You're the best dude! totally right..its a couple of grams lighter. its like having a coin in your pocket. but i have to admit that this gold looks awesome
Man, you nailed it. I really love the geometry of indys. Ace trucks come close but not right there for me. Forged hollow indys 159 and 169 are my choice for bowl and ramp riding. Only thing I don't like about them are the stock bushings. They take some time to break in and are a little too stiff for my taste. Indys with bones bushings (I like the medium ones) are a match made in heaven. They're softer, don't need any breaking in at all and have a more progressive faster and smoother rebound. You can ride'em pretty loose without sacrificing stability at high speed. For those who are suspicious about the 1.5mm less highth of the forged base: just use a 1/8" riser or shock pad underneath and you're ok. With the standard indys I also had problems with loose axles in the past. Haven't had this with the hollows so far. Not sure if this was a random issue.
Rode the standards forever, Then changed to the hollows, now back on the standards. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it... something about the originals I love.
I did the same exact thing....the hollow ones are hella light but flip tricks flip wierd and all over the place with hollows and its a lot less of a solid feel when landing tricksl with hollows... So i went back to the standards as well its something about that hole through the axel that makes it flick wierd ....i miss when all standard trucks use to be lighter like they did back in the early 2000s ....its like the standard trucks back then were basically hollowed in the inside with with less truck material or just a lighter truck material they were using ina way without the hole going through the axel.....but around 2010 truck companies wanted to make trucks stronger and ended up using more heavier truck material ....but its like they ended up coming full circle with when started making hollows ina way...when they should've just kept they standard lighter truck material they had back in the day instead of just repeating it with the weird flipping hollows
my 159 titanium indy's were lighter than my 149 hollows. I don't recall the exact amount of ounces, but when you consider it's a size up and lighter, it's a pretty big difference.
636f I don't think so.. I don't care enough to take mine of the board but I did before and it was small.. Someone will come on here with the data. It's on the web.. Lol I'm just too lazy and eating dinner.. Lol
Prodigal Sun I wonder if the threads on the Ti axles are gonna last more, should right? I haven't skated mine yet, I just set them up! I bought them because they looked cool haha glossy blacks lol also I needed 149's so what the hell!
The Indy standard Hollow are my favorite. I didn't think I would like the Chinese bushings the orange ones especially on the natural unfinished trucks they're a little bit oily from the release agent I guess and they seem like they're going to be too soft but they're actually really nice like that. I tighten the Muppet first but once they broke in I could loosen them back up a little bit
I have the Koston hollows and some sets of standards. I'm currently using the Koston hollows on one setup and standard red base Thrasher Magazine on one of my other setups. Both are awesome!
Thanks bud, really helpful review. Made my buying choice very simple for me. Sometimes skaters in skateshops don't know the difference themselves. Appreciate the video you did. Thanks bud, really helpful review.
Thanks. Deciding between a set of hollows and titaniums delivered right now. Hollows w/ bolts - $55 delivered. Titaniums w/ bolts $85 delivered. Total of 36 grams difference for both (about 5%). Close to $1 per gram. I'm old and just having fun. I'm going with the hollows. If I was trying crazy tricks maybe I'd spring for the best of the best. But, I'm setting aside that extra $30 towards a JM Duran Slidewinder flight deck by Powell. 8.88" x 34.7" sturdy deck is something this old heavy guy can use.
@@sk8_bort Thanks, already got the hollows. I have an old set of solid Indys on a cruising deck. If I mess up the hollows, I'll grab them. Yes, I'm heavy and old. And falling hurts. I'll be the old guy wearing downhill gloves to do simple stuff / small park riding from here on out. I'm sick of smashing my palms and wrists.
Bro I love your review on this. I very nearly went and bought the titanium. Gonna stick with the hollow. Got the bones Swiss and the dragon 🐉 54mm’s stay Rad man!
So this came up in my feed three years later. I used to think that not only did I prefer a lighter truck but also a lower one. I really dug some 50mm high Thunder Hollow Lights. I used to think they helped me get an easier pop. But I’m starting to revise that. It seems that even with the extra weight of the Standard Stage 11 Indie the little extra height seems to make for a better pop. Skated my Thunders yesterday and they didn’t feel as good as I remember them. I don’t know if my timing was off but I’ve definitely been feeling better on Indies lately. Haven’t got any Hollows or Titaniums but will definitely give them a look once I need a new set of trucks.
