Head Coach Christie Sides, Caitlin Clark and Katie Lou Samuelson speak to the media after an 89-84 loss to the Mystics on Wednesday. 0:00 - Head Coach Christie Sides 6:09 - Caitlin Clark 12:39 - Katie Lou Samuelson
Caitlyn is SO good with the media. I have never seen a 22-year-old like her - such maturity and professionalism. She is the real deal, on and off the court.
💯! That is why CC has four major national endorsements of: Nike, Wilson, Gatorade and State Farm, besides many others like Bose, Buick, Hy-Vee and H&R Block! Large successful companies want to align themselves and spend their millions on mature winners who are classy, mature and good role models.
My exact sentiments. She handles questions from the press better than her coach. Gives better answers. CC needs to play a "dual role" on the team...🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ckark rallied and brought the team back to a 4 pt game, and Sides brings in Wheeler to foul and give up free throws, and then drew a play for Mitchell that was 0-8
yeah CC takes responsibility for everything for this team…its a freaking Team Sport, not a tennis match with one player…she has 8 coaches sitting there watching….so its not on her….
She is not on the floor playing. She is not throwing the passes away and letting the other team blow by them. There are games that those things don't happen which shows me it is about the team maturing and not just about the coach on the sidelines.
Sides sucks tremendously as a coach smh and she doesn’t know how to express herself well with the press smh same ole conversation after each game…the GM needs to do something
@@debbiealdred8282 The GM does need to be fired as well as Sides. Lin Dunn is 27-72 in 3 years as GM. Maybe the owner Herb Simon needs to actually start getting involved and pay attention to this trainwreck that Sides and Dunn have created.
If Sides best coaching comes down to "they gotta keep showing up" she does NOT belong in the W. She is literally painful to watch & listen to! And it's obvious she doesnt even believe she knows what she's doing. Get rid of her or continue to fail!😵
Head Coach Christie Sides had another bad coaching performance. Killing her own team momentum calling a time out when they are on a scoring run. Not calling time outs when the opposite teams are on scoring runs. Not knowing what team line up works best for the indiana fever after 20+ games. Awful Coaching You are Fired.
I think her lineup changes just didn’t work and the team looked exhausted after the great win over the Liberty. This is not me making excuses but just reality.
Craziness that she'd change the line up from just a couple of days ago when they knocked out the #1 team..she needs to say it's her coaching job.. practice coaching better!😮
@@studioonecreatetoday1173 the momentum killers are the worst. I saw team throw their hands up when a timeout was called when they were gunning in transition.
Mystic is a 6 win and 17 loss team and The fever was home. This loss is unacceptable. Sides also lost the 3rd game against the Sky in Chicago. Firesides
you haven't watched their games, they are a much better team than their standings show. They almost beat the Aces not long ago and held A'ja to only 11 points.
@@pf2007, Yes they do and when a Coach sees that, that’s when you take them out let them sit and watch the game to maybe see or get a fill of what may be disrupting their game. Plus it can also help the other players on your team bc your seeing it differently from the bench than on the floor. I’ve heard many players talk about this and how it made a difference. Sometimes you got to do what you got to do but this Coach she just doesn’t get it. Just like the starting line up, If it doesn’t need fixed.. Don’t fix it. But she will do the opposite all the time.
I could not have said it better myself. Well spoken! Someone in this organization needs to step up. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in ‘ any Sport’ in 57 years of my life. She claims she didn’t have an answer and it was a coaches decision. Well, it’s also the coaches fault and like you said she blames the players. That is just absolutely ridiculous. She is scratching her head wondering why it did not work this game. We just beat the best team in the WNBA the New York liberty prior to this game, and then she goes and change the starting lineup after it was very productive. Why is she even coaching in a professional sport?
Why do people constantly say she blames the players??? I NEVER hear her saying that. She always says she has to see what SHE can do better. She always sticks up for the players?? Like what are yall listening to. Of course she has to mention the fact that the players play in the game, but she never throws them under the bus. You couch coaches are hating on things that don’t even make sense. 😅
This is the first time I’ve seen CC with her head up and lots of confidence after a loss. It sounds like she knows they leaned a lot from this one and she just wants to get out there again.
True. Normally she's not looking like this after a loss. I think she's accepting that there will be loses...not accepting losing but accepting that they will lose but will get better.
She didn’t look this way walking off the court at the end. Can you imagine being primarily responsible for your team coming back and then not given the chance to tie the game with the last play? Her face reflected what I think a lot of Fever fans felt - disappointment over a missed opportunity of giving Clark the chance to tie the game.
Congratulations to Caitlin on another historic game. She played amazingly well. It's amazing what she's able to accomplish facing such smothering defensive coverages. She's ROTY.
@@adbwhatspoppin You may be right. I don't know. All I'm saying is she got another double double today and she's been all over the sports news so you can't count her out.
And why isn't she giving the ball to Caitlin at the end of these close games to shoot?? Why in the world is Mitchell shooting after she was 0 for 8 ?????
