might not be the most technical song out there but goddamn the vibes are incredible, takes you back to those carefree summers of the early 00s. So good.
This album is timeless. Incubus has some many good deep cut songs. Pistola, Just a Phase, Sick Sad Little world, the Warmth, Warning, privilege, nowhere fast, vitamin, certain shade of green...
The turntable is a main instrument on their album SCIENCE. That's easily my favorite album by them. I've enjoyed them ok afterward but SCIENCE is a monster.
Redefine would be a good song for you guys to react to. You would get to see the heavier more experimental side of Incubus… really any song off of SCIENCE would do the trick
This song has been playlist for me for years. Maybe the best song on the album, and everything on the album is great. It just sounds great and the lyrics are wonderful. It's happy without being sappy, lyrically honest and engaging about having a moment of peace and wanting to share it with someone you care about. Simple but perfect.
Like always great video you should listen to a lot more of their music. Some of my favorites that you should listen to are make yourself, nimble, bastard, Anna Molly, Earth to Bella, warning, pardon me , nice to know you, love hurts megalomaniac, oil and water, Pendulous thread and that’s just just to name a few.
If y’all want the prepop incubus (love ‘em both), you HAVE to listen to S.C.I.E.N.C.E. This band is musically intriguing prior to breaking through and very good once they did break through. Great pick.
If you wanna dig deep into Incubus, check out "The Warmth", "Certain Shade of Green", "New Skin", "Pardon Me", "Stellar", "Summer Romance"... hell, I could go on all day. They were one of my big favorites back in High School in the late '90's/early '00s.
Make Yourself was their breakthrough album, with the massive hit "Drive", which you had to have heard. This album was the follow up album. Several big hits on this one. Lyrically, they are an exceptional band. Check out "Stellar" or "The Warmth".
This was the first album I ever bought on release date. My mom took me to Best Buy and dropped me off at school late so I could listen throughout the day. 7th grade 😂. I think you guys would appreciate SCIENCE and Fungus Amongus. Definitely a lot heavier with jazz, funk, hip hop, and metal influences. Brandon basically was a melodic rapper in the beginning lol. Incubus is truly making genre-less music 🙌🏿
Start to finish. Morning view sessions was and still is one of my favorite music “DVDs.” I think dudes would like watching that or at least some clips.
So many good songs, but I really think you guys would love "Are You In?. It's not one of their bigger hits, but I feel like all of the elements in that song would hit all or your hot buttons... Good groove, great bass work... It's a solid deep cut.
This album is masterful. No skips at all. Brandon Boyd is masterful in his control. His voice is an instrument as much as it is a voice, and not a lot of bands can say that exact thing.
This song always hits me, while deployed in 04, they played this before every movie in the anaconda theater. It was a montage of all those we had lost to the war.
Wow, that's rough. Although it's cool that they did this for people and acknowledged the loses, instead of ignoring it and just pretending like everything is fine. That never makes anything better.
Everyone loves a luxury life but the problem most people have about luxuries are having enough money to buy one, but that won't matter if you have a stable financial life.
The wisest thing that should be on everyone mind currently should be to invest in different streams of income that doesn't depend on the govt. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in Gold, silver and digital currencies(BTC, ETH.
Pardon Me was the first song I remember by Incubus. I've liked pretty much everything they've released, and I give them extra points for naming their first album Fungus Amongus. I've literally repeated that every time I saw a mushroom thoughout my life. The Fungus Amongus.
This song, for whatever reason, makes me feel some kind of way. Puts a tear in my eye. Not sure if it's because the guy in the story is happy and I am not, or I wish I had my toes in the sand, chillin out on the beach with no stress...It's strange how some songs kinda hit you that way.
I know exactly what you mean. Like the line "I wish you were here" sounds like longing for something you don't have. Longing for a time that doesn't exist anymore. And BOOM. Just like that. You're not happy but the singer is. Lol.
Real hard to say what you should listen to. Vitamin, nebula, or a certain shade of green if old and heavy. Pardon me, the warmth, Are you in? Aqueous transmission. Sick sad little world. All great choices
I'm 61 but when this group came out I realized they are outstanding musicians, one of my favorite songs by my favorite reaction duo, nice. Nice to know you is great too
When Incubus dropped “Science” in 97 they started playing “New Skin” on WAAF in Worcester/Boston, MA and I thought it was Faith No More which was then, and is now, one of my favorite bands. That track is fantastic and is the first song that got them any significant traction. I’ve been a fan since.
