Well not really because Australia then went onto the win the back to back world cups in 2003 and 2007 as well as back to champions trophies in 2006 and 2009. Plus they are going to be a dominant force now too. India on the other hand have bottled so many chances to win
This series is the most spirited performance in the last 2 decades. If Ganguly had won this icc champions trophy and 2003 world cup, he could be the greatest Indian captain ever considering the quality of the opposite teams.
In the final, when India scored above 260 against newzeeland, there was chance to win it.But Indian bowlers couldn't make Chris Cairns out and he scored century. When his score was 50, he was dropped by Robin Singh(Usually Robin Singh don't make mistakes in fielding. Also, it was a difficult chance. He dived and got the ball in hand, but dropped). If that catch was taken, may be India could have won this trophy that year
I increased watching Cric after 1999 WC. Even I used to feel the same about Robin. He was not used properly but still exhibited good talent. He is the only one who made crucial partnership by same how Ganguly smashes South Africans for 6s, same way he made 75 Vs Aus in World Cup 1999 when Aus is in its peak prime under S.Waugh and having all stalwarts in their team, in that 75 he hit 10*4, 3*6 along with Ajay Jadeja 100 while Sachin miserably flopped at 0(4) in same match.
I like the jersey of both the teams. The colour combination of the Australian shirt looks very good. I like the font and the colour used to write the names on the back of the Indian shirt.
@@abhinavtripathi516 Yes i have seen he took 22 runs of Mcgrath in one over. However these are rare instances. Most of the times it was the other way around and Mcgrath got the better of him.I wish Tendulkar dominated Mcgrath more.
The shot at 3:09 of Ganguly against McGranth, the way he was hammered was very rare on those days in McGranth's prime.. apart from other 2 shots from Tendulkar.. The shot was pure disrespect against that legendary bowler 😅 McGranth was smashed all over the park by both speciall Tendulkar
McGrath badmouthed or insulted Sachin. Sachin smashed him for 3"6 before he departed. In later interview, when Sachin was asked "what if u were still not out at that 38 score", he replied "I would have continued my job" the same way.

A young Yuvraj singh debut A young zaheer khan bowling amazing yorkers. Old star sports memory Prasad hitting a 6. Sachin thrashing mcgrath. Kambli playing good strokes. Tony cozier silky voice on commentary. The african flair in crowd music. 2 decades down, thanks for bringing back so many memories. Keep up the uploads bro.
Also, Zaheer Khan was new player and he proved he deserves his position as a good bowler in Indian team when Srinath, Prasad and Agarkar were the main bowlers in Indian team
@Arjun Ghose ok, I didn't see the match with Kenya. But, in this match, when 4 wickets down against Australia(Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid and Kambli), when I saw Yuvraj as new batsman, I thought who is this new batsman.Since he was a new player, I surely thought he is going to fail against mighty Australia at that time .My only last hope was Robin Singh and tailenders. But, Yuvraj batted well with Robin Singh.Tailenders also batted well and Prasad hit 6 on last ball against Harvey and India could score 260+ runs.Things that upset me was when Robin Singh and Yuvraj Singh was batting well with good partnership, R Singh was bowled by Harvey. Also, when Yuvraj was going to his century, he was caught out by Shane Lee.And, Agarkar and Vijay Dahiya also couldn't do well. When Australia was batting, Zaheer Khan got 2 main wickets of Gilchrist and Steve Waugh.Prasad and Agarkar bowled very well.R Singh and Y Singh had good fielding.Sachin took the crucial wicket of Ponting.R Singh took his revenge by bowling Martyn out.
Esp M. Bevan runout also. Even can't underestimate S. Waugh who came later to bat, he was also fortunately out for 23 alongside B. Lee shining with bat.
This is the best series India had ever played nearing Australia and South Africa toughest teams.. unfortunately lost to New Zealand who beat Pakistan in Semis...anyway India gained momentum after this
I was in class 4 that time.. 9 years of age. Watching in old sky sports.oldy golden days those were..as a kid growing up this matched is etched in my memory forever..
This was also Yuvraj (best Indian fielder ever the one who brought a revolution to the fielding standards along with awesome Mohammad Kaif 😃) debut ODi match and this was also the day when Indian team fielding levels went from average to awesome levels . That key run out of Bevan and that flying catch of Harvey by Yuvraj wow just wow 😇🙌🏻🙌🏻
2:42 when sachin is smashing McGrath for sixes and fours commentator is saying he is using his feet to the best bowler in the world I m wondering why can’t he just say best bowler is bowling to the greatest batsmen too 😆😆
I remember watching this as a Kid, this was the new emerging Team India Under Ganguly Captaincy! Beating the World Champions Australia in an Important tournament was a Dream that most couldnt achieve! This Match had 2 Singhs 1. Robin Singh 2. The Introduction of a Rising Star and one of our BEST All-Rounders, Yuvraj Singh! Aside from Yuvraj, we also got another Talented Star from this Tournament! Zaheer Khan!
2:01 : he is using his feet to the best bowler in the world World : it’s not any he there . God of cricket Sachin 🤩🤩is using his feet to best bowler in the world
Feeling so much happy about this game which me and my brother saw live telecast when we was 10 and 11 year age old…Still in 2023 it’s so proud to saw this team.❤❤Dada ❤❤
Any match would be an opportunity for any cricketer. If said, Ganguly was unnecessarily out off a wideball played ok till then. Kambli, as losing opportunities made a good hardworking blasting 29 and would have standed to the end with an ODI 100 Vs AUS or atleast till the time Yuvraj made 84 Ind would have even posted a 300+ Target. Yuvraj had narrowly missed 4*6 all in one bounce fence reaches, and had a more 4 and a more 6 it would have been his 1st ODI 100 by the youngest Indian in a debut (I think it is 2nd odi for Yuvraj, 1st was played in whitedress and he hit a 6 also coming late to bat along with Badani). Those days I felt nervous, excited and very angry coming to know of AUS attitude and used to feel low about our Ind losing matches on tough teams. I felt like I can't believe the victory. Last ball 6 off Venkat sh Prasad also surprised me. I hated B. Lee hitting 3*6, with one among them catapulted out of the ground and broke the glass of a parked car and it took time to get the ball back. I expected such from an Indian and till now it never happened I hope. I really enjoyed timely exceptional catch by Robin, which looked like greetings a goodbye while in air and falling ground upon catching the ball (I still remember the position and replays shown in that match).... runouts that Yuvraj and Ganguly both have made in same match.
No he played later in 2001 also while Sachin was away from ODI series Vs NewZealand, when Nash took 4 wickets on us. The next match Sehwag made his 1st ODI 100 (19*4, 1*6) and on NZ smashing the same Nash in an over for (4,4,4,4,4,6). I remember Kambli played that match also along with Abhay Kuruwilla again. Maybe that was the last series to him. Later he came again on Zimbabwe in Sachin's absence I think, in that ODI Ganguly made 60(100) and Kambli hit a 6 with few 4s making a 66 on ZIM.
