Context:- PM attended 22nd SCO summit/ Samarkand Declaration AIMS & OBJECTIVE OF SCO 1.Sco is a multi faceted group- security, economic( Trade inv), Defence 2. Not directed against any 3rd party. 3. It highlights the policy of "MULTI ALIGNMENT" Treaty on long term Neighbourliness, Friendship and cooperation of SCO member State:- * Signed before 15yrs and still applicable today. *Comprehensive plan 2023-2027 to implement this treaty. * Spillover of terrorism in Centra Asia should be stopped with the cooperation of SCO. RATS:- Regional Anti terror Structure It is a body under SCO to eliminate terrorism. Challenges:- * China and Pakistan defend the agenda of the group by not supporting India against terrorism. Ex:- Sajid mir global terriost, China veto:- NO * Terror safe havens, Sleeper cells and Terror Fundings.

Answer to the Mains qus: Intro: Structure of SCO- member countries and its associated organization such as RATS. Objectives of SCO- counter terrorism, peaceful resolution of disputes, security maintenance, mutual respect for each others sovereignty.. Body: Challenges: border disputes, cross border organized crime, vulnerability of erstwhile Soviet Republics towards increasing aggression of Russia which is weakening the body, Neo colonialism and unsustainable financing in the region. Positives of SCO for India: better connectivity to the central Asia, counter to the developed world by bringing together the developing countries, better understanding between India and other member countries, Security in the region, counter terrorism using RATS, inclusive development of the region. Conclusion: Opportunity for India to enhance its connectivity with the region on all fronts. Implementation of Panchsheel Principles.

Sanghai cooperation organisation, asain multilateral body that consist of major asian nations ( ind pak russia china kajak kryg tajaki unzeb and recntly iran estb in 2001 hq beijing) that was established in order greater regional connectivity bw south asain and central asain countries i,e, in term of economic political culturally and anti terrorism. sco came up with idea of sco rats that was proposed against anti terrorism but so far it is not able to fulfill its asprations recentally china goverment veto against sajid mir in security council. somehow institution will lose its faith with regard to other nation.. one more concern due to territorial dispute major countries like ind nd pak absent frm meeting. so if we want that sco work as big trade block or anti terror agency then we have to come out this mentality that promotes politics over accountabity....

Aims of SCO 1) RATS to counter terrorism separatism extremists in regional nd global level. 2)SCO ENERGY CLUB to have deeper connection between energy producing nd consumers. 3)Sco helps to curb the effect caused by regional issue like Afghanistan nd Iran too. Relevance 1) sco act as platform to advance its connect central Asia policy. 2)use of RATS to counter terrorism by intelligence sharing nd weapon advancement. 3)help to set a platform to negotiate with pak in a bilateral way. 4) access to larger market base. 5) sco energy club helps to connect india to energy producing countries to secure its energy needs. Drawback 1)Domination by China. 2) difference in opinion abt terrorism with respect to other countries 3)india plays a less role in eurasian- Central Asia geo politics.

SCO plays an major role in maintenance of peace and tranquility in the region especially with India and China when there is constantly disputes with china on the border SCO provides an platform where both the nation's can come together and make the way for future, at the same time china has to not make SCO look like another group by taking diametrically opposite stand at UN and SCO in matters of Terrorism.
