@@shankarnath i am very much confused to choose in between midcap (150 or momentum 50 or quality 50) or largemidcap250 or multicap 50:25:25. Please help me to short list if possible at all.
Absolutely the best video ever to learn about different types of index funds, it's purpose, long term returns, negative sides etc.. Thank you very much putting up this best visual representations as well.
Thank you Shankar ji. Very nice compilation. I am happy to see that four Index fund category where I am investing after my own research is in your IPL Index team. Way to go
Most welcome. It took me a long time to compile all of these. You can get more data in another related video on my channel -- the thumbnail reads Smart Beta
Shankar First and foremost thanks a million for making this video 🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼😊 You have probably invested more than 16 hours researching and putting together this 16 min video 🙏🏼 If we really want to make the best of it, we should watch this 3-4 times and pause maybe 20 times. But well worth the effort. 👌🏼👌🏼 Guys if you want to take a shortcut, go to 15:50 mins, take a screenshot and go and invest in the IPL stars. Trust Shankar's research and reasoning and you can't go wrong over a long period of time. All the best. Happy Investing 👍🏼
Shankar sir . This is one of the most precious high intensity content i have ever come accross in almost 12 years of investing journey. Once again thanks for compiling such a vast topic into a very simple to understand explanation. I can understand the efforts behind it as me being an Engineering Professor.
Superb excellent video. Very good information for mutual funds investment. This one video is enough to understand total mutual fund industry. Thank you sir.
As a creator, I have multiple choices. RU-vid, newsletter, courses, community, Instagram, smallcase, workshops, webinars etc. I'm working on basis a hierarchy of activities that is alignment to what I want to achieve. A Hindi YT channel is a bit down the pecking order
So many boundaries and sixes as usual. Well done Shankar. Pleasently surprised to see so many indices. Wondering if we still need active investing or even direct stock exposure..!? Thanks to you and your team again for yet another high quality content.🎉
What a comprehensive video with more than 10 tables and charts, thats what we love about your videos. Amazing work mr Nath. the analogy to cater all types of index and its funds , and their relative performance comparison gave quite an idea on largely. Although i wouldn't mind if u mix a low voltality fund just to have a defensive mix in ur ipl team ;). I was surprised to see how Quality is often beaten or matched by low voltality in long runs, Btw motilal oswal nifty factor presentaiton is also quite detailed telling us probability and all year data for all types of factors.
Thank you for your suggestion. My IPL team is built around my comfort and taking a larger portfolio approach in mind -- but please feel free to mix & match the schemes in the way you deem proper. Investing is a personal judgment -- afterall, when two people buy and sell a stock at the same time, there's a difference in outlook
Hi Shankar, After listening all so called fin fluencers. You are the only one whom i follow now. Watching your 1 video for any topic is 100 times better than watching other so called fin fluencers 100 videos.
Excellent video. What would you say should be the weightage between these 11 funds? Let's assume a monthly SIP of around 2L? Should we also consider SIP + Lumpsum?
Thanks! 1. I would assign a weightage for my core portfolio in line with my 3x3 grid that I discussed in the previous video + I'll divert some indices to my satellite portfolio 2. Yes, SIP+Lumpsum should be used .. it ups performance and increases absolute wealth.
@@shankarnathhow would one best decide the right lumpsum amount, given current market highs. Or should we do the traditional lumpsum investment in liquid or arbitrage funds and do STP to this portfolio
What a sensational video! The amount of time and effort it must have taken to research and put this together is truly mind boggling. You’re providing such a valuable service by making this content freely available. Thank you so much!
Hi sir, u have really put a lot of efforts in making this video.. Can u pls tell why were the rolling returns of beta/factor funds weren't compared.,i know they are relatively new..but the rolling returns of beta indices could have been compared..for the shortest possible time period,3 yr rolling atleast.. Can u pls tell me where can i find this.. Thank you.
Hello Mr. Rao, thanks again! A request -- I really don't need this super thanks money. May I request you to offer it to a younger upcoming creator whose work you admire. It's like you & me paying it forward, I'll very much like it that way.
Just saying Thanks isn't enough for the good work you do by sharing your knowledge and teaching us to manage our finances/money and helping us to pick up the right funds. May God bless you and keep up the good work brother! 🙏
sir - kindly share video for making the portfolio useing the Index + flexi + midcap + smallcap for lumpsum investor, which will give the overall return of 18% for long term of 10-12 years ....... thank u
Thank you so much for this great video Shankar. You are ONE STOP SOLUTION for the investors. For the strategy funds, could you help with data comparison between Nifty small cap 250 Momentum Quality 100 VS Nifty small cap 250 Quality 50?
Sir, Your videos are so informative. I have learned a lot from your videos. I am currently keeping my core portfolios as momentum and value. An actively managed momentum fund and a index nifty 500 value 50 fund make a big portion of my portfolio. I made this decision after understanding the basics from your videos. Do you think it is wise to keep an actively managed momentum fund vs the index momentum fund? In your opinion, is an index value fund better than an active value fund? Is there any reason for picking Nifty 200 momentum 30 instead of Nifty Midcap 150 momentum 50? Can you please explain the rationale behind that? Thankyou so much. Please keep making such educational videos.
