The thing is, like you said, naan is a restaurant dish, which is why it is more prevalent outside of India compared to other types of bread. Because outside of India, the only way to have Indian food is in Indian restaurant, unless you're lucky enough to have an Indian friend who cooks for you. And pretty much all Indian restaurants have a tandoor and feature tandoori chicken and naan. I'm a Vietnamese and have faced the same problem when I meet foreign friends too. They only know either pho (a noodles dish) or banh mi (our common sandwich) and assume we have it every day because it's a restaurant dish that is often served outside of Vietnam. In reality, the home cooked meal is way different and simpler because making the stock for pho takes time and money and fuel; and most Vietnamese people don't own a bread oven or know how to bake bread, either. Plus it is just as time consuming.

This video makes me soo happy!!!! I cannot express enough that Indian food comes with so many varieties. Butter chicken and naan are just the 2 two things famously known. We don't eat them everyday. We're not dogs where we get excited to eat the same food every single day. But I will say we would decide to eat either rice or rotis or with the main meal on its own. From lentils, to okras, eggplants, potatoes, cauliflower, squash, lokee (idk the English name), bitter melon, green beans, and so much more. These are either eaten together or alone. I like naan, but it's not my thing everyday. And naan? There's the classic roti, paranti, aloo paranti, double-roti paranti. Many things!

Foreigners need to be explained that restaurant menu and home menu in India is almost mutually exclusive. Home cooked food is for maintaining health and not meant to be gorged and may not be tasty and restaurant food is for celebration and not health. Indians mostly eat a huge variety of vegetable dishes cooked at home and not available in any restaurant. Indians eat snacks (chat, samosa, sweets, kachori, laddoo, batura) and restaurant food (Mughlai cuisine) that normally no housewife knows how to cook. Each have their exclusive domain. Another thing is most North Indian restaurant food is Iranian or Central Asian in origin.

You can start with butter-paneer or mattar(pea)-paneer or palak(spinach)-paneer or Shahi paneer or paneer tikka or paneer bhurji or paneer lababdaar or paneer tikka masala or chilly paneer. Or simply stir fried ocra or potato or mix veg sabzi or an eggplant and veggies bharta( mashed dish) Paneer is Indian cottage cheese you can use tofu instead, but for authentic taste go for paneer. sabzi is a vegetable dish that is stir-fried with spices and served as a main course or side dish. All these can be paired with roti/chapati, rice or naan or parantha. Or you can try idli + sambhar+ chatni or dosai or rasam. Idli is kinda fluffy rice pancakes Sambhar - veggies and lentils curry Chatni - a dipping sauce usually made of coconut. Other than that samosas, bhajiye, mo:mo, golgappe/pani-puri, vada pav, dhokla, chaats can be tried, these are among the foods we usually snack on.

Naan's are an occasional thing here in India. We don't eat it everyday in fact anytime when we're visiting a restaurant that too my family avoids it as it's thicker and makes the entire food heavy to digest considering the fact that the main course ordered is heavier in cream & masala. Tandoori roti is a great option if u don't want to have plain chapati or naans. There's also another version of naan that is called kulcha which is usually stuffed like paratha.
