Man I was 15 years old when this song came out. Everyone in my neighborhood used to sing this song every time it came on the radio at the time. I mean young people, older people, blacks , white people, just everybody. Anyone reading this from Crestwood in Chesapeake, Virginia “what’s up” you definitely know what I’m talking about. It was very popular in 1976/77

This song was on the Spark of Love album. It was the first LP I ever bought. Lenny won me over at 13. Years later, I was blessed to see him live in Atlanta, GA. His voice was still as crisp and wonderful as I remembered.

Lenny gonna get played at every wedding, reunion, bday party, any celebration. All AA ppl know this sing by heart even down to the Oh OH Oh's 🤣. Heard it when I was 8yrs old the 1st time. Didn't understand it then but grew to understand the words to well.

Thanks Hari! I was hoping you hadn't heard the song. In my opinion it is the best love song ever performed. Lenny is so good. Still, to this day, sounds amazing and still a great performer. I loved Tower of Power and own their vinyl along with Lenny's. Sunday mornings it soothes the soul.

You will probably enjoy viewing video from the Tyler Perry play Madea's Big Happy Family . A cover of the song Cause I Love You is done. I USUALLY DON'T LIKE COVERS. However; a young man named Jeffrey Lewis does the song justice. A MUST SEE! Also a live performance by a much older Lenny Williams himself is on RU-vid. The video to watch is one of Lenny performing with a college band during a half - time show. Lenny wears a red suit in this performance. Lenny still could hit those notes years later.
