The history of a country is formed by logical interpretation of information obtained from various sources. For this it is important to have enough written sources as well as archaeological sources. But the problem facing the history of India is that there is no continuous historical development in the country. This situation is seen more strongly in the period from the earliest times to the Muslim invasions in the 13th century. Inscriptions that are definitively accepted to have been written before the Ashoka dynasty are also rare. he historiography of foreign sources is also limited to the era of invasion of India in the fourth century BC. Also, the Brahminism and God creationism spread throughout Indian history may have caused Indians to distance themselves from realistic history. India's territorial size is another obstacle for this. All this shows that the Indian concept of history is relatively weak. However, Indian history has been constructed by minimizing the limitless scope of literary sources through archeological sources.
රටක ඉතිහාසය ගොඩනැගෙනුයේ විවිධ මූලාශ්‍ර මගින් ලබාගත් තොරතෙු තර්කානුකූලව විවරණය කිරීමෙනි. මේ සඳහා ප්‍රමාණවත් තරම් ලිඛිත මූලාශ්‍ර සේම පුරාවිද්‍යාත්මක මූලාශ්‍රද තිබීම වැදගත් වේ. එහෙත් ඉන්දීය ඉතිහාසය මුහුණදෙන ගැටළුවක් වන්නේ එරට අඛණ්ඩ ‌‌‌‌‌ඓතිහාසික සමුප්‍රධායයක් දක්නට නොලැබීමයි. මේ තත්වය ආදිම යුගයේ සිට 13 වන සියවසේදී එල්ලවූ මුස්ලිම් ආක්‍රමණ දක්වා වූ යුගය තුළ වඩාත් ප්‍රබලව දක්නට ලැබේ. අශෝක රාංජ්‍ය සමයට පෙර ලියවුණා යැයි නිස්චිතව පිළිගත් ශිලා ලේඛනද විරළය. විදේශීය මූලාශ්‍රයන්ගේ ‌ඓතිහාසිකත්වයද කිස්තු පූර්ව හතරවන සියවසේ ඉන්දියාව ආක්‍රමණයක කළ යුගයට සීමා වී පවතී. එසේම ඉන්දියානු ඉතිහාසය පුරා පැතිරුණ බ්‍රාහ්මණ, දේව නිර්මාණවාදය යථාර්තවාදී ඉතිහාසයෙන් ඉන්දියානුවන් ඈත් කරන්නට හේතුවන්නට ඇත. ඉන්දියාවේ ‌භෞමික විශාලත්වය මේ සඳහා බාධා වූ තවත් කරුණකි. මේ සියල්ල මගින් පෙනී යන්නේ ඉතිහාසය පිළිබඳව ඉන්දියානු සංකල්පය සාපේක්ෂව දුර්වල බවයි. එසේ වුවත් සාහිත්‍ය මූලාශ්‍රයන්හි සීමා රහිත බාවය පුරාවිද්‍යා මූලාශ්‍ර මගින් අවම කරගනිමින් ඉන්දීය ඉතිහාසය ගොඩනගා තිබේ.