I'll add to the chorus asking for "Drive." And now, it's time to stretch. Time for 311. "Down," "Come Original," "Beautiful Disaster" just for starters. Reggae meets metal meets funk meets philosophy. Then, once you've heard their take on it, go to Skindred. Metal meets Reggae and has angry sex.
Incubus had 3 albums before Morning View - the first 2 were moderately successful and had a bit of an underground following with the 2nd album having a couple of hits. Their style/sound changed quite a bit between the 2nd and 3rd album too (they were slightly more ska/punk/nu-metal imo on the first 2 albums - think early RHCP, big inspiration for Incubus). The 3rd album really catapulted them though with songs like 'Drive' and 'Pardon Me' and Morning View continued, if not elevated them even more. So many good songs on that album.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Had a lot more DJ work going on that was fantastic. Certain Shade of Green is an awesome song. I had this album on tape in high school and wore it out!
So their breakout album you could say is Make Yourself, as that had their biggest hit to date on it, titled Drive. It was their second studio album, being released two years after S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Incubus did have an album prior to S.C.I.E.N.C.E. called Fungus Among Us, but for some reason that’s not counted among their studio albums. Make Yourself also had Pardon Me and Stellar, and all these hits were way more radio-friendly than anything we’d seen from Incubus before. So it’s gotta be Make Yourself for the band’s “breakout” album. Peace.
The turntable doesn't sound bad, it's just the thing that dates it the most. You laugh first purely because you remember the era and then a second later you realize it kind of rules and that era actually had its charms
it "dates the song, huh. well, yeah...you got that right. let's you know it's made when music (rock, specifically) was actually good. i hear that shit ...... and I know I'm home! ahhhh!
This was a follow-up to "Make Yourself", which was their break out album. All the songs on "Morning View" are bangers! One of the few albums I can listen to all the way through. You could randomly point at a song and like it. Give "Drive" a listen from this album.
There are 100 tracks you would probably enjoy much more from Incubus. To name a small few: sick Sad little world, Make Yourself, Circles, Nice to Know You, Rogues, Dig, Vitamin, A Certain shade of Green, Summer Romance, The Warmth, When it Comes, Pistola, Talk Show on Mute...
I was in a cover band for 10 years until Covid hit. We covered a few Incubus songs as well as The Warmth. One of my all time favorite Incubus tracks. 🐋🔥
Glad to see you revisit Incubus. Morning view is a great album. Lots of gems on that one. I thoroughly recommend Just a phase. It's among their more unorthodox songs.
Here's the thing about incubus: you'll never be bored. They're phenomenal about trying something new and dragging you with them. I'd love to see y'all react to more.
This is one of their many great "commercial" hits, but by far my favorite Incubus album is S.C.I.E.N.C.E, every song is a banger but my favorites are "A Certain Shade of Green" "Nebula" "Deep Inside". Please check one of these songs out!
I would love to see you guys react to Aqueous Transmission from the same album. Very ethereal and soothing. Instead of guitar, Mike Einziger plays the Pipa, a Chinese stringed instrument, and is accompanied by a Japanese orchestra. One of their top 5 songs for sure.
"Make Yourself" was their polished breakthrough album, no question. But there catalogue is seriously underrated now. I recommend "The Warmth" as it has one of the best bridge sections going. But the whole album is a masterpiece.
I imagine everyone in the comments has already mentioned this, but Incubus is incredibly diverse. This album was their first one that heavily leaned into a more melodic and "pop" sound, but still having an edge. They started as a more heavy, funk rock type band then started experimenting with different sounds. A Crow Left of the Murder is where they started developing their modern sound which is a bit more progressive and having jazz elements. If Not Now, When is in my opinion their weakest album, while still having some of my favorite songs of theirs. I'm a huge Incubus fan so I'm terribly biased lol but even their "bad" material is good.
They're a consistent band of artists. Kinda like a Slayer, Rancid or DMX. Nothing they put out is bad. Maybe not as up to par with their other work, but not bad. They don't have a hard fall off period like a Metallica, Kanye or Green Day.
