Damn 😳 Extremely impressive. More like a cathedral than a casemate... That construction is massive. Mind-blowing the amount of engineering, material, skill and labour that would have gone into creating that monster structure!

One thumbs up is not enough for this video. This may be your crowning video. This encasement is COLOSSAL! Can you imagine how many square yards of concrete went into this structure? Absolutely amazing my friend. Can't wait for part 2. It has lasted 70 plus years so it will last another generation or 2.

0:29 a MASSIVE casemate for one of the huge coastal batteries basically inside a block of concrete, this will be here long after we are all gone. The hole in the roof above the gun pit was used to fit the canons in place. Somewhere there are photos of the huge tripods they built on the roof with the cable running down through the hold to the barrel etc. It lines up exactly with the traversing ring. After the tripod was removed a small gun then used this hole as a mount . OH I have missed part one - as Arnold Scwarzenegger says " I'LL BE BACK" couldnt find Part one or the link😔 1:59 they could make this a tourist train, put a small diesel loco here, with passenger cars extend the tracks more and make is a visitor attraction! It ASTOUNDS me how and where they got all the resources to make concrete in the most OUT OF THE WAY places. They had to bring in LIME, CEMENT, GRAVEL, BALLAST, REBAR - how??? The NOISE when they fired must have been horrendous! in that enclosed area. What a pity they go to all the measure to put steps to the roof THEN THEY CONCRETE ALL THE ROOMS SEALED?? WHY?? THAT is a spectacular tourist spot if they did something with it? Maybe a big searchlight to light it at night, exhibitions of the shells and soldiers, a real life diorama! I think with all the ammo slots, this gun fired several different types of shell, HE (high explosive) AP (armour piercing) and GS (gas shells) 9:12 They would have used the local tree branches and bushes etc woven into this steel web, seen this before. once this is done its virtually INVISIBLE from the air. I bought a drone 7 years ago but have never flown it. Would love to take it to film this for its first flight.

I live in a old mine town and when I was younger I always explored the old mine works . Very dangerous I know. But still it was awesome . They have all gone now so they are just memories one day they too will be gone but not for a long time so I really appreciate the opportunity to see them thanks so much for sharing .just awesomeness thanks

That’s a huge location. To build something that big and then never put a gun there is a mystery. Could it be the invasion started and everything here was stopped? Eagle Eyes is fearless climbing up that ladder. Magnificent architecture in the design. It’s a beautiful structure.

I live in the US and would you consider adding a general location on a map on your videos? It would be great to have a general location so that we'd have an idea and perhaps a strategic idea as to why the locations were selected? (if they are in "secret" locations, that's why I said general locations) Enjoyable videos and good for you for taking your son with you. My dad would take me places. Sometimes I would complain about going and act bored, but they are now some of my favorite childhood memories.

Wow, impressive. What a treasure for WWII history lovers like me, thank you so much for bringing this to us. In Gibraltar where I live we have an area called Casemates Square. Which were old fortifications designed to defend against Spanish invasion. But this, for a single building, is just awesome and immense. German engineering at its best.

At 9:46 when you show the front, there are steel artificial trees "growing" from the front of the structure. This was also part of the camouflaging techniques used to help hide installations like this. Any idea if they are original to this facility? During the Second World War the Boeing aircraft plant was covered with a netting which when viewed from the air made it appear to be a small rural town. The site was actually many acres of industrial buildings which birthed bombers by the hour. Great video, I envy your accessibility to history like this. If only my dad had taken that offer of four years in Wiesbaden instead of retirement after 20+ years in the military... I would have been seeing all of this stuff with 45 less years of age on it.

Thanks for your hard work researching these amazing structures, but it does make you think how many poor souls died making it.

Life expectancy is 100 years for concrete. After that, they start breaking down based on loads. So an unsupported roof might collapse, a side loaded wall will crash to the side etc.

Damn that was awesome. Can you imagine the sound of the gun going off in there. The noise would of been immense.

Do you ever find any lightning arresting rods on these bunkers? I figure they had to have something to protect the ammo in storage. I know from working on bases that where ammo, missiles in particular, are stored they have a very intricate lightning protection system. Also, that roof must have been about 5.5 meters thick or so.

I watched a show on TV and they were showing what he had built just in Norway. there were 165+ of these positions originally and more were added later. Also there were massive structures designed to launch torpedoes at incoming ships and there is also a fully functional large cannon sans firing ability. Hitler spend a massive amount of money and man power building these structures that could have been used elsewhere.
