I get it, I know where your coming from. I always looked at Incubus as that next 20 yr generation progression of RUSH. S.C.I.E.N.C.E was progressive experiment but they still rocked it subsequent albums, mixed in with a lot of melodic mind bends, (Warning anyone?) which still made them one of all time fav bands.
This song is about taking control of your life and making it awesome. A certain shade of green in my opinion can be interpreted in a number of ways both literally and metaphorically. In a sense he's saying quit waiting for everything to be perfect and exactly as you envisioned. Seize the day now instead of making excuses. Go and live your dreams now without excuse. Quit waiting for the so called perfect situation and do what you want to do with your life before it's too late.
Seemed very self explanatory the lyrics. Certain shade of green is indeed waiting for just the right moment when by traffic light terms any green is go. Like he said when you procrastinate you choose last.
20 years ago This song led me down the path of alternative, than on to hardcore, post hardcore, metalcore and eventually deathcore. This song started it all for me!
AYVSO Sucks? I respect your opinion, but I'd like to think Morning View is a pretty good early 2000s alternative album. Incubus went from a really sick funk rock/alternative metal band, to a pretty cool alternative rock band. I'm not too keen on anything past Light Grenades (2006), but given that every album they made after Fungus Amongus varies in style/is very different from their previous albums, Morning View is different and well done in its own right :) It's more so calming and ethereal. It's a great album for a chill day.
I listened the crap out of the album this came off (S.C.I.E.N.C.E.) before they were on the radio or had any major mainstream success, and I gotta say that this is the Incubus that still moves me.
If you really like Incubus then S.C.I.E.N.C.E is not a sick album for you! I listened to all of their albums and singles. Smoking the herb again up to Promises, Promises. Incubus needs to have a walk of fame.
Andrew Russo I found out about them on make yourself hitting success but... I really have to say this is my favorite. Not all their albums stuck with me but this and make yourself were amazing for what they were meant to be
Same, a friend introduced me years before they had any radio play and I fell in love with Fungus Amongus and S.C.I.E.N.C.E. I'd never heard anything like it after 35 years of listening to other great music (yes I'm old now). They still remain one of my all time favorite bands, and have become my kids' s as well (who are now teenagers) since they've been hearing them since they were babies...
Lyrics (Fixed Version) : A certain shade of green Tell me is that what you need? All signs around They say move ahead Could someone please explain to me Your ever present lack of speed Are your muscles bound by ropes Or do crutches cloud your day My sources say the road is clear And street signs point the way You gonna stand around 'til 2012 AD? What are you waiting for? A certain shade of green I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate What are you waiting for? A certain shade of green! Would a written invitation Signed choose now or lose it all? Sedate your hesitation Or inflame and make you stall You've been raised in limitation But that glove never fit quite right The time has passed for hand me downs Choose a new Please evolve Take flight You gonna stand around 'til 2012 AD? What are you waiting for? A certain shade of green! I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate Green... What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? A written invitation? A public declaration? A private consolation? Remember when you... I think I grew a gray watching you... procrastinate! You gonna stand around 'til 2012 AD? What are you waiting for? A certain shade of green! I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for...
Did you wear metal wheel roller skates? No? Then you ain't getting old. Old enough for an AARP card and this is some of the best shit right here. When people start complaining about Brandon's voice, or being "sellouts" I remind them to come find THIS video and show some respect for where they came from. Dude's given us his ENTIRE voice playing concerts for how many years now? Deep respect right here. 🔥💗
SCIENCE is still one of my favourite albums ever. It's just amazing on every track and this is one of the best ones. I'll always have a major soft spot for New Skin since it was my first exposure to it.
Alannah Jones the slowed down version I think is their better version of this song. it sounds similarly like sevendust this way. no complaints!! I think these guys are brilliant.
Amazing. Crown booed the band before and were starting to boo Incubus but that lasted 10 seconds 😂 The place went nuts. I though everyone in there would have zero energy for the Korn set but is was pure chaos
Science is the most unique album to come out of the era. No other band made it like this jazzy nu metal. Wish they didn't change the following album. And more so go soft and weird after that.
Grew up on this shit. I remember before Incubus got huge this album was already receiving praise and recognition by many! Love these dudes. Glad to see they have evolved but this is my favorite LP hands down. Hometown heroes. I can’t really name a genre when it comes to Incubus. For those of us that grew up with them in Calabasas and Ventura County…there just Incubus. They sound like the area they came from. Word!
Saw Incubus live last night at Nottingham FM Arena, they played this for the encore. UNBELIEVABLE! Everyone was jumping around going crazy! One of the best moments ever!
@@IshiMonae This was my introduction to Incubus. Then they discovered that they could write mellower, more radio friendly music and for me, it wasn't nearly as interesting or enjoyable. Morning View was my end point. Yes, the best bands adapt and change, they don't just release the same album over and over again but I truly miss this era of Incubus. The more recent stuff doesn't move me or excite me like SCIENCE did, and still does.
@@ghendar I won’t lie I listen to this stuff & fungus more than morning view (they seem like less sneaky albums) but I am glad for them they aren’t on hyper spun doing crystal meth commercials anymore. I’ve had so many people “stand up” for this song to me before as an “anti-pot” song or something 😂. Try some weak angel dust before a rave and get back to me on what a certain shade green means.
i have written this on several incubus videos across youtube, so if the name and comment sound familiar i apologize, but i will say it again. Incubus between 1997 - 2004 ( SCIENCE, Make yourself, Morning View, and a Crow Left of the Murder, ) was their prime as a band. What came after that is still great music, everything incubus makes is gold, but this is the sound i grew to love.
2:30 when the dreadlock comes off - It reminds me of being in high school in the early 00s. My buddy had dreads, and he and some other friends ate some shrooms while out snowboarding for the day. In the lift line he bent over and picked up a small stick and thought it was one of his dreads that froze and fell off.
God-dammit I love Incubus! Loove their old stuff, they should definately do some more stuff like this, as much as i love the fact that every album they do is entirely different from the previous one, this is amazing!
Acho que o negócio nem é isso é que quando conhecem só conhecem as mais pops como Stellar ou Dig, nada contra eu amo as duas músicas pra caramba mas os álbuns antigos deles principalmente o Science é uma obra prima.
criminally underrated album, just bought a copy on vinyl as it's one of my top favorite albums of all time. Really wish they'd give like, a S.C.I.E.N.C.E. 2.0 or somethin lol just for the lawlz at this point
I have been looking for this song for 20 years. Use to have it on a mixed tape listening in my Walkman. Can’t fking believe it. Use to type in some lyrics, sing some to people, always pissed me off. Found on some random 90s playlist. Woooooooooooooooo
Man have you been missing out. This was one of the first albums I ever bought with my own money as an 11 year old and boy am I glad I did. I happened to hear New Skin on a radio program at the time that was playing "underground rock". They also happened to play another song by another band that would become a favorite as well. '97 turned out to be a pretty good year to start really delving into music as a pre-teen with Incubus and the Deftones really beginning to hone their sounds with albums like S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Around the Fur.
