Most of my collection is packed, because I don't want the cars to be ruined by moisture and air. There are some cars I really feel like opening however, so for those I buy 2 pieces - One to open and one to keep packed.
Part of the love in this hobby is also for the design you see on the packaging, called the card art. Some cars are collected for their cool card art too, not just the car, so that's another reason why many collectors would keep the packaging intact. Something you could consider as well.