Incubus is one of my favorite bands of all time! This album was one of my most played during my childhood. Morning View and Make Yourself and perfect, no skips type of albums. Their newer stuff isn’t as exciting, but they haven’t put out a single bad project. even their older, more experimental type stuff is still a fun listen. Incubus really knows how to create a vibe with their music. they’re very rhythmic in their approach with the guitar and bass laying down the framework, and Brandon Boyd providing that awesome melodic touch with his incredible voice. and the way the guitarist Mike breaks away from the rhythm and incorporates those melodic runs makes him a very unique and underrated player. And DJ Killmore is instrumental in their sound, he helps create the atmosphere with his sampling and scratching. Incubus really knows how to make catchy, emotional, vibey music. and they are very well respected in the history of alternative rock. Songs y’all need to check out: “Nowhere Fast”, “When It Comes”, “Make Yourself”, “Nice To Know You”, “Have You Ever”, “Sick Sad Little World”, “Talk Shows On Mute”…I could go on forever
I think Make Yourself was Incubus' first real mainstream success, as far as albums go. They got to make music for Halo2, and Mike Einziger, the guitarist, helped write Wake me Up by Avicii, which was hugely popular. They've been consistently successful and each do a lot of stuff outside the band, which I think has contributed a lot to their stability as a band, and not having internal disagreements that eventually fracture the group. I think that Incubus is easily one of the most underrated bands, and all around, their music is some of the best. I don't think there's anywhere that their music is consistently weak.
Bruh, Incubus is the TRUTH. If you think the album is nice, they release a live session called “Morning View Sessions Concerts”. They’re sound is pretty much identical live to their studio sessions. One of those few bands that can tell a story and paint a clear picture for you to visualize mentally.
4:10 Incubus were one of the earlier, if not first Rock Bands to have a turntablist in the Band, way before Lincoln Park etc...they don't get credited enough for that. DJ Kilmore Joined In 98' and elevated their sound even more with his talent, plays keys and a few other instruments besides the Tables. (DJ Lyfe was the original).
Awesome band. I don't even think that i've even listened to all of their albums. Their ballads are beeaaauuuutiful. Southern Girl. Here In My Room. Echo is ballad-y. Super sexy. Beautiful.
I was into Incubus when this album came out and I remember not really being a fan of this song but in retrospect I think it's actually pretty good. It's a bit formulaic and of its time like you guys said but these guys definitely knew how to set a mood or vibe that was fairly unique to them. As for song recommendations, as other people have mentioned Sick Sad Little World is a good one. Circles too. I'm a huge fan of their first two albums which the band have more or less disowned. Favourite Things and Vitamin are both great songs from that era. Also if you want a song that spotlights the turntables check out Battlestar Scratchlactica.
This song has been on my playlist for years. The music is great, but especially the sentiment of the lyrics is so peaceful and positive without being cheesy. Who hasn't had a moment of peace and beauty that you didn't wish you could share with someone you cared about?
This whole record is awesome. Their previous album, "Make Yourself" was their breakout album with singles that gave them national and international attention but "Morning View" (named after the road in Calabasas, CA that the house was on where they recorded this album) carried them to new heights.
They have a lot of heavier grooves and songs as a whole. I love this song and Dig, but you should try out something from their other side as well. Circles or Pardon Me. I really love the song Make Yourself also, and that album is their best along with Morning View in my opinion. Cheers
Scratching was right at home in the Incubus sound. LOVE this band and Ryan will dig having their whole catalog on his playlist. After you get through the popular tunes, go for some deep cuts like Sick Sad Little World and Pendulous Threads.
I'm not a big Incubus fan but they are such a nostalgic band for me & I have a soft spot for them. I was at uni when this came out & there was a girl I really liked & this song always made me think of her but she didn't like me so it was a really emotive song for me. Although on reflection she clearly had good taste lol.
Yes! Finally more Incubus! Many cool hits to check. You guys must do the "Science" and the "a crowd left of the murder" albums. My suggestion is "megalomaniac". Keep it up!
Pardon Me, Stellar, and Drive will be pretty good for you to hear as well, even if you don't react to them. They were singles off the album before this one came out, which is the album that introduced me to them.
Would love to see you guys react to either stellar, warning, or talk shows on mute. These guys are on my top 5 favorite groups of all time. Incredibly talented. Much respect to you guys!
