Indian motorcyle came for Harley-Davidson in a big way when Polaris revived the Indian motorcycle name, Harley-Davidson was forced to make changes and they did so in a big way with the Rushmore Project. This Harley-Davidson endeavor was Rushed to market and they had to give the riders More. Rushmore was the biggest sweeping changes in Harley-Davidson motorcycle history. Harley-Davidson took some huge risks and it paid off in a big way. We all know Harley-Davidson isn't going to do anything unless they have to and with Polaris having the success with Indian motorcycle they would of loved to of had with Victory, Harley-Davidson needed to update and do it fast. Harley-Davidson slept on the success Polaris saw with Indian Motorcycle and realized real quick they needed to catch up and update the Harley-Davidson Motorcycles.

I really love all the Harley’s. My fav is the 2002 TC88(Now 95ci) FXDL. I just love getting out and ripping it. It was the first bike I ever bought brand new when I was new in the Navy so there is emotional attachment. As I’ve mentioned before 2021 RKS and 2014 CVORK are powerful and capable. I do love the modern amenities. They are just great bikes IMHO. Very versatile too. There is something about an EVO tho man. It lacks the power, performance and amenities but it sounds awesome and they just don’t die. 1988 FXSTS is cool old bike. I hope I can fully restore it to showroom condition one day soon but it still runs and ride pretty damn good. Easy to work on as well. Love them all 😂

I'm just a old codger who likes to keep my ride as simple as I can get them. My go to every day ride is a 92 Fatboy, I also have a 2016 Indian Scout 1200 that I've added some pep to and she hauls the mail down the road and is a blast on twisty roads in the mountains. Both of them shine in different ways for me. Basic, simple, no frills on my motorcycles and pick-up truck. They'll all be with me till I or they kick the bucket! Loved the video! Ride your rides and stay safe!

@kellybarnard5242 I wouldn't trade any of my Evolution powered bikes in an even exchange for a brand new Harley-Davidson EVEN if was a top of the line CVO one. Some people including myself like simplicity. These new bikes are full of gadgets and gizmos that need a computer to make it run. None of my bikes have a computer on them. Look guys how old are you? If you 60+ years old its not enough of you to keep them in business. The bagger market is around 35-60 and we want tech. As a person in I.T., I could never purchase a 40k bike with no tech, low power, and outdated styling. Sorry fellas but thats the world now. Indian came through with whats actually the new Cross country motor and fairing and slapped their name on it. Superior power, tech, suspension and it has a presence. Harley has to upgrade seeing as older harley owners keep their older bikes so none of you guys are buying a new bike, but im in the market at 51, im the market. Ill buy a bike this summer, and 4 years from now ill upgrade to another bike.

I got a 2013 Road Glide Ultra .... I was temped to wait for the Rushmore, but ultimately went with the 2013. The main reason ... I'd rather have the last year of a model that had all the bugs worked out of it than get the first year of a new design. A buddy of mine got a 2014 Rushmore Street Glide and had Harley do a stage IV on it. Less than 1 month later, the engine grenaded. The problem, the well known oil pump issue on the new designs. Harley basically had to eat the cost of a brand new Stage IV motor and they eventually got things right, but my buddy was without a bike for a long time.

My first Harley in the late '70s was what was left of a '51 Pan Head. Basically a frame, an engine, 2 wheels, a seat, and a set of handlebars, with a true suicide setup. The front exhaust pipe spigot was so chewed up, the exhaust pipe would fall off and lodge under the skid plate, lifting the front wheel off of the ground. I miss the simple, good old days.

Other than that POS OEM water pump that the MOCO used on the 2014-2016 Ultra Limiteds & Road Glide Ultras (Trike too), those were rock solid model years for the Tour bike line. The original water pump looked like something out of a 1970's JC Whitney catalogue. The M8 water pump was a strong upgrade. German Pierburg pump.

Over the winter and spring, I did a few upgrades to my 2014 SGS. I'd already done the engine way back. Still runs like a dream. Love the sound with 103hp and 116tq. Did the suspension front and back with Terry Cable shocks and a new front end dampener. Handles superb and rides great. Been wanting to change out the lighting. I had done the headlight a few years ago, but now I went LED all the way around. Next was changed the shifting linkage. It was time. And finally, put the Kuryakyn brake lever on. I like it, but it definitely took a little getting use to. I came of an '08 SG. What a huge upgrade from that. Bigger rear tire. New frame. Of course going from that 96 to a built 103 was all but life changing. I guess I got a classic now and just can't bring myself yet to say goodbye. Newer might be better, but then we're aging gracefully together. Thanks for a another great video.

Indian offered a competitive product, got into Harley's play ground. Victory was a solid product, they just didn't catch and really move Harley to do anything. Indian was the name, the rival of Harley-Davidson that many would recognize and Harley-Davidson knew they would have to improve and do better and do it fast. Polaris re-introduced Indian about as well executed as anyone could do it.