She sat her because it was a defensive situation they were going into, and Caitlin's considered strong on offense rather than defense. Not that I agree with the decision (hello Coach...5 steals!) - just explaining it. I personally think it gives the opponent a mental and moral boost when they see CC on the bench like that.
What irks me is this undermines Caitlin's confidence on defense! My word ... How many rebounds, steals and blocks can a point guard have and have the coach still leave in a 5'8 guard or bring in a cold replacement??? Sides doesn't want Caitlin to make the buzzer beater or be on the court for that defensive rebound!!!
Sides said they are going to watch tape tomorrow and figure out what was different between the 1st 3 qtrs and the 4th qtr. Spoiler alert for Sides: Caitlin must have been fed up with the huge deficit and took matters into her own hands! Lexi and Kelsey joined in. Lexi's defense was stellar.
This game loss is not on Mitchell or any of the other team members. This loss is on Christie, she changed the synergy of this team by changing the starting five. Here’s a tip Christie, please STOP messing with what works!!!😊
This coach has absolutely no constructive ideas on how to work with the talent she has! Someone needs to make the tough (easy) decision and move on from her.
Sides doesn’t know why they had the turnovers. Coach should be watching the players and know why the turnovers were happening and make the correct changes. ???? After hearing CC interview, it’s obvious she’s knows more than Sides.
I think it irritates Sides that Clark is so confident in her basketball knowledge which is why Sides seems to always be trying to show Clark who is boss by humbling her with public criticism, sharing Clark's texts, benching her at the end of tight games, and leaving her out of plays. If Sides doesn't think people don't see it, she is wrong.
It feels like the only person not growing with this young team is Sides. I truly don't understand her coaching decisions. She tinkers way to much. Sides seemed like she couldnt adjust to the back door cut by Washington
In what reality, with the game on the line, do you put your best player on the bench? Sides has done this time after time, and it hasn't yet yielded a positive outcome. This notion that Clark is weak defensively is simply moronic. She had 5 steals and 3 blocked shots today and she's a very good rebounder. Putting Clark on the bench takes the flow of the game away from her. Clark is the best transition player in the game, now you've taken that opportunity away. The Christie Sides experiment needs to end. From one day to the next, fans are never sure which Fever team will show up. Big win against the Liberty then down 21 to the Mystics, that simply defies logic.
Agree! It is maddening to see Sides continue to bench Clark at the end of games. The only conclusion I can draw now is that Sides is deliberately disrespecting Clark because it just isn't logical.
@@certifiedvibez basketball is a game of runs and it matters when they happen. Wheeler came in with seconds to go, and immediately fouled and gave up free throws. Then Sides called the last play for Mitchell . Sides lost this game.
Christie Sides needs to keep Caitlin on the court with Lexie the majority of the time. Also the team needs to play with more focus, aggressiveness, and urgency on both ends of the floor. And clean up the turnovers.
Lexi makes everybody better on defense and cc makes everyone better on offense. They didnt run anything on offense to start the game but on defense they came out flat and slow. Notuced all the early games were low scoring
She really does need to go. Not just because they lost, but her decision making is atrocious! Times out and rotations are awful. She’s killing this team!
Glad CC said line up was coach decision and her job is to involve her teammates. She always responds well. Listen to SIDES...full of repetitive excuses. Sides needs to let herself go. She can't coach during the game.
CC is smart. She politely throws shade 😎 at the coach as well as teammates. She often says not my decision...I trust my teammates...my job is to set my teammates up. She's good 😅with those little jabs.
Christie sides really drew up a play for Mitchell at the end who went 0-8 from 3 😭. Mitchell waved away CC twice when she was wide open! That or 21 games in… coach hasn’t taught the team how to set proper screens. Lexie Hull and Smith should start. But good job team for staying resilient. That’s growth! CC really carried the team in the 4th for real. Team needs to know CC is the #1 option in the last seconds. They’re winning in spite of coaching. Also coach subbing CC out for defense late in the game when she’s leading the team in steals and blocks is madness.
I would love for Kelsey to play a sixman role. Because hero ball (aka give-it-to-Kelsey) is not as effective as hero ball with Chennedy Carter. Kelsey is too hot/cold. A lineup of CC Boston Lyss Lexie Katie-Lou, lets just see it for once. Please.
@@scotteduzntno8671 she at least gets rebounds. we needed that this game. Dantas remains to be seen; so far she’s hit some money shots both games she was in!
Here we go the side excuses . side made a time out on a 6 ball run then right at the end she benched clark . the final play was a joke a 3 and a foul could have won the game . so many rebound were not picked up 24 games in and sides still hasnt got a clue
Fire this Coach, Fire this Coach, Fire This Coach. She doesn't know what the H€ll she's doing. She's suppose to be a defensive coach so where's her defensive coaching. Why did they not play and then release Celeste Taylor when she was top ten defensive player twice. CC took over in the Fourth, that's what happened, unfortunately she can't carry the whole team. You also gave the ball to Mitchell who didn't make one three pointer all game instead of CC who was on Fire? Sides sabotages CC at every turn. Fire Sides, Fire Sides, Fire Sides and The Whole coaching staff. When this team wins it's in spite of Sides not because of her.
