To anyone outside California that sees this and thinks "wow I want to go to blacks and experience that" notice how many of the guys are goofy footed and it's the same pros everytime. I remember that day and it's not a whole day it's a short 2-3 hrs. It is an utter mob scene there now.

I don't know if a day like this merits the whole jump off my board to dive under the whitewater move. That's usually for serious big waves. You might get blasted for duck diving but that seems better than ditching your board with that much of a crowd. Maybe they're practicing for the bigger stuff though, I don't know, just seemed odd to watch.

Lets say there was 300 set waves from 7AM to 3PM...of those 300...how may waves went un-ridden, or got missed? Perhaps a perfect barrel and a lifetime wave, missed? I'm going to say "maybe" 10...the rest were accounted for. So respect your local break. Love and respect Mother ocean...look at what she gives us.

I watched the best big wave riding I’ve ever witnessed go down in La Jolla on the low tide, and I’ve surfed the area for over 50 years.4 locals knew the mysto spot would be firing and showed up with proper equipment. I admired a 7-6 Rusty. I doesn’t break often, but when it does... Triple overhead+ 200 yard rights with just the right steepness on the freight train wall to set up a lip ripper. There was some serious shredding and not a videographer in sight. Respect from Caveman. The son was out at Blacks in the crowd.

I was at Blacks that day !! I remember seeing this happen live 🤗 there were so many A-Frames spitting out of both sides of the barrel at the same time !! I was on a walk with my wife and 4mo baby girl .. we had the red stroller.. absolutely loved every minute watching everyone out in the water get some amazing rides 😀

But what's your best wave on the east coast? Kirra Point, right? We have our own version of it in Santa Barbara. And you don't have Mavericks. Anything comparable to it would be on your west coast.
