That is a survival kit for a life raft. Zodiac Air Cruisers, now Safran, is located in NJ. They produce life vests, evacuation slides for airplanes, and life rafts (Zodiacs) for both civilian and military purposes. They also package the survival kits to go in the life rafts.

Imagine being stuck somewhere, finding one of these, and then trying to use the flares when a plane or ship was near, only for that to happen, the heartbreak that'd occur at that moment would be immense!!! :P

The use by date is no joke. They really do go bad quickly afterward, usually they will fire off into the air but the flare wont light. Even the 12ga type flares stop working close to expiration date, super out of date flares are trash.

I remember using the iodine when I was little. It should have a plastic tube on the outside and a glass one inside. Squeeze it enough to break it and apply to wound. I think the ones you get in todays first aid kits are like a wet nap .

With those iodine ampules you have to squeeze them to break the internal chamber (kind of like a chem light) then the iodine will flow out through the gauze and the gauze will act as an applicator so you can apply the iodine to the skin.

Whoever designed the packaging needs to put more thought in it. 1) How to open the outer bags? Ziploc would be nice. And the bag could be used to store/carry water. 2) Taping the flashlights together? Inside a sealed plastic? Sheesh. I had a similar SS knife in my USAF avionics toolbox in the late 1970s. It had four blades/tools. Including punch and can opener. Got one recently via Amazon, made by Marbles. Good utility knife.

@@glenndouglas8822 Hey no kidding my best buddy did that when he was about 13 or 14. He was helping put up insulation and had a fresh box cutter blade and swung to open the insulation bag he was holding and it went right through his wrist. He immediately grabbed it and held he said he knew instantly it was really bad. His uncle drove him to the hospital and he came out ok. The Dr. said it was good it was a fresh sharp blade as the wound stayed together better. He still has a nice scar and he's 40 now. He's a professional mechanic now. Oh yeah and we are those guys you watch to see if something spontaneously erupts in flames lol

I noticed you used your knife cutting towards yourself, never do that. When I was a kid I was fascinating with Ancient Egypt, I wanted to make Papyrus, Egyptian paper, I got stems from plants and I used a Stanley Knife with a hooked blade, I started to cut towards myself but accidentally cut my wrist instead, I was a idiot them days and my mother jumped into action and stopped me bleeding to much. To this day I fear knifes and won’t use them. Obviously not dinner knives though.

I'd imagine there are so many smelling salts because a lot of people would faint in an emergency passenger plane landing. From panic, hyperventilation and changes in air pressure

The iodine vials are to help clean wounds. Squeeze the the vial while it’s in the cardboard sleeve and it will fracture. Thus saturating the other end or the cardboard tube and allowing you to apply it.

That little pocket knife is decent. Camillus made knives for the military. Ka Bar knives all the way back to ww2 also. I have a navy ww2 ka bar made by them

Iodine doesn’t spill because it’s contained in an inner casing that has to be crushed first. Like those glow bracelets.

Very cool Nathan. Held up, reasonably well. Batteries, did not survive, however, given the amount of time, to be expected. Mine barely last, A year. The gifts, just keep on coming. they have to be crushed at the cardboard tube, then press the iodine out through the gauze end, counterintuitive, but it works very well.

Those are flares. Meant to be used for signaling. I wouldn't try them out unless you're outside and in an open area, no trees or anything like that.

When I flew to Alaska a few times we had below our passenger seats a kit like that and a cold weather survival suit. It was with British Airways.

Actually you do cut towards yourself, just butt your arm against your body then if you " slip " you're hand with the knife in it isn't going anywhere and you don't get cut.

Wrong genius. All standard alkaline batteries can be thrown away in the regular trash. It even says so on Duracell and other companies websites. Shame on you for being so dense
