Here is my review of the British Military 1941 Mark VII Gas Mask Bag, also used in the Indiana Jones films. I purchased this bag at onlinemilitaria.net/products/...
Military gas mask bags, and bread bags are so great, and often very affordable. I find especially the older ones good because they have vintage feel, and not some look modern person would associate with military like camo patterns, and so on necessarily. I personally would never buy expensive satchel so im very happy with old military ones just to carry water bottle, and some other daily items i might need
I often refer to the one that I use as, the impossible Indiana Jones bag. Most of his adventures are set in the middle to late 1930’S, that bag wasn’t made until after 1943. But it’s still a useful satchel however!
You're welcome. I was really a beginner in Indy gear when I made these videos. There are so many people who have gear reviews and they've done their research. The one thing I really try to focus on is visual detail so you can really see the color and texture of the gear. I also use my hat and bag daily. They really are functional beyond costume use.
I actually got a Legend of the East satchel (from Red Dead Redemption 2), as I prefer a more cowboy look. I love your videos tho, and this is a really nice review even if I don't plan on getting one. I also bought a hat after seeing your reviews.
Awesome, I’ve been lookin for a good satchel to replace this goodwill canvas like one I picked up! Been thinking of just buying one off eBay but glad to see that there’s a educated website for some cool Indy gear. How does the bag serve you as a teacher? I’m a paraprofessional so I figured we might have similar use cases
Not much use as a teacher really. Mostly just carrying a book and a journal around to read everywhere, it's perfect for that. If it was big enough to cary a laptop it may be teacher worthy. It's my off duty bag.
Your Indy gear is all coming together! 😂 How’s that hat holding up? You’re the only person I’ve seen who actually goes on adventures like kayaking with the hat and was wondering how practical it is! Looking for Indy hat myself, but of course with practicality and looks! I know Akubra hats are one of the toughest ones, but I’m scared the brim maybe too stiff to the point if it hits a branch or I have to squeeze through a gap (like in a cave) it’ll fall of my head rather than bending with the element. Also scared the wind may take it away haha. Been doing bit of research.
It’s definitely a tough hat, and while it is stiff it is still flexible enough to where it will bend and flex if you’re passing by trees or rocks. I actually think that because it is more stiff it doesn’t act like a sail, so steaming the front of the hat brim down like a sun shade keeps it from catching wind. I wear it everyday. Seriously
@@rootieboy FANTASTIC! Yeah this will definitely be my first Indy hat then 😂. Have you ever fell in the water with it, it’s still fine? Thank you so much, I needed this information!
@@TeaGamingPanda I actually fell off my paddle board with it on...in salt water. Definitely not something you want to do, however, somehow it has no salt spots on it. I just used a wet rag with clean water to wipe it down and to my surprise it was fine. I suppose had I let it dry with the salt water on it it would have been bad news. Like I said though, it is a lifestyle hat and it is called the Adventurer for a reason.
One day I'll go for a Herbert Johnson when I feel like I'm ready to splurge, but the Akubra Adventurer is definitely the best hat for the price. One thing I've noticed about other hat makers is that the quality is great but the hats are now getting borderline cartoony, almost mushroom like in the crown. At that point it's a bit too much of a costume for cosplay rather than a lifestyle hat.
@@rootieboy Yeah that's fair. I am placing my order right now, thank you so much once again for this information! Will help me a lot in the future and deciding on it haha. Appreciate it a ton, wish you the best have fun on your adventures! Also very glad you used it on adventures like that haha, hard to find people that do!
How much space is in there? In the movies he puts a lot of things in that bag, the golden idle, a sandbag, his journal, even the sankara stones. Pretty much all treasure he collects, if any he keeps, go in that bag. And how sturdy is it? Is it suitable for long term, prolonged rough, use? Are there any bigger sizes of this bag?
I cut out the center divider in my bag, which is what I'm guessing they did for the films. Any of those items would fit in this bag. I often cary a book, a journal, my sun glasses, wallet and keys if I'm going to a coffee shop.
@@rootieboy I'm wondering if something was attached on the inside there. I was re-sewing a large button on the front of a leather jacket and they put a small button inside so the large button in front doesn't cause the thread to tear through the fabric from the force of using it. I wonder if that's the purpose of that thing but in this case it's in reverse?
@@rootieboy for anyone who is interested.. found this video and he shows the purpose of that thing as well as other cool stuff. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JkyhvT8uTbA.html
