in the bathroom 3. You were smart for putting access to the furnace instead of more work to get access another way. Work smarter not harder. I just would have gone with a door lol 4. I've never seen CPVC for potable water be a good investment. Surprised a plumber uses it. 5. Bard door looks great! My comment was just the amount of work for that vs say not tiling the shower and floor seemed odd Love the videos
