Remember when my female ringneck first started pinning I was scared I thought what the hell she usually does when she really excited Nice video and very informative. Tell ricco we'll done for behaving for the shoot🤣
Thank you!!! I just got my first ringneck he isn’t hand trained so it will be a long Journey, this video really helped since I couldn’t find much info about ringneck behavior :)
Congratulations on your new ringneck parrot. It will take time, but it’s well worth the wait. I also have a part 1 as well that has other body languages that may help you, it’s In my playlist under parrot body language part 1 and 2. All the best.
I adopted my IRN from a parrot rescue about 3 months ago. I took her to the vet, she's about 2.5. Shw started to learn to speak, saying peekaboo and good bay, be a good 🎉 for the past week all she does is scream and she tries to bite me. Any idea why? She hasn't tried to come out of her cage today, becoming threatening if I even look at her. Usually, she comes out and likes to cuddle. I did notice there are some gewrhwrs around, nit sure but think she might be molting.
Are you she is molting or could she be hormonal? This behaviour sounds like she is being protective of her cage, usually around this age they do become hormonal. If you are on Instagram can you DM me so I can try to help you out better.
Can you DM on Instagram or Facebook with a video? It’s difficult to say without seeing. Have you watched the part 1 to this video? It may be the mating behaviour.
I just got a ring neck parrot and he is definitely a baby he was Hampstead but he’s wild I can’t get him to go on my finger I come to me and he hates the cage so he sits on my curtain rod thank God all the curtains up there and he likes to be high up can you give me some knowledge how to train this bird I never had a ring parrot before I had an African gray I had him for 26 years and he just died on me heart my heart is broken
So sorry to hear about the passing of your African grey. Congratulations on your new Ringneck parrot. Do you mean he was hand fed? Also can you find me some more information, how long you have had him for etc. Try using food and his favourite treats to bond and train him. Ringneck parrots love food and there for are usually food motivated.
Your Videos have been a great help! I watched it again. This will certainly help to understand our Parrot 🦜 better. Thanks for this beautiful Video!!! 🦜❤️❤️😍🥰🙏🙏🙏🦜🦜🙏
How long have you had your bird and was he/she born this colour? The colour ha nothing to do with the gender. If you are on Instagram or Facebook I can send you some links of videos I’ve done or try and help you.
Saw some videos where a male ringneck would regularly lean back on one leg when interacting with a female, wondered what the leaning back pose meant, do u have an idea?
Sounds like a warning before biting or attack, however it’s difficult to say without seeing a video. If you are on Instagram or Facebook you can DM me and I’ll try to help you out.
Are you asking me if they need sunlight? If so yes natural sunlight is very beneficial to them as long as they have access to shade and water if you are bringing them outside and it’s hot.
I live in Kona I have no avian vet because there’s very there is one but he’s very dirty and the other avian vet is no longer practicing. So I basically look at videos read, etc. Unfortunately my bird she’s a female her name is Hoku she’s four years old did lay some unfertilized eggs I let her sit on them and for the 21 days the problem I got rid of them without her seeing me doing it ! She wasn’t ready to get rid of them so she was very angry with me bit me where she drew blood… She’s finally de escalating from it she’s still biting me, but it’s not as much or as hard ! She’ll fly on my shoulder and just hanging out then she’ll just bite my ear and it hurts. How do I stop this?
If she’s hormonal their are some things you can do such as changing her diet, try to avoid warm mushy foods and to much sugary fruits, you need to mimic as if it was winter. So more sleep, at least 14 hours of darkness and remove anything that could be causing her to be hormonal, dark spots etc. it will pass, but hopefully by making some adjustments it will help somewhat.
It’s difficult to say without actually hearing it. If you are on Facebook or Instagram you can DM me with a video or the sound and I’ll try to help you out.
They will usually chatter & practice before talking and you being able to understand. I have three videos that might help you . What age do parrots start to talk 👉ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uBReqVwMhtw.html Or noises ringneck parrots make and meanings 👉ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tDB6w0MmDjY.html Or when Ricco started to talk at 9 months old, you can tell the difference on how he talks now 👉ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ONOD7rptlUk.html
Thank you for your video. It is very helpful. One question I have a female and a male ringnecks and many times the female (smaller in size)is seen intimidating the male like chasing the male and wanting to bite it. Thank you Harold
A couple of questions, are they the same age, did you get them at the same time and do you have them in the same cage? If you do have them in the same cage I would highly recommend you put them in a separate cage immediately as the female ringneck parrots are know to kill the males if they dislike them. If she is showing these behaviours already she could seriously hurt him and it also will cause him stress in the meantime. You can still have them interact, but only when supervised until they become bonded or except each other. Also are you wanting to breed them?
Screaming from a bird can be caused from many things. Is it suddenly and constantly, if so look around to see if anything could be frightened her. Also has anything changed? If you want to DM me on Instagram I can try to help you.

I have two ringneck parrots. Your bird is lovely and this was a very informative talk. Thank you for posting this content and I enjoy your channel very much!
Just got a blue Indian ringneck parrot we had a kakiriki for years but he aspirated unfortunately nothing we could do. I was hesitant and really wasn't sure at first but he came right up to me and just stared right at me. Just seemed time I guess. He's stunning. Just learning so much from your videos thank you for your content it helps.
