@@aregularperson7573 Maybe, but the problem is that India's biggest enemy, China has been streamlining its military and has been getting fully independent. India is still bringing in weapons from overseas. That and the complex logistics of different weapon systems from vehicles to even small arms would be a detriment.

That is what people say until they realize how much of this stuff has Indian equipment and even how much of so-called foreign-equipment is produced within India through license. And it is not license assembly from knock-down-kits either. India ensures even component level manufacturing of many foreign equipment within India. For example, the T-90 tank, Su-30 MKI fighter, etc. It is to the point that future upgrades of these platforms are these days being performed entirely in India. For example, except the engine, entire Super Sukhoi upgrade of Su-30 MKI is being done within India with Indian equipment (Indian AESA radar, Indian BVRAAM, Indian MAWS, Indian RWR, EW, etc).
