That’s pretty standard opinion. And not wrong. For me raiders and crusade are kinda tied. Each has its own best moments and bad stuff so I think they’re quite equal. The only edge the raiders has is I like the villain more
Raiders is widely considered the best (I agree). IMO Last Crusade is a really close second, but I think Spielberg overcorrected from Temple of Doom and made it a little too lighthearted/comedic at some points.
My main complaint with the Indiana Jones series is that we got Shia labeouf instead of a grown up Short Round who could for all intents and purposes be Indy's adoptive son and protege. I would've loved a grown up Short Round as an assistant professor and archaeologist to Indy for an eventual passing of the torch.
Also, I find the Willie/Indy bed scene hilarious. She not noticing that he gets attacked and when he then runs in and she thinks he changed his mind and wants to get with her, and he just wants to look for the guy who attacked him, and she is like "Please be gentle". lol It always cracks me up.
As the episode went on I became more and more nervous that these idiots would rank it above Raiders. THis is the worst of the Trilogy and may be on par with Crystal Skull. I'll make that call when I watch it in 2 weeks. Until then thank you Andy, Nick, and Bless.
ToD was always weird because to me it really feels like an entirely different movie than the other two, almost like a soft reboot of the series. Finding out it’s supposed to be a prequel makes a lot of sense.
The tone is way more intense. It's kind of a sloppy prequel though since Indy's skeptical of magic in Raiders, the supposed sequel ("We've known each other for a long time. I don't believe in magic, a load of superstitious hocus-pocus."). You'd think the events of ToD would convince him of the possibility. But...he's also skeptical in The Last Crusade, so I guess he's just naturally hard to convince of supernatural things (he is a scientist after all).
Grew up watching Temple of Doom and Last Crusade. Temple of Doom to me is a very enjoyable film. Love the opening scene, crawling through the tunnel filled with bugs, the idea of the mystical cult, and Shortround. I don't think it's a great movie though, just a good action adventure movie.
You know what I see....5 HATERS. How dare you talk about Wille? She was the comic relief in this movie. It would have been super lame if not for her. The part with her running around in the jungle,...The part with the bugs oh...and the other best part...when the ate dinner with the prince. You guys are wrong about this one. I respect it, but wrong...LOLOL!!! Andy once again...You are absolutely hilarious... Loved the review.
This movie was on probably around a hundred times when I was a child and I saw it before I saw any other Indiana Jones movies. It became my definitive Spielberg Adventure movie but I never remembered how bad Willie was. That being said after watching all four this is certainly not the best or worst but I really liked how it begins and then just keeps going and going.
I like the creepiness factor and the mysteriousness of this one but my god, it feels like Spielberg didn't know how to direct a woman character till Dr. Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park. It's really hard to get into a movie that has no regard for writing quality characters surrounding the protagonist. Especially when women fair so poorly.
I guess as a kid I never saw the country as India. I always assumed it was some sort of fictional land mostly because I never pick up the movie from the beginning. But it explicitly shows India right?
I tell you what, all the Willie hate I don't get. I love her banter with Indy. And I think it's why I think her character is much more fun and interesting than Marion in the first movie. Because Marion is just female Indiana Jones. She is too similar to Indy. I think Willie just creates a great foil for Indy, a great contrary. That's why it works more me and is so much fun. And she is supposed the comedy relief, I find a lot of her scenes funny. Even if it comes of as cartoonish. The whole scene where she is scared of animals and Indy and Short Round don't pay attention at all. I think that's funny. And Short Round is amazing too. I love all the characters in this movie. It's just an amazing ride from start to finish. I have to admit to, that I have grown up with the german dub of the movie, and Willie's voice in the german version might be a little bit less annoying than her original voice. But still, even when watching the original version, it works for me.
The banquette scene was the first of any Indiana Jones I saw and was so scared and for a long time I kind of avoided the series because my impression was such an offensive concept of any cultural cuisine. I didn’t even know it was supposed to be Indian.
I know this is random but I just thought of it because I'm watching the movies with my girlfriend. You guys are running out of franchises to watch so why haven't you watched pirates of the Caribbean series yet. I know they're not the best but they hold near and dear to my heart and I feel like 1 through 3 is pretty solid. The 4th and 5th one are debatable but I like to watch the updated graphics none the less...... I think about it
I watched this last night, and I legitimately feel like I don't remember like an hour of it. And the stuff I do remember was 1) Willie being un-f*cking-bearable 2) offensive depictions of multiple eastern cultures (I love Short-Round too, but come on), and 3) the most blatant and unapologetic white savior narrative I think I've ever seen in a film 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. ________________ 3. Temple of Doom
I like this movie well enough, but if I'm being honest, it's my least favorite of the franchise (I know, I know), and it's largely because of Willie. I simply cannot stand her character. And I don't connect to the narrative material here like I do the others, even Crystal Skull.
I hate saying that too because it does come off as like “women can’t be in action movies” but it’s just the most caricatured writing and performances of a damsel in distress and it just doesn’t land.
I really don’t love this movie. Willy really ruins this film and it feels like a lot of disconnected vignettes stitched together by Indy and company. 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Temple of Doom
Honestly thought this movie was bad. Indy and Willie don't have any chemistry and their kiss at the end is undeserved. The feast scene is terribly racist along with many other scenes. The action was just silly and not very exciting nor did it make me feel as if indy was ever in danger. Just a let down after the first. Shortround was great though.
As an Indian this movie made me cringe every scene. The scene where the British soldiers save the day by shooting the locals was just magnifique. This was a crap movie I really couldn't sit through the scenes at all.
For real, eating monkey brains? You know how many times I was asked if I ate that when I was a kid? I'm vegetarian and so is most of India. Bs movie. Bad.