This coach is out of her mind. They got within 3 with 16 seconds left and she took the ball out of clarks hands. Who the hell was that last playcall for? Coach deflated all the energy the team had with that bad playcall. No one looked jazzed to execute that last play coming out of the huddle and it went as expected. They managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
it was snowball's chance in hell because they didnt have possession with 16 seconds left, they fouled than and it was 5 points last play didnt matter you needed a 3 and a turnover for another last second shot
At that point in game they couldn't have won if if Clark was in game and made a 3. Now I do agree she should stay in the game til the end. Only time is to rest when Fever is up not when down.
They beat the Liberty then bench Smith because she played too good. She had a double double. The day they beat the Liberty should have set the lineup for the rest of the season. The secret formula has been discovered.
Sounds like Coach was trying to blame CC for AB being in foul trouble. "our timing wasn't quite right which probably contributed to some of AB's fouls"... What!!??
I normally am not a wnba fan, but I don’t want to see a promising young career be wasted by an organization. ( Caitlyn Clark) so I will interfere this once. Onus is on the head coach to get the team win. Offense, put ball in hoop. Defense, get stops. Up down, up down. Simple game. Team goals. Team basketball.
Clark will be fine. She was selected as #1 Draft pick because of her great skill and the team that gets the #1 Draft does so because they have worse record from previous season. Fever has had back to back #1 picks. Clark will be fine.
Should have been a free win today. Boston can't get in foul trouble early like that. Kelsey can't go 0 for 8 from 3 point range and then get a play drawn up for her in the final seconds when Caitlin is having a legacy game. Caitlin nearly just won the game by herself in trhe 4th quarter and sides draws up a play for Mitchell. Makes ZERO sense.
Christie Sides needs to play her best starting lineup which is Caitlin, AB, Lexie, Smith, & Mitchell. Dantas needs to play every minute that AB is out of the game. Wheeler & Samuelson should come off the bench in limited minutes.
@@breezybreeze12 No. I like Samuelson but her shot isn't falling and she can't defend. Lexie greatly helps the team on defense and offense. And she makes sure that Caitlin gets the ball. In fact Caitlin plays her best with Lexie on the floor. In today's game it was Caitlin & Lexi leading the way. The starting lineup should be Caitlin, Lexie AB, Smith, & Mitchell. Dantas & Temi should be the 1st players off the bench. Samuelson & Wheeler needs to come off the bench and play limited minutes.
I think you start either Hull or Samuelson, but not both at the same time. Fagbenle makes a big difference we she's healthy, she's really the only big they have with speed. They were out hustled big time on rebounds.
Caitlin Clark broke the turnover record in history for the WNBA and the reps keep giving false foul calls so CC can stack her point will not work with better teams. The coach has a hard time trying to keep the narrative on point, in other words the coach is not the blame!
Don't do that. You can't try to blame the rest of the team when we lose & congratulate C-Squared when we win. Issa team game. They are still trying to gel together as a team. Caitlin is probably the most valuable individual player to their team in the entire W & since she's so dynamic especially on offense, it takes a lot to understand how she thinks & how she plays. We're 3 games ahead of where we were last year which is a plus & we're coming off a win against the best team in the league, The Liberty which is better than ANY individual win we got last year. I believe we have the skill & ability to be a top 5 team & The Fever have shown spurts of it, we just can't do it on a consistent basis because we're the youngest team in the W. Be patient & let The Fever keep cooking up that championship level chemistry that I know we're capable of reaching.
when the team do something right the coach sides says “we” when the team do something wrong they are “they” no accountability at all. and I don’t think she notices that tho’
come on coach after a great win you switch up the lineups??? we are on the line for the playoffs its not the time to experiment when you had a team meshing well. im okay with lexie starting cause she is tenacious even when the team loses theirs but taking smith out was Not it.. cc, boston, smith, mitchell, and hull/samuelson.. that is the lineup until temi returns i feel like this is an obvious thing? am i wrong or something? i dont think so. everyone sees it
Clark makes one wonder if the team would be better with Clark as a player/coach. Probably not workable but I've never considered such a thing till now and with Clark. She's got some extra natural basketball wisdom.
Talk about the consummate professional. Not only is she an elite athlete but she knows the game and strategies extremely well. So well i believe she could step in as coach and be "EXTREMELY" successful. Would not be the first time a player has done double duty...🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yes, they had 3 bad quarters. In game adjustments were not good today. Defense was atrocious. How many back door plays did they get beat on? Should've gone to a zone or hybrid zone. However it may not have mattered when you turn the ball over 23 times. They were outcoached and out played. Good news is that all of this hopefully is a learning experience.
@@JB-zh1tuagreed. Just always seems a step behind coaching wise. Substitutions were questionable. Wallace should've played more and Dantas should've played more.