I just got a girl twin pop secret with Indy s11 hollow Delfina with pig risers and tablet spitfire wheels for first deck 2 weeks ago haven’t skated in 20 years and I’m loving it. Today my birthday so I went out and got the heroin razor egg symmetrical 9.5 with standard Indy 169 with 56mm Nora purple slime ball wheels. I am loving this setup can’t wait to skate it. Oh both have bones red bearings. Except I got Indy spaces in my new deck need to get some for my other deck but I think I’m gonna switch to the egg deck. Also got some snot teal rails on the egg shape so cool. Like a mix between old school 80s deck and new school. Although I am now 40 and skating is rough pulling muscles every time I go I am loving it. Haven’t been this happy in a long time. Hoping my body will get use to it. Skate or Die😊😊
If I have a narrower truck, I like them to be from the heavier side and wider trucks can be lighter. I feel like there is no control with light and narrow trucks. I didn't like my 8.25 Tensor mag lights, but I would give them another chance if they made 9' ones.
Good call - I got my Grant Taylor 159 hollows for the same price as regular 159s - blue forged baseplates - there are some killer deals out there even on the 215s!
Nice conclusion. I'll add that I messed around with Ace 55, and 66; but when the smug support person at Ace told me the duro on their stock bushings is proprietary, and I was the only person that had ever said that the stock were too tight, I decided f' Ace...
I ride all three on different setup's :) I think the standards gets more axle slip, but I dunno - I get axle slips on Krux's too, I guess it's just my thing
omg...that's sooo funny bro I do the same set up hollow indys with bones bushings ....🤟🤟🤟🤟 when I saw the trucks on the table I took notice and thought they might be bones bushings...rock on brother 🐢🐢
The forged titanium and forged hollow are a tad bit lower than Standards. They are in between a mid and a high. Indy Mids are 52mm tall, Standard Indys are 55mm tall. The forged T's and H's are 53.5mm tall. So I wouldn't say there's absolutely no reason to ride the old school standards...
What durometer Bones bushing do you use in those? I have the titaniums too, and the stock bushing just plain suck. Krux bushings same thing. But my opinion they aren't worth shelling out the extra cash for. Love your channel. Keep it up!
Hard bones bushings work best for me in my Indy trucks.. In skating at about 215 pounds and I'm pretty heavy on the controls.. Thanks for watching the videos 🤘
ive been on the forged hollows for years but i grinded my yoke down now i cant tighten them anymore just wanteed to see if the titaniums are actually worth it ill probably stick with what i have
Hey, so i got the Bones bushings (hard) and have found them to be squeaky. Is this part if the break-in process with these? The orange bushings that came with these Forged Hollows were never squeaky but they're soft and turny and slice up easily Was expecting a harder, less turny bushing with these, but maybe i need to break-in/work out the squeaks and tighten my trucks more? How far do you tighten yours? I am just a bit past flush (tighter) and they're pretty squeaky and still pretty loose.
+surfercrow I'm a good couple of millimeters past flush. Just tighten them until till they feel good. Me personally I never care enough about the squeak to do anything about it. But I do have a friend that uses candle wax or skate wax on bushings and pivot cups if needed. I definitely crank the bolts down ... Lol Let me know how it goes. I like these kind of comments..
Thanks for the reply.Ok, well "squeaky" was not the right word...The Bones bushings, inevitably make a "pop" sound each time weight is put to tilt hanger to each side, everytime. I tried lubrication, pivot cup, bushing against baseplate, everything! Tight, loose, it'salways there. I even tried using boardside cup washer that came with trucks. I put orange indie bushings back on. I give up with Bones bushings. I'm a carver surf-skate style rider, anyway, so the orange ones seem to work for now, dead silent, no annoying pop - at least until i can find another brand that works for me. I think a barrel shaped bushing, boardside, is key for me...
surfercrow not sure about popping I've never heard that we've got about 8 sets of trucks with bones. Hmmm. Well what matters most is what your comfortable on.
