There is neither an independent confirmation nor proof of it, as of now. I'm not saying we did not shoot down an F-16. Perhaps we did. But when one makes a claim that a vintage 3rd gen MiG-21 shot down a more modern 4th gen F-16, that claim needs to be backed by some evidence or an independent confirmation, else the rest of the world wouldn't believe it. As it stands, only the shooting down of our MiG-21 and our own Mi-17 helicopter are confirmed events in that aerial battle. (Not to mention that satellite photos of the "terror camp" after the Balakot strike have raised valid questions about whether our bombs missed the target as well.)

When i physically sat in the cockpit of MiG 21 for the first time in 1975 at the age of 7 at Air Force Station Hashimara ( West Bengal ) my Father said my son come let me take you to the hanger and make you sit in the cockpit of the worlds very first Super Light Fighter. A good 3rd gen aircraft in its time, which was five decades ago. Too bad IAF pilots are condemned to fly these obsolete fighter jets even now. The Abhinandan episode shows why MiG-21 should have been retired long ago.
Our aim should be to fly best light fighters of the future, not be satisfied with best light fighters of history. How many of our precious pilots have lost their lives due to mig 21 until now, if those jets had a soul they'd themselves ask to be retired so as to not tarnish their image as flying coffins.

@@arealperson641 Bruh have u seen the specs of the mig-21 bison operated by the IAF!? bec if yo have then you would have not made your comment. IAF have had many types of mig-21s over the years and the current variant called the bison is the most advanced. has israeli made countermeasure systems, glass cockpit with hotas. and has the ability to carry BVR missiles like the russian r-77 and israeili made derby missile.

Honestly speaking ab sare Mig21s ko decommission kar dena chaiye, hamare super skilled pilots ko eenka age hold back kar raha hai. Mai een jets ko criticise nahi kar raha, ye obviously apne samay me bahut strong the and even today, Indian airforce pilots ke skill ke vajah se kafi capable hain but still, the pilots deserve an upgrade.
