Along Indianapolis' west side interstates Tuesday morning, an extra set of eyes - looking down from the passenger seat of an 18-wheeler - watched over drivers. (Matt Kryger/IndyStar)
i think it is......lived around there for 39years. theres a lot of off/on ramps and way too many people cutting over at the moment for their exit. could you imagine if the speed limit was raised(if thats what your getting at) the chaos would be thru the roof.
"We are looking for people aggressively driving around semi's" Literally tickets and ruins a truck drivers career specifically because he was eating, while he drives, which is his job. You think that cop doesnt eat and drive? Looks like he does to me
There's not a problem with eating and driving but if you can't keep it in your own lane apparently you can't do them two things at once so don't do it because he couldn't do it which is why he got pulled over not because he was eating
Nobody should be driving and eating just pull over I have seen to many distracted drivers and wouldn't want a crash to happen over something like that.
In Oklahoma we have this law and I have asked many hwy patrol officers as a Chrysler tech how many tickets have been written and I usually get a laugh when I ask......
I drive for central transport and I go to Indianapolis every night from SouthBend off of 31 south to 465 south into 70 west and not even the police goes 55 either 😂
Just drove from one end of Indiana to the other from south to north. Big trucks and small cars are doing 70 thru 45 mph work zones. The fastest 18 wheelers are in Indiana.
Looks like the revenue collectors are setting up a sting by putting a slow moving vehicle in the fast lane and wondering why everyone's passing them Indiana must really need the money
The police also used to do this with mustangs, they would get into a large group and get everyone to speed. They would then pull everyone over and give like 40 tickets at once. I think they were called the pony patrol. The mustangs were also unmarked.
@@BS-hl9me I remember going out of Nashville with my family in my Dodge Durango back around 2001 and South of Indy I was approached by this hot rod looking Mustang and he kept revving his engine trying to encourage me to race him and I looked at him and smiled and I shook my head no and he kept going about a half an hour later I caught up to him and he was an unmarked cop who had someone pulled over.
We should start doing sting operations on them too. I can’t tell you how many cops I’ve seen speeding and running red lights just because they have a badge.
Police need to be observed as well. They should get the same punishment we all get. My dash cam actually caught a State Trooper driving reckless and speeding on a highway. I spoke with the Troop Command about the incident and filed a complaint. It didn’t go anywhere and they didn’t care. I turned in my video to the State AG and filed the complaint with the AG. All in all….the Trooper was issued a traffic citation. Shortly after, he resigned.
From someone who's been on ride alongs..we literally get random high priority calls. We don't choose when that next victim gets stabbed by her boyfriend.. bet If it was you getting stabbed 3 times you would want the responding officers to run any light they see
@@terrydishman4292 This is part of the problem. You are making accusations, and don't even understand the Law , or policies. Police don't always use sirens to respond to non emergency , non life threatening calls everyday. They can use there lights, sirens , and go thru a light to a call.
Our goal is to justify our extortion tactics. Meanwhile we could be investigating sex trafficking or gang activity or large scale drug dealers . No we will go undercover for traffic fines since that pays more
I mean it’s not like there was 36,096 fatalities from car crashes in 2019 alone as compared to 15,882 gun deaths NOT including suicides. P.S troopers are there to in force road laws
Cops drive like a maniac. here is the law, Just because you are driving a cop car it is NOT legal for you to speed. and when they get caught in their personal cars they show their badge and let each other go.
That doesn't make it acceptable. I think the rules of the road are pretty well established... if you can't follow them... and get pulled over... pay the price.
@@robertstewart1262 I drive a lot (50,000 miles a year) on 4 wheels. I’m not sure where the stats come from; however, trucks are my main problem. The only vehicle to hit me on the interstate has been a 18 wheeler. Swerved into my lane, pushed me into the grass, then hit me. Many times trucks have changed lanes, pushing vehicles off the road. This causes accidents, but the trucks keep going, having hit nothing. If slower traffic (trucks) would stay in the travel lane and not the passing lane this wouldn’t happen. Truck are a menace! I have to drive at night to get away from them. This is not ideal for me.
