Indian Thick-knee/ Indian stone curlew call recorded at Ahmedabad.
I’m completely obsessed with calls of the Indian Stone-curlew call! They are particularly very vocal-actually, loudly vocal-at dusk, every day around 7 PM, and again in the mornings. Their vocalizations fill the air, I can’t help but pause and listen to their eerie sounds. I love watching these birds gather, calling to one another, spreading their wings just a little, taking short-playful jumps, and walking stealthily across the ground while calling continuously.
Indian Stone-curlew calls are part of breeding behavior and territorial displays. These vocalizations help establish their presence and deter other birds from encroaching on their territory. The calls can also play a role in communication between mates.
I often wonder how these birds survive in the city --concrete jungle. With heavy development and construction sites popping up everywhere, it’s heartening to see some patches of fields still remain, providing last resort. Urban Wildlife Adapts to Harsh Environment. I do not know how many more days I will be able to see them?! I love the activities of these mysterious birds behind my residence, and I feel blessed to watch, hear, and feel their presence daily.