Yeah, so weird. Followed directions exactly from Bones box. Brand new Indie Forged Hollow trucks... lean left:"pop", lean right: "pop" ..It's a mystery. Oh well, at least i can use the orange indie ones for now,
Great video! I will be getting the forged hollow on my next set up, one day. What is your friend John’s channel? I would definitely check it out. Thanks
@@manuelarellano32 lol, I ride to many on metal coping... It will take forever.. I'll give you this for 9" and larger brands. I think Indy ride the best, Ace grind the best, and Gullwing are best straight out of the box requiring no real break it. That if you only skate bowls and you are beginner to intermediate skater.. I'll give street skating to thunder but that the under 9" group.. Lol my opinion
Prodigal Sun you know what im getting a size 9 deck with 169 indys and i skate street but im trying to learn tranny and so far i learn alot from your videos and honestly thunders are like a soft metal
I've been rocking Indy's since 1979 , the 159/169s RULE ☝️ I think I have each and every 159/169 stages 1-11 and they're totally WORTH it 🤘 plus they have a lifetime warranty to boot 💥😎👍 Plus in this day and age we aren't the "broke 13 year olds" anymore 😏💸💥
So sick, love that you're into the bigger sizes too. It's where Indy's feel best and seem to shine brighter in every way if ya ride em loose like myself.
Can someone help me out with this size I have and tell me if this is a good setup or not. I'm a old school skater in the 80's and alot has changed through the years of sizes and stuff so I wanna make sure i'm getting the correct size before buying. Ok the deck is a 9.625 - 31.8 and the trucks are the Independent 169 new stage 10.5 forged titanium. Also what size wheels any brand will I need and I like my wheels hard to 101a for sliding? I just want something correct where I can skate street only and with good fast speed that's all.
Set up sound good, I like a bigger wheel like 58mm - 60mm.. When you say skate street does that mean not transition but street plaza at a park? If I'm buying wheels too skate in the actual street I would want a softer when like 90@.' 👍
Thanks for writing back and that helps alot especially on the trucks part. I use to skate the original Independent trucks but I wanted to test out something lighter weight since that board might be heavy as I remember. The deck is Almost Rodney Mullen poker deck with slick on it and back in the 90's I had the pool table version of it. Well since I live in Kentucky there ain't that many sidewalks as Cali, LA has and that's where I was born at so since we have a skate park I go there but I prefer streets like main roads and parking lots. Ok i'll check those sizes in wheels and see how big they are and say I wanted to go smaller in wheels then what would be the small size limit. I like big wheels but not to big and I like power sliding alot so I don't remember if I had hard or soft back then. Can you list a few good wheel brands that will go nicely for this setup?
I won't go less than 56mm.. Rocks in the road can be a issue with small wheels. And smaller wheels aren't any better.. The 90s were weird times.. Lol huge pants and tiny wheels.. Good luck 👍
Yeah that's true about the rocks in the road being a issue and I remember having a small size in the 90's and back then I thought they were cute looking. lol :) You never told me which wheel brands are good with my setup and do you think Spitfire, Bones, or Oj'll are good? I miss the 80's and I started at age 5 or 6 years old so all I know is the old school tricks and I stop skating at age 20 I think so now i'm trying to get back at it for fun and exercising so i'm not trying to do anything wild. I'm 42 now so my back and knees do like to act up at times but I do miss being free on my board and going fast. :)
@@FrostyMikeGaming keep it up and your body will feel younger.. You just stopped acting young when you quit skating.. Lol If you want a smaller size when I do like ricta clouds I ride the 56mm 92a great fort street and tricks. If they made a larger wheel I'd be more stoked.. I think Rainskate has some great choices. Also Speedlab .. It's really size and hardness they all make a version get what looks cool to you.. Bones g slides?? I don't know???? Lots of guys that start back ride them. Just skate, don't focus on injuries and your body will adapt..
I prefer the ugly, thick baseplate bc I don't like risers and they turn better at 55mm high bc I also like bigger wheels 53-55mm. They're stronger and cheaper too!
Why not RU-vid how to anodize your trucks at home 🤘😎👌 plus I just bought a DOZEN Indy replacement baseplates online for like $5.95 each with free shipping 😏💸✌️
bravetherainbow I've been riding Indy, Ace, thunder and gull wing.. So if I know your style of skating, ramp, bowl, street, cruising. How right you use to ride I may be able to give you a good opinion.
I don't actually know how tight I like the trucks but basically I like doing flip tricks and I skate parks most of the time. I haven't skated in a long time so to be honest I don't want to pigeonhole myself too much because I might feel like changing it up I guess. Mostly I've been looking at Indy and Thunder trucks.
is hollow axles and kingpins really that much of a game changer? Forged baseplates (which are made in frikin China by the way) and titanium really gonna lighten your board and make you that much better? cmon. You people way overthink this shit. Stick with original Independent Trucks and put the gimmicks down already. Indy is marketing this crap to you so they can get away with making them in China and saving face by saying you can still get all american original indys. Thats the truth. these are the facts.
