In a landmark achievement for not just the Indian space programme but humanity's efforts to explore the cosmos, Chandrayaan-3 has landed on the lunar south pole.
The spacecraft's lander deployed a rover that will spend two weeks gathering rock samples, images, and data.

Big congratulations are in order but we need to stop saying the the lander is "on the south pole". It is in the southern polar region, actually 600km from the pole at 66.9 deg S 32.3 deg E. If it was on the south pole its shadow would be MUCH longer because the Moon's inclination from the ecliptic is only 5.145 degrees.

India does have an Orbiter still revolving around moon. This Orbiter was deployed in Chandrayaan 2 mission. And I have seen 3 cameras being used here. One is of the lander which shows lunar surface. Other camera shows the rover coming out of the lander. And the third camera is on the rover itself which clicked an image of the lander. So there's Orbiter, Lander and Rover.

Do u know india has more than 1600 languages, 14 religion and 28 states 9 union territory. We enjoy Over a thousand festivals in a year. We are 1.4 billion people. In such a vast country dispute happenes. I don't know wer u heard abt ethnic violence. News & social networks are not authentic now days.😊 We have democracy, & courts. We have people elected gov. We have elections every 5 years. Floods are rare when rain god takes a control. but we have built dams. Come to India to experience such a vast and vibrant democracy.🙂🙏💐

The cameras are of great quality. The problem is bandwidth. Not only is there a huge delay between there and here, but when radio signals are sent they get scrambled up by a ton of noise from space, so in order to send data there needs to be a lot redundancy and verification of each byte. That results in very low bandwidth - like being on a dialup modem from 1995. So the first images we see were sent highly compressed just so we could see something. Higher resolution images and video will come, but it will take days upon days to transmit.
