Mike and I are back at it again metal detecting in the river. Today we explore a new location in the hopes of discovering a fording area that had been in use as a crossing for nearly 300 years. We find the old fording area with our metal detectors and uncover some great finds. We both had a lot of laughs.
About Aquachigger:
I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my RU-vid "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.
BTW, you can also catch me here, / chiggsarmy ,but I may get a little edgier there. FB isn't a place for kids anyway...lol.

That 22:00 brass hinge is also used for rules and scales related to maps or cartography. Something an officer would have had as part of his kit for planning and land navigation. It might also date to the 1812 era.

The small round item with the hole in the middle could possibly be a brass eye piece from a spyglass or a telescope. I believe most military brigades in the 1700s and 1800s would have carried these for recon and or spying on the enemy
@valiantwarrior4517
@valiantwarrior4517 Год назад
That’s interesting. Is the hole normally that small in such an instrument?
@ariblack4424
@ariblack4424 Год назад
@valiantwarrior4517 That is correct. It is a fairly small hole in the eyepiece which would have had a small lens. Especially on the draw brass models. They would have had about 3 to 4 segments you would extend depending on the model. You can Google it for some reference photos

Hello, Chigg. Been watching you for a long time. I'm wondering if the round disks with the holes through the middle could be "dress weights". Dress weights were used to be sewn into the hems of ladies' gowns to keep the fabric from flapping about in the wind. Would an officer's jacket or swallowtail coat have something similar sewn into it? I don't know; they just remind me of something that the Thames mudlarkers find now and again. Your neck of the woods is gorgeous, BTW! Take care and stay safe!
