@@beardly0121 I think so but it might’ve been taken out of context. You can tell Owen is a good grounded warrior. Big heart but knows what’s up. Apparently there are a lot of jackasses out there that are emotionally irresponsible who would make him out to be either a superhero terminator or a blood thirsty trigger happy devil. I never knew there’s controversy over what he said about the 556NATO.
Aw. I loved that comment on Garand Thumb. Largely because it was such an honest contrast to the big talk. I legitimately laughed out loud because of that honest experience. I think a lot of people don’t have any clear understanding of the stresses and kinds of decision making that most people in a more civilized world haven’t had to do. You said it very well. Context matters a ton.
@@karlmcmanus4816 RU-vid removes links in some cases and I don’t want to have any accusations of spamming. If you look up Kevin and Garand Thumb you’ll find the relevant video. It’s actually a deeply thoughtful examination of optics. In fact it taught me a few things I never knew and I’m not entirely inexperienced in the field.
You're good dude Kev. No apologies necessary. 99% of people can't even fathom the amount of violence you've been around and seen. Keep on keeping on brother ✊ - another Irishman
I could listen to you talk for days. Can't wait for the next one. I was less than a mile outside that black out. A buddy of mine stays out that way tho, and I was able to help him and his family best I could. I'll be looking into y'all's training course, soon.
Another great podcast. I'm very impressed with the way you take us through your experiences in combat and we've in and out lessons for us to learn from. Can't wait for the next one...
I've been looking forward to the Somalia episode. It was even more bizarre/interesting than expected. Good call on leaving out certain details, but where did militia guns and ammo come from? On a more basic note, where were auto maintenance materials (oil filters, etc.) sourced?
That grand thumb video was one of the best informational and helpful videos about rifles and set up and scope of use ever. I downloaded it incase the tube ever tries to delete it
Dude, I just love these. I have been working on my truck swapping out transmissions, and it just makes the whole process go by so quickly just listening to the stories. I love living next to Ft Bragg because I have so many neighbors that are military,Active and retired, and I love hearing their stories. Awesome stuff. You have definitely been through a thing or two. Much love to you all from Raeford 🤙🤙🇺🇸🇺🇸
I feel like that comment really showed the depth and wisdom of your experiences in all the years without actually saying any details because of how humble you are in every video you talk on. Awesome stuff man! Question - How is your hearing after your time in combat? I couldn’t imagine shooting without ear pro but you wouldn’t always have the luxury to stop, put something in your ears and then start shooting while already being shot at.
Too bad we can't hear the entire detailed stories from heroes like Kevin without the ignorant portion of the world chiming in. The exploits of men like this are one reason we live in a largely free society without dealing with violence daily in our towns. This generation of warrior will go down in history as being exceptionally skilled and equally level headed. Put most people in these situations and it would be a web of bad decisions compared to very few mistakes being made in the long run. The temperament of guys like Kevin is to be applauded and should be being researched for future generations. Thank you for your service sir and thank you for sharing what you can considering the current level of idiocracy in society.
I know the Garand Thumb episode and the comment you're referring to. I can't believe you received backlash for being honest. Personally, I thought it was funny. Anyways brother, you're a fascinating guy to listen to. You've got a wealth of experience and a pov that most people don't have any idea even exists. I'm a lifer, my wife is an immigrant so in some ways I listen to what you say and I just nod my head, yup, yup. Appreciate you Kevin, keep doing what you're doing. Best wishes for much success. Drop by if ever in Orlando.
You've always come across as a decent guy, who really knows his stuff. At least to me. I don't think you have to worry too much about sounding like you are trying to be a bad ass or sounding like a sociopath. I understand the reason you would worry about that. But I think there is a realness to you that is very obvious. Loving this podcast BTW
Damn I kinda wanted to hear more stories about Somalia. I understand Kevin's hesitation though. There has not been alot of stories told about living and working in that type of environment by too many military guys given how long ago that conflict was and the overall events that surround Black Hawk Down.
That conflict is essentially on going. The US still (or at least recently within the last few years) has troops there. They've been fighting Al Shabab I think? I can't remember which specific group it is but they've been there recently. Granted it's not Aidid's militia anymore but the region is still chaotic and violent.
I totally understand I worked executive protection and convoy protection back in my 20's, in my 40's now just living my life with bad knees complaining about everything stupid about wokeism.
Ohhh man I can't tell you how much I've been waiting for this episode, first one I've actually WATCHED and not just listened to. You look exactly like I expected you to btw, I think that's a compliment? Thanks for continuing to tell epic stories, fuck all those people who give you grief. In jest though, I'm sure most "negative feedback" is done from a standpoint of wanting to help, or expressing frustration, or merely thinking you were wrong... but words are hard, and it's easy to just type what your brain shits out onto a keyboard without actually considering how it's going to be interpreted by the reader. Good stuff man, keep telling your story.
Thanks for the content. I would just add that Under colonial rule Somalia saw the decline of caste-like restrictions ,and improved economic opportunity. It was the rise of Marxism that broke down the clan lineages and traditional family life, fostered divisions and led to the rise of tyrants. S. Africa is certainly not better off today. The economy is in shambles, and many are robbed of their farmland by people of different backgrounds, most of whose ancestors came into the region AFTER the Dutch/English. The biggest issue for Somalia is high birth rates. Whatever the reason (Western food aid, medical aid, Arab culture ect) the excess ends up on our shores for some reason. It needs to end before a demographic tsunami falls on us. Power outages will be the least of our worries.
Don't fault yourself, Kevin "MP5" Owens; you earned your internet nickname because you weren't boasting and you didnt sound proud. Just an honest man speaking matter of factly about something that actually happened. Besides, I heard you tell that story to Mike Glover long before I heard it on Garand Thumb.
Don’t be mad at yourself for the Garandthumb comment. Anybody with any kind of sense at all could tell that you were not boasting. You were stating facts and if a little bit of dark humor helps ease the conversation along then by god you can do that. You’ve paid your dues. Plus I’m just tired of people shitting on 5.56 😂
Honestly that comment on garland thumb isn’t a big deal. 1 it’s true 2 it was bombastic and showed some personality. When I heard that I didn’t think of you as a psycho. Those guys you killed were absolute human garbage. You were doing a job. A damn fine job at that.