I picked up a 2016 FLHR Road King with the 103HO engine, I use to have the 1999 Evo Heritage Softail gut it wasn't big enough for me. I did the basic Stage 1 as far as intake, exhaust and tuning (FP3 w/ AT). Made a few other minor personal upgrades as well. The bike moves along and is good ride. I thought about stage II cams etc but couldn't justify the cost for 10 more hp/tq. The 103HO comes with 511s. It is billet silver and I get a lot of compliments. It's the last year of the Rushmore project, is very impressive and I feel I have a classic. Two things that stood out were the fly by wire and the hydraulic clutch. Throttle is very responsive and the clutch is a blessing. I also changed out the air shocks for Bitubos recommended by Traxxion Dynamics. It will my last bike. ----- GF - great content as usual. 👍

The M8’s lost that Harley feel and sound that grabs you by the poopa. My 02 EGS shakes violently at idle but has a stage 4 stroked 107”, my 02 Train while balanced still waggles nicely w/ a stage 4 95” and my 1993 Fatboy has a V2 from 96 which to me is the pinnacle of engines, cream puff with the best sound you ever heard from a V twin. I won’t buy any Harley that is FI or past 2002 with their bulletproof bottom ends and straight cut geared trannys.

Harley has succeeded in building an Indian. Please bring back analog gauges and loose the creased bodylines. I understand having to have the VVT and liquid cooling to satisfy the EPA, but we get the added performance with that. The potential the new engines have with stage 2 is what I've been waiting for. Finally real performance for only 50k.

In my mind 50K of performance is a Ninja H2R, 300+ horsepower with a supercharger. I guess for 50K they pack a lot into the bike with comfort and electronics on a Harley, but geez 50K that's a very nice 4 wheeled vehicle.

What is your option on the old Buell's and the new come back?
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 21 день назад
I really honestly loved what Buell was doing with a hot Sportster engine in a pinnacle of performance chassis. We will never see anything like that again and honestly it was pretty dang cool. Eric Buell made something absolutely amazing while being held back by Harley-Davidson (If you want our funding you'll use our motor). The new Buell models being out from under Harley's thumb are incredible and I love that they are still using a V twin engine. The idea of having a competitive American built sport bike and an absolute insane cruiser model is what we all need and just don't know it yet. I would own one if I could afford it!

@waterkoppie 23 дня назад
Excuse me..... no one mentioned the remark on LED's ? It was not (only) on the CVO's, I think you meant on all the Rushmore (=Touring) models except the Road King ? By the way Indian revival (complete bike after the engine earlier) and Rushmore models came in the same model year (June/July 2013). So the Rushmore was not really a reaction on the Indians (certainly not on the bigger but less powerful Indian engine). Maybe introduced one year early because maybe the Indians were "expected" by H-D, hence no 2014 Road Glide ? Road King halogen came for Rushmore with separated high beam and low beam. Rushmore has bluetooth for the phone. Rushmore was a cost reduction on the Tourings anyways indeed, details were skipped, and a lot of (chrome) trim as well, very obvious like the saddlebag guard rails and more (as started on the Ultra Limited (first 103) of 2010). The coolant pump replacement kit you show was not meant so much for leaking coolant lines, but more so for the electric pumps that failed, and replaced in the kit with a MY17 MW8 derivative (then without thermostat by the way). My opinion ? : the HOTC on the heavier Ultra Limited repairs the performance gap with the 2013 lighter Road King, especially due to the 10% torque increase.

Thank you! question, why do some 2014 and 2015 FLHTK ultra Limited's have cross over (X) pipes and some have parallel pipes? had a 09 flhtc with fp3, 255 cams, slipons and intake. ran strong, I like the cam in the rushmore better.
@GixxerFoo

I believe that was due to trying to relocate the catalytic converter but the difference also if I recall might of been related to the Ultra Limited Low which had shorter suspension and reduced ground clearnace.

@@GixxerFoothank you. I’ve owned exactly one Harley over the 45 years I’ve ridden. A 1973 Sportster. Not a reliable bike. In spite of that, I always admired the look and sound and comfort of the larger bikes, and later when the road king came out in the 90’s. Alas, my family was priority then and small kids meant no expensive toys. Now I’m retired and the cost it higher than ever… always just out of reach. Consequently, I’ve since had many Japanese and European bikes that have been great… but that road king will always be an object of desire.

Rushmore came too soon for Indian to have had any real influence on it. Indian was reclaimed and their first bikes were announced in 2013. Rush more project bikes were on the road the same year the Indian Chiefs and Chieftains debuted. So I dont think Indian had anything to do with it. Indian pre Polaris was no threat what so ever and was not making any bikes that were at any level reasonably better than the softail or old baggers. I would argue that Indian did not actually bring any real challenge to Harley's bikes at all until the Challenger was released. The challenger was an undeniable... excuse the word Challenger to HD's money making line up. The Chieftain's only plus over the rushmore HD bikes was that it has better rear suspension... which we now know is easily rectified with a swap, and HD's rushmore frame is just as good if not better than the Indian Challenger's. HD has not changed their frame for the 2024 bikes, despite so many of those changes being specific to making sure they win King of the Baggers. Indian's first real influence on Harley handedly would be the challenger, because nothing before hand actually challenged Harley beyond stealing away customers who want a harley bike but dont want a Harley, if you understand who I'm talking about.