That is definitely not true. I see truckers driving in the inside lane when they have the 2 other lanes. Truckers also clogging up the passing lane for miles. Naw it's the truckers because everyone else just want to get by.
I disagree. I participated in this program with the state of Missouri back in 2013. Had a trooper riding in my tractor and calling out vehicles that were cutting other trucks f (and me) off, brake checking us and more. He rode with me for 4 days. They issued over 180 citations in that time (none to trucks), and could have issued 5 times that if they had enough chase vehicles. It was an eye opener to the trooper. He was shocked at what we put up with every day. It's not always about money.
Pay to play. Hit’em where it hurts. Personally, I wish they’d raise the price of citations, especially red light runners. Start fines at $750.00 and go from there.
How many times I've wanted to PIT maneuver a car that cut me off in my truck just to get 1 or 2 car lengths ahead. Unrelated: id rather someone generate revenue than wreck and snarl traffic for 3+ hours
Of course you’re privileged to the day to day operations of the Indiana State Police, cheers and thanks for your thoughtful commentary, have a great day..
@@northseabrent Dude, cops are significantly less complicated and clever than they make themselves out to be. They really shouldn't be doing stupid shit like this unless they had the intelligence to do so. Save this shit for special divisions, aka officers who have the mind to actually make this stuff effective. Police officers can barely drive let alone form complicated plans to stop aggressive driving. It's a joke how useless they truly are. Maybe they should prioritize routine surveillance and routine patrols instead of sitting in a ghost car randomly in the middle of the street and still not pull over anyone going over 60. I was arrested by a state trooper, we had a nice conversation when he put me in the front of his car in the passanger's seat about how most officers don't have the capacity or skill to operate at certain levels, especially on the streets. What was I arrested for? Outrunning a state trooper. You know what would've prevented me from running? Proper surveillance and officers set up frequently in the right places to prevent people from getting angsty.
Tennessee State Troopers actually have a semi truck painted up with the classic tan and brown paint job and they apparently around the state to do this kinda thing with it. They primarily focus on distracted driving like cellphones because it’s easy to see in a normal car
As a truck driver myself, I'm glad the officers are doing this. This gives the officers a birds eye view of what a truck driver has to deal with on a day to day basis.
@@canttouchthis6439 Just happened to me & had to kick it in high gear to get out of the way bc the trucker didn't let another trucker on from the ramp, so it decided it was bigger & was going to put my new 2021 KIA into a wall. In all honesty that wouldn't have ended well & I'll leave it at that
@@canttouchthis6439 I agree 100%. In fact, Rap1d gave a perfect example of why I do not drive over the road anymore. The way I see it, truck drivers should be held to a higher standard because of the training one is suppose to go through, which is much more than a "normal" driver does. @Polymer Tools I do actually...slower than an old asain lady with a live chicken in her hand. It has resulted in me driving slower as well in my personal vehicle at home. I have a BMW and I drive 55 in LA on the 101 freeway. Yes I'm that asshole 🤣🤣🤣🤣....
Speed limit is 55 anyone going faster then that is speeding which is everyone some states you speed over one mph your getting a ticket especially truckers.
@@Tommygunz106 the speed limit isn’t a factor in the left lane, in my state it’s a law that slower traffic has to move to the right, regardless of speed.
@@funny3scene you must failed at math because when 55 is the max and everyone passing its clear who's breaking the law. I myself in my personal vehicle don't care for speed limit but I know I broke law regardless. 2nd truckers can use left lane as long there's no post sign stating otherwise.
Hey Robert you're right every time I get in my truck I call my truck a B-17 bomber trying to make it to Berlin to drop my bombs which are the loads and I called those little four-wheelers the Messerschmitt German planes trying to shoot me down sometimes it does seem like they're coming after you but I've been able to make it to the hangar Bay everyday thank God stay blessed
There's a law enforcement exemption written into every one of those laws. Police also have extensive driver training to be able to operate their vehicles to their highest limits like while operating emergency equipment and a police radio.