I'm glad you are finding my videos useful. With re: your queries: 1. I don't know, I have never analysed an actively managed momentum fund 2. I don't know, never analysed 3. Yes, as I was picking index funds I was also looking at the conformity to the 3x3 grid (size & style) I explained in the previous video on Building a Strong Investment Portfolio
Thank you very much. Truly appreciate the effort you have been putting in each and every of your videos/articles. I am currently doing SIP in below Factor Funds 1) 35% in Alpha Low Volatility 30 2) 45% in Midcap Momentum 50. 3) 20% in 500 Value 50 Planning to stay invested atleast for 15 years😊
I am glad youtube recommended this video at the right time as i am researching different index funds and their performance. You helped me a lot, and now it's easy for m to take decision based on your ipl team.. thank you very much again ..
Sir, This video is a game-changer! Disaster for Active Funds..HAHA! Your investment tips and videos as guidance have already positively impacted me.. I also tried for the FLAME university craft course but I couldn't get through but For me, you are like Prof. Sanjay Bakshi..I would love to get an opportunity to meet you for a detailed discussion or brainstorming session. I believe it would be incredibly valuable to learn from you directly and discuss some ideas in depth. Thank you so much..Keep up the fantastic work, you're truly helping so many people achieve financial freedom! _/\_
Thank you very much. I am glad you found the video informative. A couple points from your comment: 1. Actively managed funds do better in some areas while indices are superior in others. As an investor, I'll never say one is better than the other. For me, it's about picking the best option (active or index) across my 3x3 grid / portfolio 2. Professor Bakshi taught me investing so if the FLAME uni course was a bit overwhelming then .. ab kya kahen
@@shankarnath Thank you so much for the clarification, sir. But I didn’t get a “3x3 grid/ portfolio“..Is there any reference video for that? If it’s there can you please share it with me so I can get a holistic idea while investing or making my portfolio. Thank you!
Superb way to present with data Mr shankar .I was actually reading mutual funds by Monika halan where she too emphasizes on index funds for passive investors....I am happy to be getting this great video at the right time.......Thank you 👏👏
Hi Shankar ji, you have solved one of my long term index investing portfolio puzzle today through this superb video. Actually I’m in the process of diversifying my active equity mutual fund portfolio towards index funds too. Could you tell me if it is justifiable to have a 1) Nifty 50 Index fund 2) Nifty Next 50 Index fund and 3) Nifty Midcap 150 Index fund after having an active Flexi Cap fund that mirrors Nifty 500 and has been consistent enough to bear the index since the last 4 years of my investment? I’m just worried about the rising and already humoungous AUM built up in that active fund that may dampen the returns over 10 year period? Anyways, you have been a great finance educator and I’m blessed to be a subscriber of your YT channel. Thanks a lot. Any advice on my query would be highly appreciated. 🙏
Thank you very much. Yes, I very much identify myself as an educator .. and in that context, I don't offer advice/consultation on an individual basis. May I request you to work with a financial advisor on specific queries
Geart Content Consistently. You are super bro. I was planning just to make index funds based portfolios. This info will help. Can you also guide on how to invest large sum of money like 1Cr in markets and in how much time based on current valuations. Thank you again
Thank you! Since your corpus is large, please consider working with a financial advisor who'll assist you with the various instruments, tenure, bucketing, schemes etc.
This video was very much useful for me to start investment in index fund... Thank you so much for this video 👍👍👍... I have been searching in which index fund can i invest... After watching this video I had an idea where can i invest...
It would be a really great video if you can compare all the investing strategies you have previously made videos on and find the best one for different people.
This is a great run up on Index Mutual Funds. You have great knowledge, do awesome research and have a knack on teaching; what i really love about your style is the way you teach us to fish! Thank You! 🙏
Most welcome. There's a feature on RU-vid for 10+ years which allows individuals to hide subtitles. I use it all the time, it shows up as CC in RU-vid .. CC meaning closed captions
Thanks a lot Shankar, This has video has saved me from losing money. I have started doing SIP for Small Cap Fund since this year, due to it's returns. But the numbers and indexes you shared in this video has broadened my choices. I will probably go with a strategy based index. Thanks Again, Hope your channel grows and sees massive success!
Excellent content! Also, one of the brilliant things done in this video is to showcase "rolling" returns because like you said - all the returns will appear overstated due to the current run-up in the market Please keep up the great work!
