This was the first unit produced of the train set. Newer trains which are rolling out have all these issues fixed. Example fittings coming loose, ride quality have been matched on par with Europe with old tracks. Traction systems have been upgraded. Newer tracks are being laid. By 2030 this will look completely different.

Thank you for your honest comments. I think maintenance has always been an issue with indian railways. Building something is one thing, but to keep it looking clean and upgraded is a whole another story. The beat up train is an eyesore and surprised that the authorities do not have a dept to upkeep the look of the trains. But overall a great improvement from 10 years ago.

I have travelled on VB a couple of times, from Pune to Mumbai & while it felt so much better compared to other train journeys in India, its still not the 'World Class' or 'European' level that they claim. Some people complain about the food quality but I think for the price of the tickets, its very good. Things were a bit plasticky & safety standards needs more attention. I hope the next generations will have the lessons learnt & provide improvement.

Loved the video. The major issue with Indian Railways is that it must cater to both a new emerging demographic of indians who are rising in both personal economy and purchasing power, and to the economically weaker sections of society to whom trains like these are dream journeys. So to strike the right balance there is an undertaking 76 years in the making with no end in sight. But this VB trainset and the new Dedicated Freight Corridors are proving to be much needed catalysts towards infrastructural upgrades and we’re hoping that atleast by the end of the decade, india would have a foot in the door of high(er) speed railway transportation..

I think Indian Railways is fantastic and I tried Hyderabad - Tirupathi Vandhe Bharat during my recent Indian trip. The train is comfortable with a lot of leg space. The price may be high but with food and all, it just makes up. Many people complain about the train design, especially at the front but do not understand that it is built with Indian conditions in mind. People go over the railway gates, unfenced by 115000s km of track, and animal hits since over 35000 kms pass through forest reserves made them go with the not-so-awesome design. But the train is really comfortable with no shakes and quiet inside. Also, the maintenance may be an issue but they are doing well. Replacing tracks over 123000 km takes forever and a huge investment is needed. As a foreigner, I do not understand why Indians are the kind who complain about everything even when they have a non-corrupted central government working hard for their country but go with parties who give freebies. VB is very much needed for progress in such a vast country. However, with their tracks saturated to over 150-200%, they should not launch new trains but replace their existing premium trains. It gives time for people in the lower middle class and others to increase their income as the country grows.

The set you rode is one of the prototype models, that is why there were those issues. Most of these have been replaced now with production versions which are perfect. These prototypes were deployed to gain real world feedback from the people and travellers, and then implementing those changes to the mass production ones. Anyways, now Indian railways have moved onto the Vande Bharat 2, which have several improvements over this. I suggest you try it, especially the Mumbai one, that ride has some of the most beautiful scenery in India. Also, these are semi high speed trains, high speed lines are under construction with the first part being operational in 2026. It will use the Japanese Shinkansen E5 trains, but the latter high speed lines are to use the indigenously built high speed trains.

Maintenance is the issue as you said. However think of 68000 plus KM railways and more than 4000 trains run every day. I presume entire Europe with 50 plus countries put together will not have these numbers. One Minister in Centre Heads the system and almost 40000 direct employees work for the Indian Railways. The country trying privatize few trains and there are opposition. Yet every thing is online for railways, including ticket booking, Food booking, room booking, etc. Reserving tickets and arranging travel for about 6 million people a day needs a big applause..

India is still a lower middle income country. We cannot compare it to European trains as of now. Still 10-15 years of continuous growth should made it to a decent standard. However, the Vande Bharat is a massive improvement to the previous trains. With changing habits of the people and the growing middle class and a sense of sophistication within the middle class should improve the railway standards. This is a clear fact check. However, the speed improvement can only happen with track realignment and traffic decongestion which would be a longer process.

Disclaimer: the train that you rode faced a lot of hate by some people, the reason of which I am uncertain. Couple of points as a response to the shortcomings: Indian railways move far far more passengers everyday than the numbers moved by some EU countries in a whole month. So, the wear and tare is natural; however, your point is well taken. The tracks are also getting upgraded but the sheer length makes it a challenge. Meanwhile, they have built a dedicated freight corridor connecting major ports with the hinterland, which in turn will help unclog the passenger routes. Lastly, this major leap has taken place in the last four to five years without external help. The elephant is getting nimble afterall. And the fast growing middle class is bringing in the demand with a deeper pocket.

@@SiddharthRaiyani That's not a chicken on egg question. @SiddharthRaiyani
@SiddharthRaiyani Год назад
@@souhardyaroy9983 and without train with higher speed to run on, ir would have never upgraded the tracks. Whats the use of hugh investment in tracks if trains speed is not increased. @souhardyaroy9983
@souhardyaroy9983 Год назад
@@SiddharthRaiyani This should be included in the planning. Tracks should be upgraded not only for introducing new trains but also for improving the safety of the already existing trains, increasing the speed of the existing trains, reducing delays and to improve the overall quality of the ride. This is not even an argument. You may or may not introduce new trains, but you have to upgrade or at least replace the old tracks. And it is true that IR has failed to do either. You will get the details if you just google it.

This video is really well done, constructive and concise. Thanks for your effort boss. Mostly all I’ve seen from westerners is criticism of the worst kind where my response usually goes… “well pay a lot more and take a flight coz believe it or not john or britany the australian public toilets (cinemas, sydney train stations, southern cross in melbourne, perth central, universities, mcdonalds, highways, even qantas) are worse than the toilets shown here.” They literally are littered with toilet papers, clogged toilets heck even syringes and needles. But i guess these countries are the pinnacle of first world so we never see reviews of sydney, melbourne, perth, brisbane train stations delays or how gross they are everywhere from tracks to toilets.

The biggest problem with indian railway is the tracks and the train route going through thr ruler area.. Currently the total operational track of india is around roughly 63896 miles. Which is huge.. And most of them needs to be upgraded with the latest technology and system so that the track can with stand the speed of around 200-250 kmph speed. Also the tracks goes through the ruler areas where cattles usually comes on the track and sometimes they can hit by the train, That’s why the train locomotive was in that hit shape. Because the train got hit by a cattle. This train has an operation speed of 200kmph but due to tracks condition in many areas they can’t go beyound 160 kmph. Also this train was part of the 1st vande bharat train batch.. Our railway has learned a lot of things like what problem we faced in structure or parts building and now the new batches have more advance and robust structures.. Indian railway has a target of 2035 to fully modernised the indian railway… Hope you have enjoyed the train journey❤
