you don't need to remove the fender to remove the calipers. There's a notch in the fender, lift the caliper up and turn the top of the caliper towards you and it pops right out. Put a car jack under the tire and the axle slides right out. Takes the weight off the axle.
Yup, I saw it mentioned in the manual and tried it. For some reason, I struggled a little to get it out (maybe i didn’t try hard enough because it was easy enough to remove the fender) :)
I guess you don’t have to. Just need to remove the caliper covers to remove the brake calipers. I guess I should have named this video front fender and front wheel removal :)
