IRTS. (Indian Railway Traffic Service) is an IAS Allied Service. There are two branches of Traffic Service at Division and Headquarter level, one is the Commercial Dept and the other is the Operations Dept. Every waiting listed ticket is being conformed by the IRTS, to be more precise by Commercial Dept. Be it an MP, Defence, Cancer Patients and any other quota is being released by Commercial Dept. Apart from this, they enjoy the power to get tickets confirmed under VIP quota/DRM quota and waiting tickets which get conformed under this quota depends upon their own discretion and whims and fancies. Apart from this, all loading unloading in goods train or parcel vans, Train punctuality, dealing with passengers, TTE, Guards, Railway Stations etc fall under their jurisdiction. They also enjoy a separate Carriage/Saloon facility which is their separate personal train coach with all facilities like kitchen, drawing room, 2 bedrooms, inspection room, 2 bathrooms, rooms for staff etc. They enjoy saloon facility with their family when they go from one place to another on duty. No reservation is required. Their bungalows are the biggest and most maintained among all officers in Sate Govt, Central Govt, Army, Navy etc. Like all Police Stations are under an IPS officer, all Railway Stations are under an IRTS officer. The transfer, suspension, writing of ACRs, etc of Station Managers/ Station Masters are the powers and responsibilities of an IRTS officer. Typically 100 to 150 Railway Stations are there in a Railway Division under an IRTS officer. They can easily travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari on duty in Saloon/Carriage with their family. Bungalow, Govt Car with Driver, Domestic Helps, etc are the facilities they get.

IRTS deals in commercial and operation only in indian railways..2ndly IRTS can't and should not be compared with IAS ...and IRTS is all India transferable but in terms of Indian railways set up only ..