I was TOTALLY thinking the same thing as you and then I saw what they were doing also and I'm ok with it. I see people drive like COMPLETE MORONS all the time. One day driving down a city street barely 2 lanes, one lane going each direction and this little Pontiac Grand am flew past me on the right side on the sidewalk at about 90 MPH I'm not kidding or embellishing the story one single bit. I chased the jerk down and he pulled into a liquor store. It had a Raiders sticker the size of the back window on the car and the gangster wannabe kid about 20 years old got out of the car and started spitting on my truck. The city police would not do anything so I just left. He wasn't from my town so I wasn't really worried about him looking for me to retaliate. Even though he would have surely killed anyone that stepped out onto the sidewalk. That's just one of many stories of humans with not much of a brain that I've seen doing some incredibly ignorant things.

To learn to drive a 20 ton coach bus like mine, I won't even mention the three weeks of classroom training. There are three books you have to read, memorize, study and get tested on It takes 6 weeks before you can drive a coach bus. The training is enormous for a bus and guess what.it's even worse for a truck driver especially driving hazardous materials. A CDL driver is must be held to a much higher standard than a regular guy put putting in a car. Ok...here's what you need to know. If you see a truck or bus coming your way? Get out of his way. If you cut me off? I can't stop. I"m not going to swerve to avoid you, and take out the poor guy next to me. You will get creamed. If I put my turn signals on? I"m telling you. This is not a request. As a CDL driver since 1985 this is the best thing I've ever seen. I wish New Hampshire did this where the speed limit appears to be 90+ on every highway.
Ig. But honestly I've had more truckers not paying attention and almost killing my family in smaller vehicles. Truckers all suck. And some hot rod cars suck as well

This is not policing. Just revenue generating tricks. I would like to know the crime rate and the amount of unsolved crimes that these guys could help with instead of fishing for fines.
There are over 200k accidents in Indiana per year, I'd think that would probably require the most policing in my opinion. There's not 1 driver who hasn't at some point in their life went over the speed limit, all it takes is 1 unlucky day and someone else's life is gone, they should have cops escort you to and from your house to where you gotta go lol people can't be trusted
Cops want to enforce the law then they need to follow the same ones we do. Tint. Speeding. Lane changes without blinker. Typing a laptop while driving but we can’t check our phone lmfao.
So aggressive drivers causing thousands of fatal accidents on our roads every year is not a serious problem? These are Troopers... a big part of their job is to enforce the traffic laws and keep our roads safe. Thats what we pay them for. Good job Troopers!

Being a semi driver I learned you have to not only drive for yourself but everyone else because no one is really aware of how bad things can get with a semi
Unfortunately most truck drivers are not courteous to their fellow truck drivers. They are just as bad at cutting off other truck drivers, following too closely, and speeding. Interesting thing is I see them be more courteous to cars than other truck drivers.

Glad to see law enforcement placing a priority of identifying and enforcement of unsafe driving around trucks. I’m sure the ambulance chasing attorneys are not happy to see evidence on the record demonstrating truckers are not the cause factor of accidents by default. Yes their are unprofessional truck drivers on the road. But the vast majority are safe and courteous. Thank you professional drivers for what you do.

If they did this in my state, they would get a violation every 5 seconds. The state would have so much money they could pave the roads in gold. ( My point is everyone drives like a douche bag. )
The goal is to drive in such away that pisses off other drivers, thus baiting someone into getting frustrated enough to get the hell out of the traffic clog.
My thoughts exactly. I can see them now, doing 50 in the left. Then pulling you over when you angrily go around them and cut them off. It's called entrapment and is supposed to be unconstitutional. But pigs do what they want and do not suffer consequences cause their the 'good guys'.

I drive trucks, and what makes me mad is to see the amount of people that drive with a cell phone on their hands, and not talking but checking fb or watching videos
