@@gracefool they do use tools tho. did you see the disc detainer lock pick tool LPL made it so simple i could use it. give it some time and LPL will make a tool for the Stealth Key.

Iam working at a DMG Mori SLM 30 and SLM 12 . It is a wonderfull but really complicated technic what i also do is Finishing the Parts on a DMG Mori Monoblock 65 Mill.

Titan- Just wanted to ask you a question, SLM technology has to operate in a perfect vacuum, obviously you know this but it was not discussed in this video. How does Mathias respond to this question, what are dmg mori's ways of dealing with this very important safety issue. Is that a issue that would prevent a little guy like me from utilizing this technology or even somebody with a big successful shop like yourself from going out and buying this machine....

No vacuum required, just inert gas atmosphere to stop oxidising like weld shielding gas does.

@Titan, It may take a while to rough the material on the propeller but, would you agree that building the entire structure by additive would, at this point in time, still take a considerable amount of time longer?

Yes, it takes time... but you also save in material cost etc. Companies like SpaceX and Blue have been using this technology for years.

Looking forward to see what happens when they add in a 10+kW laser cutting head in addition to that additive laser + CNC milling. That'll bring in quick cut parts of inch thick steel & aluminium plate or 5-axis parts, followed with either milling and/or laser adding. Amazing future ahead. Adding laser cutting could reduce tool wear big time...potentially.

You could possibly make those keys using lost-wax processes, and depending on the individual features, it may involve high-pressure injection. However it would be as expensive if not more to make it that way. Now if they made it from different deposited materials, I can't see any other way of getting there.

No you don't, dmg's lasertec program and profdia interface handle all of your g code programming based off of a DXF file or an STL model. If you had two write all of that programming this would be very counterproductive.

I did a research paper on spray welding in my shop class and I was kinda disappointed to hear that it doesn't create a very strong bond for repair work.. does this spray printing have the same problem? I hope it doesn't because this gave me so many ideas for my dream repair shop

Wow, I bet Koenigsegg will use one of these for his super low production count parts. That is a perfect machine for extremely difficult parts. I see lots of money being made with one of those. Especially in aerospace and deep marine.

You cant actually tell this. Depends strongly on which material you're talking. You are kind of restriced in terms of alloys. The are multiple technologies available and all diverse in several points. Additive is a nice addition to already existing production methods, but it is not the all curing production method.

Doesn't the metal has just as awful of a structure as cast metal? It should be fairly weak as a result...

Not really. When you cast metal, whole part goes from liquid to solid. In this proces, there are a lot of factors for cristalization (hope I spell right). Bigger crystals=weaker structure Here there are crystal no bigger as the pool that laser melted. Also, you pin-point temperature in literally every place, thus You controll crystals. Also You can slinter, but thats the other story :)