I am not sure how many lives you are transforming with your analysis and content... Love every videos of yours Nowadays eagerly waiting for your newsletters and videos somewhat like a blind cult... Thanks a zillion 🙏
Luv from chennai, thank you sir. your Momentum fund videos and this video are eye opening for me. Already I took good enough position in momentum funds for the future of my son, he is 1 year old. this video is enough that we can comfortably beat all active funds in market by paying less expense ratio to this funda.
good morning brother.. best thing in ur videos u have covered from extremely complicated topics with lot of numbers n analysis To simple but extremely useful simple but power packed video s like this..very useful to professional like who can't do lot of home work...thank u
Sir have started seeing your post recently I am truly impressed by the way you explain financial market in un biased way ….people like you are required to guide the common man so they can truly benefit from such videos and can try to uplift themself and family from the so called rat race
Sir i have watch every video on momentum and indexes of you But please can you research the SIP returns for stratagy indices because I have searched a lot but not able to analyze
Since these are index funds, may I know what are looking for when differentiating between one fund house with another? I ask so because I've never been able to figure this out & hence, I really don't bother.
Love to hear you and the way you present the investment thesis. I asked my Kids to watch your videos for knowledge, fun and the way you present information. You are Genius and motivation for youngsters and investors who are long term
Dear Shankar ji. Once again, an excellent video in easy-to-understand terms. Thank you. 😃 I had one question. Has this IPL team of funds been back tested and if so, could you please share some insights and results of the same. Say over a 5 year period or a 10 year period. 😃
Most welcome. No, I have not tested these 11 schemes in terms of annual/rolling/SIP returns. The 11 schemes is only a preference list based on my goals & thought-process .. certainly not a recommendation. I too have only 4 indices from this list where I invest regularly (the rest 4 or 5 schemes are actively-managed ones). The idea of this video was to give viewers a comparison point to understand and evaluate different indices.
👌👌👌👌👌Investing in strategy based Index Fund in Midcap & Smallacap is better than Investing in Actively Managed Funds!!! Sir, Where do we get the historical data of Strategy based Index Funds?
As always, fantastic videp. Goldmine of information capsuled in 15 min. As a good class, we students need to take notes and do assignments to make use of it. Thanks, Shankar. 😊
Amazing video Shankar Nath. Thank you so much for the insights. Would you recommend considering the ETFs of these Indices to invest? Especially the factor based ones like MIDSMALL, SMALLCAP, ALPHA and so on.
Shankar ji, I really love your videos! Nobody goes through investments in such detail. Based on all the index funds that you've spoken about, is there still scope to go with Actively managed Mutual Funds? Though some Fund Managers are beating the benchmarks, will that sustain?
Glad you like my work. Apologies, it's difficult to predict the future -- which is why I focus more on building a portfolio with different investing styles & methodologies. Plus I don't make a distinction between active & passive investing styles -- I am only interested in those funds which can help me do the maximum with my portfolio. This has helped me immensely over the past 9-10 years
@@shankarnath Thank you so much Shakar ji! I look forward to your next video. Thanks to your guidance, I have narrowed down the index funds that I want to invest in :)
I have said it many times - will say it again - he is the best - excellent knowledge, no fanfare, very down to earth presentation and to the point - the name is S.H.A.N.K.A.R.N.A.T.H! He is Awesome - I started investing in factor based index only after watching one of his earlier videos - a few months back on the topic of factor based investing
Hi Shankar, Informative video, I have a query, in selecting momentum fund in your team why have you picked Nifty 200 Momentum 30 against Nifty Midcap 150 momentum 50 fund even though the later has performed better historically? Pls share your thoughts
Thanks! Let's go back to the IPL team. If from 40 players in my draft, the top 7 batsman are all openers. Would I pick all 7 and slot them as openers, middle orders or finished? Maybe not. I used the same logic here. If I need large caps in my portfolio, I'll prefer N200M30 rather than NM150M50. My objective is not to pick the best funds that have performed well in past (if I do that, then per the last 3 year data I'll have only smallcaps) .. my objective is to build the best portfolio per my comfort & requirements.
@@shankarnath Gotcha. I was comparing the two momentum funds as single Category...while they are 2 separate sub categories ..Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊
Hello Shankar, First of all I thank you for such great work and efforts which you put forth for us...My queries are that : In investing I thought of like Nifty 50 would earn CAGR of 12% over 5-10 years and for earning alpha I would go for direct equity route as satellite mode. Further will have 40% Debt part in form of FDs and G-Secs. But you have brought all together new dimension...Should I go for other Index funds mentioned here and build portfolio from these 11 index funds or add ETFs as discussed in your previous video. Please Guide and give us simple strategy.
Most welcome, I am glad you liked it. You are not me -- so why go for my options? Plus I'm not going to be dropping messages on when to buy more, when to book partial profits etc. The idea of this video was to plant a seed (like Chris Nolan's Inception) .. now please do your research on top of this and see what works best for you. Infact, I myself don't have all 11 indices .. I am invested in just 5 of them. Why? Well, when choosing funds, your existing portfolio is an important factor as you want to everything to come together perfectly. In my case too, I have existing schemes and everything can't be about "starting from scratch" .. we have to work best with what we have .. we can't wipe the slate clean everytime. Hope this helps give a perspective .. now that the foundation is there .. please research & build consensus in your own head.