I'm waiting on my birthday gift to hatch that my son n daughter n law bought from a breeder I'm excited n scared at the same time. I'm an animal loving person and I want to do everything to keep him or her healthy and happy. Your videos help alit. I'm trying to get as much info a head of time. Thank you
My budgie loves to bath and she will come up to a water bottle and tap it when I am in the room I have a big bin I poor water into from a water bottle for her bath she prefers it but it is so funny
Every bird is different and reacts differently to things such as mirrors. If your bird does show hormonal behaviours towards an object or mirror I do agree it’s best to not allow them access to it. In Ricco’s case he is limited to mirrors and will always pick me over a mirror any day.
When mine sees a mirror, she attacks it haha, I'm trying to cover every mirror in the house so she won't interact with them, but sometimes she manages to find (1)@@Riccothegreenpiedirn
Thank you so much for your videos. They have been extremely helpful. I have had my ringneck since February and he/she was not hand reared. It's taken us a while to be able to stand close to the cage and talk to he/she. We have taken our baby out the cage, but it is very difficult getting it back in again. Our baby is still scared when we open the cage to get food bowls out and to clean, but there's been much improvement from where we were. Our baby is approximately 10/11 months old now. One thing our baby has been doing with me is when I'm talking to he/she, it comes real close to my face and slightly moves its wings almost like in a little dance. It doesn't open its wings completely. Just slightly moves them close to its body up and down. Is that normal? We will continue our journey with taming and bonding and trust. It's been quite interesting and hard work too. Thank you again for all your wonderful videos. Ricco is a real cutie!! 🙏🏼💚💚❤
Congratulations on your new Ringneck parrot, he/she sounds adorable 🥰 The Indian ringneck parrots are definitely not easy, so I commend you for not giving up. It sounds like you are on your way to building a great bond already. It’s difficult to say what the body language is by not seeing it. Have you seen part 1 of the body language, was it similar to the female flirting? If you like you can DM me on Instagram or Facebook with a video so I can help you out, both links are on my page. Also with gaining trust I find treats and food really works, especially if they are food motivated. Just keep one treat that you will only use to gain her trust. Ricco’s are Pine nuts but you can use whatever your bird loves. ❤️
I really appreciate your message. It's not like the behaviour displayed by the female. I will definitely take a video and send it to you. Thank you so much again. 😊😍❤🙏🏼😘❤
I have had cockateils for years. Just adopted a 2-3 year old female ringneck. Your channel is quite helpful. I do hope once she settles in she will not flap out of the cage and Mayne she'll make some sounds. I heard the loud scream a.couple of times, but mostly she is silent
Thank you. How long have you had her for? It does take time for them to settle in to a unfamiliar home. Just keep talking to her softly and make slow movements around her. It also helps to have her cage in a corner that is at eye level so she doesn’t feel threatened. Offering her treats and food will help to gain her trust and she will start to associate you with something positive. Also when she does scream try to figure out what is causing her to do so, that way you can help her if it’s from fear. She will come around, just give her time. Thank you for rescuing her ❤️
@@Riccothegreenpiedirn Thank you. I have only had her for a few days. I feel bad because my tiels are out most of the time and I can't let her out yet until I know she won't be aggressive with me or them. She did escape the 1st night and I managed to scoop her up (her wings are clipped and she is a FAST runner) she snuggled under my chin and let me pet her, so I believe she was well cared for before the previous owners tossed her out (literally) they moved away and let her go in the yard) Bu t I don't think we are buddies yet.
@@helenefurst4008 It sounds promising already if you’ve only had her for a couple of days. Just keep interacting with her daily and she will come around.
What does it mean when my male ringneck does a grand side-to-side swaying motion with his head bent backwards on his shoulders? It seems to be a good thing like he's happy or flirting? 🤔🦜
I actually have a part one to this video that explains the male behaviours, it’s in my playlist. But by the sounds of it it sounds like the mating dance and when they show off lol. They usually do it to a favourite person, toy, mirrors or other birds. Some will even do it to feet 😂
@@Riccothegreenpiedirn Thanks! I watched that video, too, but didn't see his exact behaviour. Maybe my guy is just a big ham. LOL. I'll try to video it.
@@convincedquaker They each do a unique mating dance as I mentioned in the video, some will hope, do what Ricco does , others will strut and others will sway back and forth like your boy. It’s all about winning the ladies 😊
Ricco is a green pied mutation, they do not develop the ring and his eyes will remain dark giving him the baby look forever . A lot of people are not familiar with these types of mutations because they are rare, I actually have a video all about him in my playlist 😊
Paper is safe as long as it doesn’t have ink on it or you can provide your bird with natural safe wood to chew on, it’s natural they do it in the wild.
IMy mother has a female Ringneck Parrot called Kiwi. Just wanted to ask if they need a flat surface in the cage to lay on, or is being stood on a perch all the time ok?
Adding a variety of perches such as flat and round is really good for a bird, especially because they are on their feet so much. Different sizes and textures is good as well such as natural safe wood perches. I made lots of comfortable perches for Ricco to help him. Does she get out of cage time as well?
@@Riccothegreenpiedirn Thank you for the response :) The cage is always open and she has the choice to do what she wants, even getting down to the floor and having a wander around. Shes interacted with a lot too and overall seems quite happy from what I can tell (after watching your vids). She isnt keen on a lot of the toys and brightly coloured perches, so the more natural ones are best.
Yes it dies, but if your bird is shivering and doing this pretty much all day it could be from a illness or your birds being cold. This is why I mentioned this is very similar to your bird resting.
Part 1 and part2 helped me slipping much to clear my confusions of my parrot grinding his beak and rubbing his beak on the porch and putting his head in his feathers. Thank you so much!
